The thing I keep coming back to is the fact that if a movie is good, it can have a hundred characters and it will still do justice to every single one and we won't feel like it is overstuffed. If a film is bad, it can have just 2 leads and we will still feel bored.

It frankly does not matter how many characters are in a movie if you have a good movie. The first X-Men movie, Fellowship of the ring, Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy, even Watchmen had to introduce a large cast of characters to the audiences and did just fine with it.

I'll accept a "downer ending" if it's revealed that it's all part of a fake out plan by Clark and Bruce. The villain is Lex Luthor, so I expect it might take more than one film to take him down.

Batman loses his arm and discovers Lex is his father?

Personally, I think upbeat ending is the way to go. MoS got crucified for being too serious/dark and everyone is already saying DC is dour compared to Marvel. Supes dying would make that 1000 times worse. IF he dies, I say he comes back to life in the film itself, not JL.

Even though I am looking forward to seeing this, I just can't shake the feeling this movie might be the biggest superhero movie letdown of all time. There is simply to many characters crammed in this and I don't know if Zack Synder can handle it properly. Now if this was Jos Wheadon I would have more faith, but Zack hasn't really proven he can handle a large cast of this kind. Not bashing Zack as a director as I liked his work such as 300, Watchmen, even Man of Steel. I don't know it was him or WB, or DC who wanted to cram all these heroes into the movie to rush their own cinematic universe, but I feel like this movie may go the way of Spiderman 3 and Amazing Spider Man 2 with to many characters/ world building elements and not enough screentime for development. I feel like Superman is gonna get shafted in his own movie in favor of Batman and the other heroes.

1) Too many characters...anyone other than Superman, Batman and WW are cameos...Cyborg has one scene. We don't even know if Flash or Aquaman are in this film. Anyway the amount of characters is not the purview of the director but the screenwriter. If the script handles them then the director should be able to. Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen and Man of Steel have shown he can handle movies with multiple casts. The problem with the Spider-man films was't too many characters...the problem is it didn't handle the characters correctly.
