After watching X1 and X2 again recently.....

I truly believe this will be my favorite one of the 3! Its going to give people a lot of what was missing from x1 and 2. singer while he made good films, dumbed them down a lot! i appreciate making them seem like they really could exist, but these are based on comics....x1 and 2 could have been more action packed and singer could have done that i believe without any campyness! but im happy to say i enjoyed the first 2 non the less and cant wait for the x3 dvd already lol

Exactly...that is why I said earlier that I do not blame Marsden because he does not want to get typecasted. But I am sure that he very well knew what would happen to his Cyclops role.

I doubt he did. X3 was still in limbo when he was offered the role, if I'm not mistaken.

For the last time NO HE DIDN'T. God Loves Man Kills, guess what Cyclops gets captured, doesn't fight Jean, doesn't have a big emotional scene where he mourns over her death, doesn't even fight a guard. So Singer gave him MORE TO DO in a story that had him do far less, and he gave him the movies big climatic final scene.

Cyclops is in the first 20 mins of X2 and the last 20 mins....yeah he got screwed.....

Your theory should be great...but Ian McKellen did Da Vinci Code which is in much more direct competition than Superman is, in fact Superman is released long after X3 makes its money, so no dice. Da Vinci Code is its competition and Ian has among the biggest roles.
Sir Ian McKellan is a lot bigger and higher paid actor than Jimmy. Studios bend over backwards to get veterans like McKellan. SR is X3's main competition for summer king. DaVinci was good but Sony knew that it could not hang with X3 on the same weekend. That is why they moved the release date.

It was still in production. Kinberg and Penn were busy writing away while Vaughn left and Ratner came in. X3 is a Juggernaut and will be made anways...people knew that. A little troubles won't stop one of Fox's biggest revenue machines from being made.

No he did not. Because God Loves Man Kills is not ABOUT CYCLOPS READ THE GRAPHIC NOVEL. He is a smaller character in the original comic than he is in the movie.

No he isn't, people did not know his name anymore than they knew James Marsden before he played Magneto he was in a bunch of good small movies and his biggest features were Last Action Hero and The Shadow...trust me he is not some big name they just had to hold onto.

Dude i`ve read it....he could have changed some stuff to help Cyclops but no...the could have at least showed him captured

You have to be kidding me. Sir Ian McKellan is on the same par as James Marsden? HAHA that made me laugh so hard.

Umm they did, and they added the scene at the end with Jean, and they added the scene fighting Jean, and they added the scene where Logan tells him Jean chose him...none of those are in God Loves Man Kills.

Dude no one heard of Ian McKellen until he played Magneto, sorry I hate to break it to you he is not some great big movie star.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005212/ Just look at his movie list, its almost all TV movies.

Neither of which were in God Loves Man Kills, congrats you answered your own question. In God Loves Man Kills we see him shoved in a car and then don't see him again until the last page.

OMG!

I really hate all this Singer bashing.

I know we're all entitled to our own opinions, but sometimes I really feel that the people who think that Singer didn't accuratley portray these characters, or didn't do them justice, or "screwed them", don't know anything about the X-Men outside of the animated series.

AND THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO GREW UP ON THE ANIMATED SERIES AND DIDN'T START SERIOUSLY COLLECTING X-MEN COMICS UNTIL AFTER THE 1ST MOVIE CAME OUT!!!

Singer did not "screw" Cyclops.

In X-Men, Cyclops is portrayed, very promenantly, as the leader. He's portrayed as Xavier's non-biological son. And except for Wolverine, who is OBVIOUSLY going to be the main focus (as he is an outsider, and through his eyes, we are introduced to their world, and um... I dunno, only the MOST RECOGNIZABLE AND KNOWN X-MEN CHARACTER IN THE FREAKING UNIVERSE!), and Rogue who plays a major part in the story due to Magneto's plot, Cyclops probably has the most prominent role amongst the X-Men.

Tell me:

-Who is sent on assignment to find Wolverine and bring him back?
-Who is sent on assignment to find Rogue after she leaves the mansion?
-Who has the one on one talks with Professor Xavier, talking about Wolverine, and potential plans that Magneto might have for him?
-Who is the one discussing the state of the team with Xavier ("He's not going with us? I'm sorry, he'll endanger the mission!")?
-Who is the one who discovers what Magneto's plan for Rogue is?
-Who is the one who lays out the plan to the rest of the team?
-Who is the one that flies them in the Blackbird to Liberty Island?
-Who is the one who leads them, and finds out where Magneto's machine is hidden?
-Who is the one who takes out Magneto, allowing Wolverine to destroy the machine?

If you answered "Cyclops" to any of these, Bryan Singer just might have done Cyclops justice.

Now let's look at X2:

-Who is the one who's dropping ideas on who's behind the Presidential assassination attempt (even if he was wrong about it, he was the only one giving out any ideas)
-Who is the one that escorted Xavier to Magneto's prison?
-Who was the one, that after being captured, mind controlled, and forced to fight his own team, when he finally re-joined the team, who was the one who IMMEDIATLEY TOOK OVER, barking out orders, and trying to get to the bottom of the situation ("Who is this guy?!" referring to Nightcrawler)?
-Who is the one who takes the main pilot's position on the Blackbird when they are trying to leave Alkali Lake?
-Who was the one barking out orders to the team to get the jet working so they could get out of there safely?
-Who was the one trying to rush out of the jet to get to Jean?
-Who was the one to tried to talk Jean out of doing what she was doing?
-Who was the one who reacted the most to Jean's death (hint: it wasn't Wolverine)

If you answered "Cyclops" to any of these, Bryan Singer just might have done Cyclops justice.

And oh yea, regarding "God Loves, Man Kills", who was the character who did more in the movie adaptation of "God Loves, Man Kills" than his character did in the comic books?

If you answered "Cyclops" to any of these, Bryan Singer just might have done Cyclops justice.

No, the ones shafting Cyclops are Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn. That's it. Not Marsden. Not Singer. Not Jackman. Not Berry.

Kinberg, and Penn. And Vaughn might have had a hand in it as well.

That's just for the character of Cyclops. Don't get me started on Rogue...

I never questioned his filmography before X-Men...you threw that in to try and salvage your argument. Sir Ian McKellan is easily a better actor and is deffinitely paid a lot more than Jimmy Marsden. Look at McKellan's and Marsden's filmography on imdb and sit there and tell me McKellan gets the same amount and quality of roles that Marsden does.

No offense to Cyclops, but Lady Deathstrike is a weapon built for one purpose; killing.

It's obvious that Lady Deathstrike would serve Cyclops' ass to him on a silver platter in hand to hand combat.

Penn and Kinberg had to write Cyclops a small role because Jimmy was busy with Superman Returns....Thats why they killed him off because then at least his scenes in X3 would be emotional...

Marsden's availability opened up well in advance for them to make changes...

In fact, Marsden's availability opened up as soon as the shooting for X-Men 3 got pushed back until August.

They had enough time to find a way to put him into the 3rd act.

They chose not to.

The blame rests squarely on them.

I can't believe we're comparing Marsden and McKellen.

McKellen is a VERY accomplished actor... maybe not in cinema, but he is an amazing Shakespearian actor.

He's a much bigger actor than Marsden will probably ever be.

McKellen was made well before X-Men...

Ian McKellen got Gandalf and Magneto (and now he is in the Da Vinci Code, although it got panned) thats pretty much it. Marsden has Cyclops and no one else, but then I never said Marsden was a big star either. I just said a plain fact, Ian McKellen was about as big a star as Marsden until they made X-Men, and sorry that is a fact. If they'd never cast him as Magneto, he'd still be playing TV movies.

It is not the writer's...they are huge X fans...it is studio politics. Fox forced them to kill him off...I can almost guarantee that.

Well the script was already written by then so it would have been Ratner`s choice to change the script
