After seeing FF:ROTSS, Do you think Tim Story deserves to do FF3?

I guess the introduction of Frankie Raye is something that was really in Story's control, but if he does have a say in it, I'm really interested to see what he would do with her.

Tim should be back with total and complete control. It is obvious that he knows what he is doing. The scope of the action got better from the first movie and that has always been great.

I say give Tim 200 million and let him play for real.

I haven't seen the film yet but until the franchise is away from Fox nothing will change no matter who they get to direct

If he got 200 mil to work with, THAT BETTER BE FOR INHUMANS!!!

Yes. I liked the first two and two was a big improvement on one. My main complaint (Doom) was basically fixed in two. So yes, I want the mood etc to be consistent and I think he does a good job at nailing the family atmosphere.

Yeah...after the numbers it will probably post this weekend, he'll be back at the trough.

You must be joking. His work on this one, while better than the first, is at best bland and uninspiring. He's 'Ho hum' and not about to get any better.

I'd like a new director to put a new spin and keep things fresh.

Tim story could do it though, i loved ff2.

I voted yes....

Whatever happens, lets not let this get to X3 style of filmmaking...rush, rush, and more rush!

I am going to see F42, but I don't need to see it to know that he should not come back.
It's like, should Meryl Streep play Wolverine in the next X-Men movie?
No?
How do you know if you haven't even seen her take on the character?

Because, she's just not suited to the role, just as TS is not suited to the role of director for a Fantastic Four movie. *shrug*

You need someone who is KNOWN, on his own, for being an iconoclastic kind of auteur with a distinctive visual style and tone.
That's why, for all their flaws, the Spider-Man movies are SO much better than the F4 movies.
It's directly attributeable to Raimi's superiority as a director of visually-oriented, effects-driven fantasy films.

Also, after seeing his bald-faced lies about Galactus now? Hell NO he shouldn't come back. That's just....weird...like those pathological liars who will lie, even KNOWING that they don't stand to gain from it and that they WILL be caught.
It's just bizarre, like when George Lucas insisted that they never had plans to title Return of the Jedi "Revenge" of the Jedi....even though Lucasfilm had already printed up posters and merchandise.

I don't need to see the movie to know that he has, lol, NO idea what he's doing as far as guiding and okaying the design side of things.

Look, point-blank, face it...the Thing looks RIDICULOUS. That's why you'll NEVER see him for more than 1 or 2 seconds on TV commercials.
It's so embarrassing.
And, I read where he was talking about making the decision on how to portray Galactus, so he obviously had some say there....and the direction they went with is POO. :o

I have seen the movie and couldn't agree more. The bottom line is that as you said, Tim simply lacks the style, the vision and frankly the skill to direct a movie like the FF. It's clearly not his kind of movie.
the FF movies are not poorly directed,..... they are just not well directed.
The trailer for the transformers alone showed me the difference betwee an action director and a non action director.

I also agree that his bold face lies are unacceptable. It's curious how many people are giving him a pass on this.
saying "Galactus" is in the movie is simply a lie.
calling something by the same name does not make it the same.
if this was the case next time around all he has to do is have a poster of a rock band called the inhumans then tell everyone the inhumans are in the next movie.

Galactus' true from is incomprehensible to all those who witness it.

It is incomprehensible to this witness that Galactus' true form is not in this movie.

My stand as of now:

If they keep Story - ok
If they get someone else - ok

I have no strong feelings either way.

I would like to get more discussion going here (I don't like a thread of nothing but one sentence answers), so all the people wanting Story to stay, why do you? What is it about his direction you like?

I voted yes, because after seeing Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer I feel that Story has the right idea, he just needs someone to help him with the action scenes and the effects could be better.

I think he should do it again so we will see how he does with more freedom in directing.

This is FOX...freedom in directing is not a concept they are aware of, lol.

I like Tim Story, but I think there needs to be a new director, the movie was better than the first one, but what they did with Galactus was real dissapointing.

Although ROTSS was an improvement on the first, I'm so tired of this kiddy treatment FF has gotten. It is possible to make a superhero film family-friendly without it operating on a third grade level. A Fantastic Four film can be witty, thought provoking, and emotionally satisfying while still retaining an inspired sense of comedy (The Incredibles anyone:o). And I want that so much for the FF franchise and I just don't see that happening as long as Story continues to helm these installments.

Bring back Tim Story to finish the trilogy, THEN have him make Silver Surfer! :D

I think a director can make a difference. I don't have much knowledge of the innerworkings of big time film studios but I do know that:

X-men (Fox property)/Director: Bryan Singer = Awesomeness

X-men 2 (Fox property)/Director: Bryan Singer = Greatness

X-men 3 (Fox property)/Director: Brett Ratner = Suckiness :csad:

Tim Story is the ONLY guy for FF3 right now. He's created a dynamic, whether people want to believe it or not. I've become accustomed to his vision of the FF, and so far none of his movies have reached the awfulness that is SM3.

I bet if Tim Story directed Spider-Man 3, you'd probably blame HIM for the failure that it was. But if Sam Raimi directed ROTSS, you'd be calling it the best thing since sliced bread.
