Brief look at footage for the series:

The cinematography is on point. That last shot looks so much like it could’ve come from the first two films that you could slot it right in and it wouldn’t look one bit out of place.

Just keep any of the dumb Engineer or Prometheus garbage out of the show.

I love Prometheus and Covenant but imo Alien sequels should always ignore everything but the original movie. Reinvent the mythology in new exciting ways, don't be bogged down by the Engineer lore or Cameron's dull reduction of the Xenomorphs to mindless insects.

This has a chance of being the first Alien project outside the original film I unreservedly like if its up to Hawley's usual standard. I've always had a pretty low opinion of Aliens and while I love Alien 3, Prometheus and Covenant they... uhhh... have some Serious Writing Issues. Romulus and Resurrection don't even bear acknowledging.

Is my memory foggy or wasn't the initial talk around this show that it would be in the Alien universe but very light on actual Alien? (because that would create some possible plotholes with later films) Feels like with recent marketing they're really leaning all in on the creature stuff, I guess that's what people want after all.

I'm very excited for this show but this franchise is like a rollercoaster and you never know where you'll land.

I get the impression that they were more interested in exploring the corporate bull**** than the xenomorph.

The corporate Weyland-Yutani angle has been a part of every film, excluding Alien: Resurrection, which replaces Weyland-Yutani with the military. I do think you need a nice balance and mix of those elements though.

A TV series means you can't just have nonstop facehuggers and Xenomorphs for 40 minutes a week. So they will have to expand on the lore. Just like Andor spends a lot of time on the day-to-day operations of ISB and Empire's propaganda and false flag operations, as well as Mon Mothma's activities with the bankers, the senate, et al.

The 8-episode season will premiere with two episodes on Tuesday, August 12, at 8 p.m. ET on Hulu and the FX linear channel at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the U.S., and via Disney+ internationally. New episodes will drop on Tuesdays on Hulu beginning at 8 p.m. ET and FX at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Oh, so it will air on broadcast TV! Okay, good. All this time I thought this would only be available to watch on Hulu. Will definitely be watching, then. I'm not a huge follower of the Alien franchise, but I'll gladly watch whatever Noah Hawley is cooking.
