Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD TV series for ABC - General Discussion - Part 2

Here in NYC the Post's Dan Greenfield was not kind in his 2 star review.

That being said, he has a part where he says SHIELD "stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, the cult fave everyman who appears in the MARVEL films as an aide de camp to Nick Fury. He (allegedly) was killed in THE AVENGERS, though it's revealed at the end of the film that his death (perhaps) was faked."

Sorry Dan, but where in any of the runtime of AVENGERS are you getting this from? No where, not for a second is it intimated that Phil is alive in the movie. NO WHERE. You kind of almost have to be dismissive of this review after seeing such a blatant mistake. I mean, is he mistaking the Cap Cards thing as an aside that intimates Phil lived? Either way I am watching when it comes on. To show how out of the loop I am I did not even know Joss was directing this thing.

The NYTIMES was also pretty lukewarm in it's review by Mike Hale. There was a tone of disappointment that it was not "bigger", I guess is what the word I'm looking for.

The review says the pilot is "fast-moving and at least moderately entertaining" but the characters come across as 2D, and not in a good way.

As always, puddings and tastings people...

It's the freaking pilot episode, of course they characters aren't fully fleshed out. >.>

I know. If the early episodes of any show don't come across as PERFECT critics are all "off with their heads." Some of the GREATEST shows of all time needed years sometimes to find their legs and get into a groove. SEINFELD, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, THE SIMPSONS... Well, the list can go on and on, but these shows actually needed some time to percolate a little.

Am I the only one rolling my eyes when they call it "Marvel's The Avengers" as if the "Marvel's" is part of the title? Yes, we get it, Marvel. We get it. Just call it The ****ing Avengers.

Ain't no one got time for that. :o

The title "The Avengers" was used previously in 1998, when the somewhat popular 1960's British television series, was made into a movie, and Marvel wanted to do what it could to separate their movie from that title. I understand where you are coming from, and to Marvel fan's it's probably like you don't think we know that you have to spell it out, but I am sure there are some people that could be confused with the title. Also, with like "Marvel's Agents of Shield", I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, who is not a comic book fan, but a fan of Comic Book Movies, and they had no idea there was a title coming out on TV that was going to connect with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so having the word "Marvel's" in the title does help people to draw that connection. Just my thoughts on the subject though.

Really looking forward to this tonight.

Looking forward to this.

Also posted this in the Music thread - BTS of the recording sessions for the pilot and I really like McCreary's theme!

I'm a tad annoyed, when I was figuring out our family's fall viewing schedule a couple months ago, I thought I had everything figured out (seriously, I made a color coded spreadsheet and everything *lol*), never did we have more than 2 shows (that we watch/are interested in) airing at the same time (our DVR can only record 2 shows at a time).

Low and behold, last night as I was looking at the guide schedule for tonight, a wrench is thrown in: The Voice's 2 hour Blind Audition episodes (I had figured only for their 1 hour results show once the competition actually gets underway because that's what sites announcing the fall schedule had listed). So we've got SHIELD, The Voice, and NCIS all on at the same time tonight. I've successfully convinced my fam that, as much as we love NCIS, but with really wanting to show support for SHIELD that it looks like we'll leave NCIS off the DVR recording schedule for the next two weeks (when The Voice will start it's 1 hour Tuesday schedule on the 8th) and just hope that NCIS pops up On Demand or on the CBS website within a few days

The joys of first world problems  *lol*

I think you should leave off Agents of SHIELD from your DVR fall schedule. Family first! :oldrazz:

Ratings will be interesting to say the least.

I am sure the ratings for the pilot episode tonight will be extremely high people that are fans of the Avengers movie (which is full of mainstream fans) will defintely be tuning in tonight. But it will be interesting to see if the show will last past season 1 which I hope it does.

Thanks for posting this!

I love the theme McCreary has written for the show. It has that epic, thrilling sound a show like Agents of SHIELD needs.

I hope it's able to hold it's own against NCIS. Not beat it, but hold it's own

The Sleepy Hollow premiere drew 10 million viewers with much less buzz. AOS will undoubtedly do very well.

Clark Gregg was on Live with Michael and Kelly this morning and they showed a clip of tonight's show with Maria Hill and Agent Ward.

Black Widow is referenced by her last name "Romanov."

Yea the show should be fine. But I am interested to see how the show will tie into future Marvel movies. Will the agents on the show have cameo's in Avengers movies or other solo movies? Sam Jackson has said he would be willing to make guest appearances as Nick Fury. It would cost wayy to much to bring any of the Avengers in on the show even as quick cameo. But it would make sense for Black Widow and Hawkeye, and Maria Hill to make brief appearances on special occasions. It would also be cool to introduce people like Luke Cage on the show.

The issue there is that Stark, Cap, Widow, Barton, Thor and Banner all still believe that Coulson is dead. I don't think you'll see any of the Avengers, but they will be referenced.

The only time I think that they will introduce new heroes that will be a part of the MCU is if they cast fairly known names in recurring roles. Otherwise, it'll probably be much like J. August Richards or Ruth Negga.

Yea, that's true plus it would be to expensive to have the avengers cast on the show but it's a possibility for small cameo's. Black Widow is referenced in the pilot episode though.

Just saw a commercial on ESPN saying there would be an "exclusive look" at Thor 2 during AOS tonight. Man, the cross promotion machine for this is effing crazy. They have all of Disney's channels at their disposal, then they can pimp it with promises of new content for their movies. It's like Marvel happy hour.

So, does everyone think that this is a quick glimpse of Graviton at the 1 Minute 9 Second mark? It kind of looks inception like from the little I can see. Hoping it will be really cool. link below for reference.

It looked to me like a hole was blasted through the Bus's hull and the cabin depressurized, sending everyone inside flying. But it's impossible to tell for sure. Maybe Graviton blew a hole in it. :word:

I think it's going to go extremely well...it will automatically draw in the superhero fans and the non-fans alike. I don't know anyone who doesn't like Avengers...even people who don't read comics love it from what I can tell.
