I think it would be too convenient to have a simple dream that ultimately find some weight by the coming of Darkseid later in the saga.
To me, it needs to be more, there many rumors and teasing around this sequence.

I wonder if WB/DC go this route for next's year comic con. I know Dave Chappelle is doing this at his shows to prevent filming. This seems like an easy solution to solve the leaking problem at SDCC.

That was an adaptation that didn't really nail it unfortunately. But the story is pretty basic (although I will say it's a story I like) so I'd expect any film to add more in although we don't get straight up adaptations in the movies anyway so I'm sure they'd pull from many sources.
