Episode 3 hasn't even aired yet

We can' start making these threads earlier earlier just to be the first to make them like an arms race. That's going to make the mods get involved. We need a set time for when to make the new threads. (and a naming convention for the title for searching purposes).

It's not an arms race. The images came online so I figured it was okay to make a thread. Episode 3 airs tonight, so 4 is a week out. ABC will release a promo in a couple of days and clips a few days after that, as they did with last week.

As for the name, the show's title is long enough that if we keep spelling out "Season X Episode #" eventually an episode will come along that won't fit in the thread title line. Standard shorthand will work better in the long run.

a week before the episode airs (tuesdays) is alright with me, that's enough time to speculate a little but not too long before the episode airs. and personally I just like the spelled out version more

Yeah a week out is fine, just making it before the episode ahead of it airs is dubious. And yeah I prefer the long form as well.

I think new episode thread should be made after the current week's episode has finished airing on the East Coast.

That being said, I take it this is the episode where those guys in the red masks show up?

Looks like we get brainwashing/ manipulation of some sort too

I noticed that too. I wonder if we'll get some sort of version of Controller or Corrupter or some character like that.

- Spy
- controlled

Thief- perhaps more than that, a spy- that was trained and brainwashed by the same organization ?

Maybe we'll get more Black Widow backstory

Those guys in red masks. I don't even... My brain doesn't know what to do with that information. Honestly, after seeing it on TV I think I tried to push it out, thinking it was a momentary advertisement for some other show where they weren't just some random, out of place element but made perfect sense. It's just sort of a moment of, "How... Huh."

When I first saw them on the TV they reminded me pretty strongly of how Anonymous would wear those Guy Fawkes masks during protests, and seeing as Rising Tide has been described as hacktavist and their logo is a similar red color... But that's doubtful as they look like a very serious group in the trailer (all perfectly dressed and very professional/serious in their mannerisms, not anything like what we've seen from Skye). Plus I don't they would have the brainwashed woman go after a bunch of Rising Tide protestors. It doesn't make sense, plot wise, to do something like that so early in the seasons when we're still trying to really establish what Rising Tide is and where it lies on the big line of "Good" and "Evil".

Looks like a Coulson heavy episode, though, which should prove interesting! Let's face it, the guy is the main draw of the series and the closest it comes to a single headlining character but so far the episodes themselves haven't really focused on him.

Makes sense that AOS would cast this unknown black actress (Pascale Armand) as a character made exclusively for the show, because I think if they ever wanted Monica Rambeau or Misty Knight, they'll cast someone more well known with the intent of moving them into the movies.

oh look, another black person doing bad things while being controlled or under the influence.

Oh yeah, the red masks are for sure Rising Tide...but I think it's just the tip of the iceberg...Rising Tide is probably Hydra.

For some reason, Every time I see the guys in the Red Masks ,
I think of The Observers from Fringe.

The rising tide are just a bunch of hackers, now they may work for Hydra, but i don't think they are hydra.

I tend to agree.
The Rising Tide is The Rising Tide, for better or worse .

Maybe; but if they're just an "Anonymous" type group of hacktivists, would SHIELD even bother with them? Coulson tends to take them very seriously, and I don't think he would if he had intel that they were just a bunch of geeks operating out of their mom's basements in Santa Barbara or something.

Well i do think they're connected with Hydra (or the organizations behind all this), but i think Rising Tide takes orders from them, not that they're HYDRA itself, i think they're just one of the seed planted by this larger organizations, just like the people we saw in the last episode.

I don't think they're HYDRA. It's possible that HYDRA is manipulating them behind the scenes in some manner, but I'm inclined to think they're a separate group that was formed with the honest intention of free information/government transparency on "super-powered" subjects. This kind of anarchist hacker group typically don't have set management or real leadership structure. That would put Rising Tide in the position of being a useful tool for HYRDA while still allowing the group to maintain a separate identity with their own goals and motivations.

Regardless, though, Coulson has reason to take them seriously. Remember in the pilot episode how Agent Ward's mission is hijacked part way through by the ninja gang? We're told that the group was supposedly tipped off by Rising Tide and that this was only the last in a long line of missions where the Rising Tide was able to gather information at the rate of or quicker than SHIELD. That's part of why Agent Ward is so antagonistic to Skye in the beginning: she's part of the organization that's foiled his last, like, six operations.

People will find anything to complain about. I'm just happy that there have been so many black actors in this series so far. J. August Richards, Ron Glass, Samuel L. Jackson, Pascale Armand and now Ruth Negga.
