Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD TV series for ABC - General Discussion - LEVEL 11 - Part 10

Yes, its a part of the settlement package TV writers got two strikes ago. They have part ownership from that live action character's debut when they go to the movies or cross over to another TV show.
Would that be the same with Matt Murdock from the Netflix show?

Yes, there is a reason the initial plan was to have a new show limited to Daredevil and Kingpin only. Even Vanessa was recast. The tease of the Netflix show's two most popular character/actor match ups and that was the draw for more Daredevil as opposed to other comic characters to make new shows about. They were actually rebooting from a near MCU universe.

During the recent strike and Disney+ loss of fans they bit the financial bullet and made a Frankenstein show by adding 3 more Netflix characters/actor sets and undoing the recasting Vanessa and declared Netflix shows canon to the MCU. And now with better reviews than other Disney+ shows have been getting they are bringing in more characters with the same Netflix Defender's saga actors reprising their roles. All in hope that with better buzz the viewer numbers rebound to the past higher levels.

As I understand it, Ayelet Zurer was unavailable originally. Not saying they would have gone out of their way to hire her, but it doesn't establish that it's a royalty issue.

I don't think paying Joss Whedon "residual fees" is a concern for them. These characters are still technically under Disney and iirc, Aos is streaming in D+ exclusively. If they like the characters enough, they would use them regardless who produced the show. I don't even associate that show to Joss Whedon unlike the first 2 Avengers movies.
There is a second personal relationship factor that may be in play. While I always consider Inhumans as technically a form of a mutation it isn't as of now for Marvel. The MCU has gone so far making Ms. Marvel a mutant. And introduce multiverse mutants.

I can say it is easy to say Inhumans are mutants but Inhumans means we bring back in Ike Perlmutter's corporate baby.

Black Bolt who is an Inhuman debuted in the MCU at the same time as the Professor. So I don't think it really matters now. They have both in the movies now.

everyone wants quake, but i feel like The Calvalry would've been the easiest/best to bring bring. a non-powered being like hawkeye who is legendary in the agency. even mentions not being made is surprising.

But she's now a teacher. You would need to write a scene for her to talk since her martial arts can't be used to overshine Yelena or Shang Chi's. Especially after seeing how Michelle Yeoh was received in Star Trek, The Cavalry had benefited from the I can't believe she was 50 something but now Ming-Na Wen is 60 something off of the late AoS leg injury.

Throwing Quake with just another power demonstration into a big battle cameo that most of the other "chairs" are probably going to be relegated to would be the easiest cameo.

i'd be okay with her as teacher/trainer at this point, or even a younger alternate universe version (i guess :/) since Maria Hill got the shaft.

i just always wondered early on in AoS when it mirrored the movies at the time, why she was such an infamous member of SHIELD but none of her missions/accolades were ever mentioned. would've been a nice nod.
however in later years the show seemed to heavily deviate and do its own thing, maybe it's on universe? i don't think i ever finished the show now that i think of it, so i don't know how it wrapped up, what universe it is in etc

Do you mean The Cavalry wasn't mentioned in the movies? The show gave us her origin story because it related to the Inhumans.

Basically she was Coulson's bodyguard and a tactical team was called in to support a recon mission by Coulson, they were the cavalry who would be called in to help if needed. But they encountered a child Inhuman who massacred that team and May went in alone killed the 084 and it was rescued agents who gave her the name The Cavalry from that last mission.

However she hated the name because the Inhuman was also a child. May suffered PTSD from killing a child which ended her marriage and saw her transfer into light office duty roles until Director Fury recruited her to watch over the resurrected Coulson.

yes. i remember her origin story, and how it scarred her. but she was a well respected member of shield before and after that incident. we have only really gotten Fury, Hill and Coulson in the movies/shows.

i think i was hoping to see more of that aspect and side during secret invasion

If there was any place to mention May, or S.H.I.E.L.D. in general it was Avengers: Age of Ultron. By Secret Invasion Fiege had not yet decided to bring back the old because of the ongoing failures of the recent. Besides the Fury/Hill team the only ex S.H.I.E.L.D. still around that I can remember are the Barton's, Sharon Carter and Jimmy Woo.

And narratively May would be secondary, just like Ward was on the show while the character was still alive to the legend of Romanoff.

They ended up doing their own thing after Season 4, however in season 5, they made Talbot gain super powers and have him claim that he can aid the Avengers against Thanos (mentioning both directly). When Talbot was killed off for good, they completely deviated from the current universe, although in season seven they added to their team an alternate version of Daniel Sousa from Agent Carter.

If there is any mention of Coulson in the current MCU, it will most likely be in past tense although there could be something to the effect of "I heard a rumor that he was resurrected and had his own team, but I couldn't find anything concrete on it"

The concept of life model decoys was dropped in the very first MCU project I wouldn't mind one showing up in a movie. The second option being a Damage Control or S.W.O.R.D agent mentioning attending Coulson Academy
