Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of "Psycho".

Hopkins doesn't look like him much at all, imo. Not that Timothy Spall would do much better. I also don't see how you get Scarlett Johansson to look anything like Janet Leigh. Not to mention Jessica Biel as her onscreen sister.

what do you mean he doesnt look like him much at all?

Is that make-up? I'm assuming at hopkins age he wouldn't want to put on a massive weight gain.

If it's make-uo i wonder if it will look as convincing in action.

Here a better comparison pic too:

Haha I mean there's some similarities, but he doesn't really look like Hitchcock. Hopkins looks like a fat butler. As if his character James Stevens spent "the remains of the day" eating alot, lol.

It's about capturing the spirit of the man. Not about how much he looks like him.

This is true, but the thread has been full of comments saying he looks exactly the same, and he simply disagreed with them.

Understood. I was making a general comment, I didn't quote him.

Looking like someone does not make it great casting imo. See Reese Witherspoon who won the oscar.

I always like it when the actors resemble who they are playing, but this is not essential.

It's like how I believe that Jim Carrey must play country singer George Jones in a biopic;

I could definitely see Jim Carrey as George Jones. But who would be cast as Tammy Wynette?

That's a tough one. I'm not sure if January could pull it of. You may come close to the look, but I feel it should be someone who could bring a little more grit to the table. Like an older version of Chloe Grace Moretz. I don't know, I'll have to think about that...

Got it. Tammy Wynette should be played by Jessica Chastain. That would be brilliant.

Other than Hopkin's shorter nose and larger chin, the resemblance is uncanny! It'll definitely get a nom for best make up.

Just last night I watched Psycho for the first time. The movie was good, and I'm sure it was damn scary for it's time, but for mi it is hilarious for people to claim the movie is still scary today. There are like 21542 movies more scary than this one.

"Scary" is a subjective thing. I think Mulholland Dr is terrifying...most people probably think that's silly. Back to Psycho, while it may be dated, I do think there are some scenes that still disturb. The faceless, nearly formless murderer approaching the shower curtain is quite horrifying to me, because it is a kind of amalgamation of all the people that might want to do harm to Marion. I think Bates' embarassing attachment to his mother is very creepy as well. Alas, when I think of Psycho I don't necessarily think of a horror movie any way, but a suspense film, and it is one of the most suspenseful movies ever made.

Pretty damn good job - not an exact match as some have pointed out - but then given that Hopkins does not have the best face for Hitchcock, it's about as close as you are going to get. Sure, Hitch has a weaker chin, but maybe that as small as they could go without removing part of Hopkins own chin! I am sure once he is doing the voice it will be perfect, his Nixon was good and he looked nothing like Richard. Hats off to Peter Montagna, Howard Burger and all the gang at KNB!

Casting has so much to do with the success of these things. Martin Landau was physically all wrong for Bela Lugosi [he was too tall, had a long face, etc.] - but the make-up changed just enough of his features to suggest Bela - and his acting did the rest.

its a hbo movie. i think it will be realesed in weeks
