Darkseid: "What was i supposed to do, Just invade earth?"
Pa Kent: "...Maybe."
You're right. That is wild.
Yeah that's the one script decision that I can never get behind. A big cgi tornado sequence where Pa Kent idiotically throws his life away by telling Clark to get to the overpass and he'll go back for the dog, when he knows full well that the tornado poses no danger to Clark.
Maybe I'm too sentimentally attached to the 78 movie's version of Jonathan's death which is done simply and quickly and teaches Clark a poignant lesson about life and death and that no matter what he does he can't save everyone.
Pa's death in the '78 movie always gets me.![]()

I glad no one from the DCEU talks trash about Marvel. Makes me respect them even more in that aspect.
I hope this doesn't start a DC v Marvel debate

Calling Superman "Stupidman" and proudly referring to himself by his D-list character's name, yes I feel reasonably sure he was just kidding.
This is a problematic scene for me as well for a couple of different reasons, but I kind of understand Pa Kent's reasoning.
In the flashback sequences to Clark's childhood, we see that the Kents are overprotective of him; this was mostly born out of a fear that people would learn of his unearthly abilities were he to unknowingly exhibit them in public. I think Jonathan feared that Clark would forgo what he was taught [remember the lecture following the bus scene] and fall back on his natural instincts to save others were he in a situation where multiple lives were at stake.
I suppose you could also look at Pa Kent's behavior as a form of parental paranoia. Indeed, it wasn't the tornado that he was afraid of, it was his son's inclination to do what comes naturally to him: saving lives w/ his powers. By sending Clark back to the overpass, Pa was simply trying to reinforce control over him.
