After watching X1 and X2 again recently.....

Yeah Marsden would still be in crappy TV movies too if not for X-Men, du'h...but so would Ian, and Jackman wouldn't have a career (or much of one) either, and neither would Shawn Ashmore, or Aaron Stafford (who may still not) or most of that cast for that matter. But the point still stands, those actors were unknowns before X-Men, X-Men made them who they are today.
I never said that they were known before X-Men so please quit going on tangents...I do agree with you on that though but it was not part of your original argument. Although I think Ian had Gandolf locked before he finished X1.

And you think the writers are just going to think "Hmm, limited screentime, hey, I know! Let's make the fans hate us!".

Come on now...

I think Shadow was talking about them being on the same level of celebrity before X-Men came out.

Today, it's a different story.
He was...but that is not what we were originally arguing about...go back and look.

My original argument

people did not know his name anymore than they knew James Marsden before he played Magneto he was in a bunch of good small movies and his biggest features were Last Action Hero and The Shadow

And then you went off on some talent tagent.

Your minsing hairs to make an invalid point. You're point still makes no sense since Marsden is still in X3. And Superman is in no way its competition since they are not released at the same time. Da Vinci code actually stands to take money AWAY from X3, and it most likely will. Point being they did not have to bend over backwards to get Marsden, but they did and catered to his shooting schedule.

It was Kinberg himself who said they came up with this "great way" to work around Marsden's limited availability.

It was scheduling more or less, and probably Rothman wraith, but not over budgetary concerns. The writers obviously did not care about the character.

I never said they bent over backwards for Marsden. DaVinci was slammed by critics and has been said multiple times that X3 will top it. DaVinci has been said to not be a film for fans to watch 2 or 3 times while still in theatres...X3 however is one of those films that fans will go watch multiple times. Why do you think there will not be any SR returns trailers attached to X3??? SR is X3's main competition for summer reign. Also, DaVinci is not in the same category as X3. X3 and SR will be hashly judged between one another in the months to come. Critics will weigh their opinions on which was the better comic action movie of the summer.

And by the time critics are judging SR, X3 will have made all its money and will be laughing all the way to the bank so it really doesn't matter what they think. Thats like saying Batman Begins 2 is its main competition.

As for trailers. Trailers are only for that production companies other films.

Yea...your right. Once the summer is over and all SR's and X3's revenues are in...they will start comparing it to Batman Begins2 that will be released in 2008. Sure...talk about "minsing hairs".

The point is X3 doesn't care about SR anymore than it cares about BB2, or a movie that comes out in August 2006, or July 2006. All Fox and X3 care about is making money and SR threatens that in no way. Da Vinci Code may get panned by critics, but so is X3 from the looks of it and Da Vinci Code still made 70 mil. That means it stands to make another 20 mil next weekend at least. X3 doesn't want that, that is direct competition. And I know a TON of college kids who want to see DVC... a TON. X3 doesn't have the buzz in terms of news and controversy DVC has right now. I think X3 will make a good bit, but any FOX exec right now is preparing on how to deal with DVC and couldn't give a sh** about SR.

SR comes out next month...X3 will still be in theatres then. X3 and SR are the only comic book big action flicks to come out this summer. They will be directly compared and judged by all come summer's end. X3 will smash DaVinci's box office record easily. Fox has put a lot more money in marketing for X3 than DVC has received. Why do you think DVC's release date was changed? The execs knew DVC would be slammed by X3 in box office turnout.

Superman comes out next month, when X-Men will be getting towards the end of it's run, likely, and losing showings per day anyways.

DaVinci is near its end run. X3 will be the big block to stop it. I think X3 will make close to 100 million and DVC will get 15-25million.

Or more likely they did not want to split any profits with X3 no matter how well it did. I doubt X3 will smash DVC, 70 mil is a lot to make especially considering projections for DVC were around 100 mil. For the last time though THEY DON'T CARE WHAT SOME ABSTRACT "COMPARISON" at the end of the summer is. They care about money and that is it. X3 will make the bulk of its money in those 4 weeks and people will be done with it by then. There is a reason X3 made its release date now instead of a month from now or two weeks from now....and I'll give you a hint: It's because they don't want to compete with Superman. X3 couldn't give a horse's ass what fanboys arguments are about Superman and X3 are at the end of the summer. They will still seel DVDs at a different time and make tons of money. No one but comic geeks sit here and compare Superman to Wolverine, sorry doesn't happen. They are much more likely, and WILL be, comparing one sea faring pirate to Superman and not Marvel's mutants.

Boxoffice mojo, hasn't released their weekend predictions yet, but I assume that DVC will come in second. Other than Al Gore's doom and gloom movie (which is a limited release), there's nothing else opening against X3.

My guess is X3, will make 100 mil over the weekend, considering the holiday. DVC will come in second but will probably drop to 30 mil.

We'll see what Mojo predicts.

It JUST CAME OUT!
I know...but X3 will take over its spot as top box office dog. DVC's turnout will continue to keep declining after this weekend. I would not of put DVC near X3 at all...especially not a week before.

Pirates of the Carribean will hand SR's @ss to it on a silver platter. Pirate's will be the #1 movie of the summer and SR will be just like DVC. It will do great the first weekend but then get trumped by a bigger, better movie the following weekend. X3 will make more money. You can have one major movie each month, yet they will all be critiqued and compared. And yes, Fox cares about what critics have to say about their movies...otherwise they wouldn't have press screenings.

It's hard to say, what will own what, when the movies aren't even out yet. I too hope POTC2, lives up to the standard of the first movie. I hope SR is good, although I was real dissapointed by the trailer. I personally wish they had done a reboot of the series ala Batman Begins.

A lot of critics agree that POTC2 will be the main summer movie. The first one made tons of money and the second looks like it is living up to the hype. My summer projections:
1. Pirates 2
2. X3
3.SR
4.DaVinci Code

I can see SR doing better than X3.
I think it will be close but I think X3 will top SR. X3 is more recently established and SR may piss off a lot of fans as well...with all the retooling that they are doing. X3 also had a huge overhaul with promotions, images, and clips than SR has.
