all possible homages from the Batman V Superman trailers to The Dark Knight Returns comic

I usually agree with Landis' criticisms. He was completely right about Rey being a boring character in TFA and I hope they challenge her a little more in Episode VIII.

But I don't agree with Landis' opinion on Superman killing Zod in MoS. Zod had to die. There was no way to imprison him or redeem him after the destruction he'd just caused.

The neck snap was a little brutal, but Superman comics can get brutal sometimes.

If the Batman smashing through a window shot is an intentional homage to the inspirational bat crashing through a window in DKR and Year One, then that is genius.

I'd love to see a full BvS comic influences list when all is said and done. Should be a long list.

P
So another guy on IMDB claims to have attended a test screening in LA. Of the half-dozen or so reports of the supposed plot of the movie, this one is the most believable to me, personally (This is after reading the first 19 pages of his answers to peoples questions)

I don't buy it. What makes me think its BS is the [BLACKOUT]Lex getting cancer[/BLACKOUT] bit.

That's one of the oldest and dumbest rumors associated with that character. And I really don't understand why it's such a popular theory.

I wouldn't call him a troll, but that is a rather tactless response.

How is it tactless. He's being tweeted fanboy stuff by people who hope for that very sort of response. "Lame" just about covers it.

I liked the fact that the scene defied expectations and tried something different. People also forget that Supes killed Zod in Superman 2 as well.

Nah he is as wrong about Rey as he is about MOS.

He is wrong about Rey – however she - or rather Daisy Ridley - was the shining light in a movie equivalent of the Emperor's New Clothes.

He is however 100% wrong about the MoS. I have to agree with Wise on this one, Superman was left with no choice. If there was a problem it was acutally that the script, that wrote him into the situation in the first place – however for me personally I don't mind the neck-snap, it shocked me, which is unique for most movies these days... how many movies still have a genuine 'shock' in them? There are only two bits of MoS I would change – Pa Kent's death and the Clark joining the Planet ending... they should have had some acknowledgement of the death and devastation.

He could simply choose not to respond to tweets he doesn't appreciate. If people are really "hoping for that response" (I'm not sure if that truly was the intent or not), it might be wise to avoid giving in to exactly what they want (if that's the case).

I still think that American Ultra is an underrated masterpiece and far ahead of its time.

A brilliant contributor to world cinema in modern times.

Yeah that's the one script decision that I can never get behind. A big cgi tornado sequence where Pa Kent idiotically throws his life away by telling Clark to get to the overpass and he'll go back for the dog, when he knows full well that the tornado poses no danger to Clark.

Maybe I'm too sentimentally attached to the 78 movie's version of Jonathan's death which is done simply and quickly and teaches Clark a poignant lesson about life and death and that no matter what he does he can't save everyone.

Haaahahahahaaahahaahaha

No for real, that man is a modern day Kubrick, a genius screenwriter that puts Nolan to shame with his overuse of exposition and lack of awesomesauce unlike the great Max freakin Landis.

I would have honestly preferred him to not die at all.

You could be right about the criticism being somewhat sexist. I also think Landis should keep quiet and worry about his own dying career. It's always funny to me when the writer of Victor Frankenstein tries to tell people how to tell a story.

Agreed!

Everything about this is fantastic.

Wild Pa Kent theory-- what if that tornado was a boom tube...and Pa is Darkseid's prisoner in JL/JL2?

Darkseid: "What was i supposed to do, Just invade earth?"

Pa Kent: "...Maybe."
