Sega Alien: Isolation

Who would willingly play a mode it's impossible to win?

I forgot where I was for a minute. :o

Somebody hasn't seen all the 'impossible' games that people keep making.

Just finished this.

I have no idea what the general consensus about the game is, but I really loved it. It's pretty much the Alien game I've always wanted.

My only real problem with it, minor nitpicks aside, is that the last hour or so is pretty abysmal. Completely pointless setback once you're ready to leave the station and finish the game, incredibly annoying facehugger section, QTE "boss fight", vague ending hinting at a sequel that might never come. It's really unfortunate. Such an awesome game doesn't deserve such a soft ending.

Oh, well. Hopefully Creative Assembly get to make a sequel. Or at the very least, I hope future developers follow suit.

The facehuggers weren't too bad. They made noises to warn you that they were coming, enough time to prepare.

Sure, if you could see them. A few times they blended in with the environment so they were hard to see until it was too late.

Yeah, and plus a lot of times they would end up behind me somehow.

I still find it funny how much I hoarded my first time through. I searched every nook and cranny for supplies, spent hours crafting everything I could to keep all my supplies maxed out 'just in case' and by the end of the game everything was maxed, all my items, extra supplies, ammo. I was a walking junkyard. Just call me Wolfgang.

I don't know if it was the difficulty I played it on, or just how I played the game, but I found the balance or resources to be pretty great. I never had such a surplus of stuff that I felt like I could just run around , but I never had so little that I felt like I was ever completely out of options.

Oh, I see. I spent the game crouched like 90% of the time so I spotted all of them.

Same here. I had max ammo for a lot of things, I was maxed for a majority of supplies, I had max gadgets and tools. I didn't even use the flamethrower against the Alien until the 14 mission.

I used almost no noisemakers or anything else for at least the first half of the game because I thought they'd be so rare and I didn't want to waste them.

Gonna venture back into this thread after dinner to around launch and play catch up but what's the skinny on this? Worth $20 bucks? Any crippling negatives?

I would say it's so worth it. One of the scariest games if you ask me.

If you liked the first movie and any type of stalker games where the monster is after you as opposed to being you, then go for it. You'll run and hide a lot but it feels like you're playing a sequel directly based on the first movie, ignoring the action based Aliens, Alien 3 and so on. :p It has the atmosphere, look and general feeling of the same used universe the first movie was in. I loved it.

Cool. I tend to find horror games... exhausting... frankly I'm not sure why I continue to put myself through them but this looks pretty good and I dig the movies.

Where can you find it for $20?

Xbox Live weekly sale. Should be 60% off through Monday. The season pass is $12 but I figure I'll pass on that for now.

It does have it's long stretches where the Alien doesn't show up and all you have to deal with are... other things but when it is after you you know it and on the harder difficulties it's like you ate its baby or something as it wants you something fierce. As few other games have, it made me have to pause the game at certain parts and wait to calm down before I could keep going.

Is there any special deal if you're getting DLC on both versions?

I don't think. I just got it and it's DLC on the first day of the sale.

Oh right thanks.

I think it's fantastic. It's worth more than twenty. The only real problem I had with it was I felt the ending was a bit of a let down, but it's a fairly lengthy game by modern standards so one meh hour out of eighteen or whatever isn't too bad.

I bought this for my PS4 when it came out, but iv never completed it. Just kinda got buried due to all the other games i was playing at the time. Now i hear there are face huggers in the game? Yea f**k that, im not dealing with those things.

But for real, I need to throw this back in my system. The little bit I played felt incredibly 'authentic'.

It is a true masterpiece. I was surprised by how much replay value it has, and how good the story was. I've been gaming for ages. This one goes in the all-time hall of fame.

I agree. I am on my fifth playthrough, fourth time a challenging difficulty, and I'm still not tired of playing it. I think this game will be even better received in the years to come. It is certainly one of the greatest games I've ever played.

I just started it recently and seems cool so far. My mate who is a massive Alien fan swears by it.

Have fun. Say hi to it for us and by hi I mean smack it with a hammer as it goes by.
