hahha

But there were saves last time, from childhood into his first appearance in manhood. And in this new teaser as well.
You must mean mid battle saves, for those are the only ones that seem to count. But again, those were there last time...
I think he's going to have to get really on the nose and even have superman look at the screen for it to really stick.

True about it being on the nose.I expect a lot of criticisms on that front.

How much of the movie do you think Zack filmed with IMAX camera's?

Yup, mid battle saves. And like I said, he will catch flack for it to. I think snyder will go out of his way to make sure civies are not in harms way this time.
Personally I had no problem with what happened in mos, but it seems that alot did.

Thanks. Just wanted some advice. I did really like Avengers, but wanted to be sure it would be worth the crowds and the time. I think I may.

Just don't do 3D. I hear it's not worth it and after seeing it twice in 2D I agree.

Granted, none of it could or ever would happen in real life but if it did, the hero couldnt just stop to save one when thousands or millions more are in harms way. Thats just not logical. Especially so if the villain is just as strong and fast as the hero. Please mr villain can you stop for a second so I can save this person. I dont think so.

The hero always find a way, that's what makes them super heroes.

I don't find that particularly compelling.

If no one dies under a superhero's watch, then what's the threat? I agree with Whedon and Faraci that emotional stakes are important, as they inform the development of these characters, but let's not pretend that situational stakes aren't important either.

Does The Joker make as much of an impact in TDK if he doesn't actually succeed in killing some people (including someone very close to Batman)? Why would we be scared of Ultron throughout the film if he doesn't actually succeed at something from time to time?

The hero overcomes obstacles and defeats the villain in the end. But the villains need to challenge the hero physically, spiritually, AND emotionally for that to be worth a damn. Smashing him through buildings we know are abandoned doesn't cut it.

They're superheroes, but their not omnipotent, nor are they perfect. People are going to get hurt, and people are going to die. It's an unavoidable tragedy with violence. Yet they continue to fight the good fight despite the emotional tolls that come with sacrifice and failure. That's what counts.

So, I saw AoU last night, and I liked it, I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10 overall, but like you guys said earlier, one thing that really bugged me was
when the city was being lifted up to be dropped down like a meteor and it looked like they had no choice but to blow it up because it would save more lives than it would end. At first I was like, "Aw man, this could be a really sweet opportunity for the characters to have to make a tough moral dilemma, like Tony Stark would be for blowing them up, but Cap would want to save all the people on it, which could be a cool lead in to Civil War," but nope, a convenient deus ex machina had to arrive in the form of a Helicarrier piloted by Nick Fury (seriously, did Whedon forget about the events of the previous movies where S.H.I.E.L.D. got taken down and all their Helicarrier's destroyed? Hey Sam, how the hell were you able to pull that out of your ass like you did?

That's actually not what makes them superheroes. That's technically what makes batgod, the batgod though:drl:

At a certain point in mos, the world was beyond doomed and even superman was out of his depth, somehow he turned it around and saved the day. On several occasions. How he managed to do all of this on his first day when so clearly outnumbered and without a team and Stark's science and a world ending ha literally saps his powers... is what could be defined as 'finding a way'.
Definition met.

"The hero always find a way" only works in fiction with deus ex machina.

Heroes exist in the real world and what makes one can be making a sacrifice, or taking a hard decision, etc...

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, I died in WS. Whedon is the one who can't let go. I'm the mother****ing Gandalf of MCU. Always showing up at the last minute.

Rather than throw "saves" in it as if they were some random ingredient, I think they should simply conceive the story in a way that lets those character traits shine explicitly... so that he can actually do the stuff he should be able to pull off better than anyone. Let THAT be the dictating focus rather than the logic behind some made-up terraforming science or whatever. No math or rescue scene algorithms needed.

I haven't seen it, but hasn't Whedon been getting flack for ignoring most of the plot advancements in Phase Two?

Truth be told, the concept of a perfect Superman who saves every person every single time bores me to tears. I have absolutely no issues with the IDEAS behind MoS. It was the executions of those ideas I didn't care for.

Give me a character who stumbles from time to time. Give me a character who has to make hard decisions. Give me a character who isn't surrounded by unanimous praise and adoration from day one.

That's what arcs are made of.

The "deus ex machina" thing works only in comics.
Adaptions for screen should avoid it.

Well.... MCU is very cartoonist. Deus Ex Machina works there.

But follow through is necessary, Deus Ex Machina or not. Like, there should have been at least one line where someone remarks on how lucky they got. Little things like that make the Deus Ex Machina more tolerable, and the whole story more logical.
