Alan Wake.

Haha, no s**t. The game started out as an open world title but they scrapped that because it wasn't conducive to the nature of the title. Because the title is linear doesn't mean anything. The game doesn't have to be open world to be good.

Im still pretty sure you just don't know what you are talking about.

I don't think anyone here does. They never said it was linear either. They indicated there would be a certain amount of freedom of the sort you wouldn't find in a linear game and they already had the foundation laid for it. Obvious it will move you along through the episodes, but exploration is still possible and allowed as proved by arrival to the island where their cabin is and being able to explore the island on your own.

I will agree that stating Alan Wake will be the same as Lost: Via Domus is rather silly and would be quite sad if the result of years of meticulous development resulted in a clone of Via Domus.

Well, its linear in the sense that its not a GTA styled, open world title, thats what i meant. Remedy scaled back the size of the game from their original design.

And yea, if it turns out like Lost: Via Domus, well that would just be the end of Remedy.

First 12 minutes
I downloaded it and watched parts of the gameplay while skipping the intro and other parts where Wake would talk (because of spoilers) and it looks awesome! I can't wait!

Wow this game is messed up. It actually is kind of scary!

I hope this sells well. Remedy has been slavering away at this for five years! It would be a shame if it flopped.

I just finished watching the first two episodes of Bright Falls and they are so creepy and well made the cast is great and it sets the mood for the game. I've never been so creeped out by people singing happy birthday LoL. I can't wait for the next one.

I think we'll have too wait for the game too find out that:cwink:. I think this prequel is just showing us that this town was strange long before Alan got there.

I don't think anyone posted this yet

Apparently EA's Project Ten Dollar has had an influence on other publishers, as Microsoft announced that new purchases of Alan Wake will come with a "token code card" allowing for the free download of the first game add-on (said to be coming "later this year"). The Bright Falls Bonus Pack was also detailed, with participating retailers divvying out Avatar gear (the 'I Am Awake' t-shirt) and a Bright Falls Xbox Live theme to those of you who pre-order (the Avatar shirt and Dashboard theme also come with the Limited Collector's Edition).

And yeah, in fairness, Alan Wake isn't the first MGS-published title to get an incentivized new purchase plan (Gears of War 2 says hello), but it's certainly been some time since we last saw Microsoft employ the business model. No price has been set or release date given for the first bit of content, but we'll assuredly find out soon enough, as Alan Wake is set to arrive at retail in just a few more weeks on May 18.

Hah, yea thats what i meant.

eurogamer sucks.

I'll read their review once more trusted ones are out.

I thought Eurogamer was generally very highly regarded?

IGN gave it a 9 out of 10
Gametrailers gave it a 8.6 out of 10

Eh iv always felt they were trash, even more so after that whole ridiculous Resident Evil 5 is racist garbage. I don't think iv ever agreed with any of their reviews.

Kotaku's review; they more or less gush all over the game. I did find the one major negative they found pretty interesting. They say, that despite the game's story focusing on them, you really never get a strong feel for Alan or his wife, and you learn very little about them

Also seems like several of the reviews are mentioning that the game is shorter than average. The IGN and/or the GT trailer mentioned you can get through the trailer in 6-8 hours time. Thankfully, that first DLC episode will now come packaged with new copies to extend some time

Eurogamer and Edge are notorious for giving low scores on games that are generally given high scores by others. They are tough with their reviews and many feel they are overly critical just to get hits/magazine sells and generate buzz, some feel they tell it like it really is. I think they are just overly critical and like Pat, I very rarely agree with what they say.

A lot of the reviews keep saying the game is pretty scary. Damn, i wonder what kind of scares? We talking about Resident Evil scares? If so, i don't think im prepared for that.

What do you mean by Resident Evil scares?

I mean will Alan Wake give me the same feeling of dread that i had when i played Resident Evil the Game Cube remake.

I had kind of pegged Alan Wake as a different type of game. A game with some eerie atmosphere but not full on, nightmare type stuff.
