Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 4x02 - "Meet the New Boss" - Discussion Thread

Anyone else get a little sad when they revealed the new director to be Inhuman and said "Steve Rogers went AWOL?"

Realistically, you'd think someone like Rhodey would lead SHIELD, or even Maria Hill. But I know the show can't afford them.

I'm not sure how I feel about those Ghost things, but I loved Reyes in this episode, even if Daisy was still annoying. I'm glad Fitz - who in the past has comforted her called her out on her BS.

A good episode.
Robbie Reyes is awesome.
His origin or backstory seems connected to these Ghost or the guy who did this to them with the book.

Didn't expect the Director to be Inhuman. :woot:

What if Jeffrey isn't really an inhuman so much as being 'not human'? They have dropped tons of references to LMDs, we have a 2nd gen LMD in the form of Aida. We all saw in CA:TFA what appeared to be a LMD at the 1st Stark Expo.
get

You'll note the square build of the 1st synthetic human and how it matches up nicely with Jeffrey's build. Jeffrey's existence could be something classified higher than Level 10, and as such nobody else knows. They dropped lots of SHIELD origin references and most notably Peggy Carter and her founding SHIELD and building the base. I foresee some episodes going back to that time in order to also wrap up the Agent Carter story that got left incomplete. With that, we could get a glimpse of Jeffrey back in the 1950s and looking the exact same. When May punched Jeffrey, it was like hitting solid rock. He didn't move, he didn't feel any pain, he didn't even react. More of a robotic reaction than an inhuman one. I can't see a human or inhuman taking a punch and not reacting at all to it.

The way you phrased this combined with Robbie saying they might be connected by him made me think Eli was the one who did that years ago. He was a satanist right? Being involved with something like the Darkhold would seem like his thing.

It works for Luke Cage

Man, that would lend an opportunity for some great character development.

Say he tries to continue to serve from behind a desk with SHIELD, but eventually gets frustrated by the combination of still doing physical rehab and his lack of hands-on control? Gets the itch to get back in the field? Pilots the War Machine drones remotely from the SHIELD base? Sigh...

Two weeks from tonight?? They're taking a week off already??
Well with no Agent Carter to help spread out a winter break, I'm betting we see more breaks spread out throughout the season now

The director could definitely be an android, based not only on not flinching at all from the blows but also the robotic way he started speaking while dealing with May.

But this show loves its inhumans. He's probably just an inhuman.

What did they say the Guy's name was, or did they just show him?

Mack actually got his shotgun axe! I haven't watched all of season 3, so that was a nice surprise for me. :D

we need specs or a blueprint of that shotgunaxe

Hopefully I'll see this in about 45 minutes :D

Great episode.
Some people were saying after last week, that we wouldn't see GR fully flamed-on again until mid season break... Glad this 2nd episode proved them wrong.

I was pleasantly surprised by the mention of the Darkhold. Not only are they quickly and openly embracing the supernatural, but they're going full-out with one of the most important supernatural artifacts in the Marvel Universe.
I expect good things for this season.

That would be soooo great. Why can't we have nice things? lol

OMGR Reyes is switched on!
I've only seen this clip so far but why does Robbie take that pic in the end?

Because the crazy **** that is happening is apparently connected to him. But we don't find out much more.

To find the rest of the ghostly gang. He can't find them unless he knows what they look like.

Jeff, no last name yet.
A lot of speculation that he is Jeffrey Mace AKA The Patriot, no confirmation.

In case anyone is wondering, I watched last night with my Dish closed-captioning on (sometimes I don't catch what they say, so it makes it easier), and before I even saw his face (and well before I knew his first name was Jeff), when it was May and Coulson waiting outside his office, and the Director was talking, the CC gave his name as "MACE: <Whatever he said here>."

They are Ghosts. I don't think he needs to know what their faces look like, in order to determine his target.

Maybe the Rider really is Eli Morrow, and these ghosts are connected to him.

Did anyone else get the feeling that Coulson was kinda expecting the new Director to be just a pretty public face of S.H.I.E.L.D. while he would actually pull the strings? But now he's got the real boss and must obey his orders and respect the chain of command.

It seems like it's going to be a slow burn for answers this season, so buckle up.

Again, another reason I wish TV seasons for shows like this were shorter. It means less filler and we can get to the point faster.

So I'm guessing they actually named the new director by name ( Jeffery )

I missed it and will have to watch it again , but as I was watching it , I thought , wow , this guy would sure make a great Norman Osborn , looks like him , acts like him , enhanced like him

Norman Osborn ,the new director of SHIELD would have been awesome
