Sci-Fi Alien: Earth (Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott) | FX on HULU

This show got really schlocky towards the end but I still enjoyed it enough overall. The finale was probably my least favorite episode but it still had its moments.

Kirsch vs. Morrow was pretty cool although way too short and we finally got to see the flesh eating plant alien do something as ridiculous as it was.

I'm not really sure if I like the direction this seems to be going in with Wendy and The Xenos but I'd still watch a Season 2 because I'm at least curious to see where this goes and if the payoff will be worth it.

Also, T.Ocellus has easily been the most consistent thing in this show and I definitely want to see more of her going forward as well.

This got surprisingly schlocky the further it went on and I'm mixed honestly. I'd probably give the series a 7/10 and put it somewhere in the bottom half of all Alien stuff. There's at least 4 movies I'd take over it and I'd probably put Alien Earth on the same level as like Alien Resurrection where you get some cool things, some silly things and a messy tone.

Curious to see your rankings.

Curious to see your rankings.
Probably something like this

Aliens
Alien
Alien 3
--
Alien Romulus
Alien Resurrection
Alien Earth
Prometheus
Alien Covenant
(Alien vs Predator)
--bottom of a ravine--
(AvP 2: Requiem)

Top 3 for me are definitely in a tier of their own. I go back and forth if I like Alien or Aliens the most but today I'll give the nod to the sequel, if nothing else it's probably the most enjoyable on a rewatch. Alien 3 for me is almost there but only really suffers from not having a definitive cut. (Still need to watch the legacy cut that came out).

Then there's a block that are all fairly close to each other. Romulus gets a negative for some of the blatant callbacks and references for me but still well crafted. Resurrection is dumb schlock but it's dumb fun. Alien Earth kinda in the middle, Prometheus and Covenant both look great but I get annoyed by the characters in them. AvP (the first one) is pretty fine. Nothing special but on a sunday afternoon it's something you can have on in the background. AvP 2 last by a decent margin. Some interesting ideas but poor execution.

I liked the ending, the way this seems to be going it only cements why Weyland Yutani sends Ripley's crew to retrieve an egg.

I'd definitely rank this in my top rankings of Alien stuff.

Last ep, somewhat became the premise of Westworld
Pretty much Maeve Millay's arc with a dash of Aliens and a sentient-eyeball thrown in.:oldrazz:

I would have enjoyed the kids messing around with the staff more taking up the bulk of the episode.

The plant thing finally did something. Neat.

Eye Friend didn't get the body I was expecting. Sad.

New Xeno factoid: They enjoy eating crab...

I liked the finale. Overall my take on this season was good, not great. I'm down for more though.

Ocellus is the MVP of the season. The xenomorphs themselves are increasingly becoming abused with how we are seeing them. Too much out in the open too, makes the effects stand out negatively.

Okay, I can sort of see a case to be made for the first four (slightly disagree on Alien 3, but I can see why you would put it there), but in no universe is Alien: Resurection better than Prometheus or Alien: Earth.

Alien: Resurrection is dumb fun schlock, but its unintentionally dumb fun sclock. It would be like “The Room” of the Alien franchise if not for some of the acting and the production value. Prometheus, despite its various flaws and somewhat dumb character choices, still has some things to say and tries to go for something even if it isn’t all successful. Also, Michael Fassbender as David.

This show was terrible, and I don't get why Noah Hawley is such a revered and celebrated writer at this point.

Yeah Prometheus is pretty good and could probably be a spot or two higher. I don't necessarily disagree with things you say about Resurrection but I find Earth to be similarly schlocky. Main difference for me there is some nostalgic attachment to seeing Resurrection as a kid. :D
