Again, what I'm saying is that she was classified as an 084 before they knew it was a person. Coulson even says when he explains what an 084 is that it's basically a placeholder classification for when SHIELD has no idea what the thing is, they just know it's weird and unnatural.

Exactly, they were sent in to locate and secure an 0-8-4 and turns out the 0-8-4 is a baby. I felt that was pretty clearly what they were getting at but figured I might have missed something along the way.

So Lumley was certainly still talking and thinking of her as being an 0-8-4, he just doesn't know why she is one.

Hammer's men who freed Vanko from the jail were credited as a 10 rings soldier, Hammer also wore a ring similar to both Raza and Stane

Not really... AIM is suggested to be the force working with Loki in avengers.. AIM is bigger than just Killian. Hell, SHIELD just referenced them and compared them to HYDRA

You conveniently left off Coulson's reaction to Lumley's report, in the very next line:

Coulson: Wait, the baby? The girl was the 0-8-4?!
Lumley: If she had powers or something we never witnessed it.

Coulson shows great surprise that a baby would be classified as an 084. Probably because it indicates that SHIELD was reporting her as an "it," not a...."her."

And Lumley's comment immediately afterward indicates his puzzlement that the baby would be classified as an 084 anyway, when he saw no indication of any powers or anything unusual there at all that would require SHIELD to investigate and a full-scale war to break out literally over the baby's head, resulting in the death of hundreds of people.

So, in summation, you've got:
*a baby who was classified as an "object" for some unknown reason
*a baby who was classified as an 084, without ever manifesting anything resembling superpowers that would require SHIELD to investigate
*an entire village who willingly sacrificed their own lives to protect this baby
*a SHIELD team who got wiped out and went down giving *their* lives to save this baby
*some unknown army/force that would stop at nothing to get this baby --- but it's not clear whether they wanted her dead or alive
*a baby who was secretly protected for 24 years by disguising her identity (even from herself) and shuffling her through foster care, but with certain SHIELD agents still watching over her all along (I suspect May was one of them)
*that same baby re-emerging 24 years later as a hacktivist who was recruited into a high-echelon, top-secret splinter cell of SHIELD by Agent Coulson himself.

That's the only possible answer.

While its clear Lumley and his team didn't know what the cause of that classification was, it's possible that the senior agent who called in the case did see something manifested. Unfortunately, if he did, he didn't get a chance to tell anyone what it was.

i wonder when the terminology 0-8-4 was first used.. i thought the first time would be thors hammer, now it seems that agent lumley heard it being used 20 years before that...
maybe there is some significance to this 084 designation...

I kinda like that they're writing and filming as they go. Makes changes a lot easier when they're needed, like how Ward is a lot better now than he was. I can't think of much I'd like done differently than they've been doing, the last 5-6 episodes have been pretty much perfect to me.

it's not as easy as it sounds, they're still on a schedule and changes aren't made instantly. It's like one episode filmed & completed every five weeks so that does not give a lot of lead time for making adjustments.

I don't know where they are or where they should be at this point but I would imagine the window for implementing script changes is over, or nearly so.

That's usually the case with most shows. It's incredibly rare for a television show to write it's scripts more than a few weeks in advance. They pretty much all write as they go.

Shield has been around TECHNICALLY since the 40's as SSR, your guess is as good as mine as to the initial 084 that started it all. lol
If we get the Agent Carter show, we just might find that out.

Excuse me? I didn't conveniently leave that out, Coulson's line just clarified that as far as Lumley was concerned the 084 was in fact the baby. He calls her that in the dialogue. He doesnt say, 'it wasn't an 084, it was just a baby girl'. He is still calling her that because although he never saw anything special, he knows agents involved after her retrieval were being killed off left & right, so he'd had good reason to think there was more to her than just being a normal baby girl. He even warns them about staying away from her.

So I stand by by what I said: For Lumley the baby was and still is the 084, he just doesn't have any idea as to why.

Whether she is really was/is an 084 or not we simply don't know yet.
