BvS All Things Superman and Batman: An Open Discussion

THANK YOU. That's what's bugging me about people's reactions. You'd think Snyder was about to sit in on a hypnosis session with Miller. He's his own person, perfectly capable of independent thought.

The thing is, the very fact that he'd turn to Miller is worrying me. It could be indicative of the very general direction he'd like to go to. And it's not a very good direction, imo.

If you don't understand why pitting the two most iconic and legendary superheroes of all time against each other and marketing it as this epic clash of the titans doesn't add intrigue for the general public, I don't know what else to say.

I keep saying...we saw Superman get his ass handed to him by Lex in SR, in one of the most brutal on-screen superhero beatdowns ever (that at Bane breaking the Bat are the two worst). Superman famously has a weakness with kryptonite. It's needed as a plot device to get him INTO jams as much as Batman's utility belt is needed as a plot device to get him out of jams.

Everyone knows Superman's weakness. Just because MoS didn't introduce kryptonite doesn't mean the general public has forgotten it exists. I think people can put two and two together that Batman wouldn't be engaging him in any sort of fight if he didn't have an equalizer.

Eh, I know we're going to go in circles if I explain how laughable the idea of Batman taking on Superman is after what we got in MOS. But, sure there will be some intrigue because the idea is just dumb within the context of this "real" Superman. So, I'll leave it at that.

It has more intrigue to it. Why are they fighting? Who will win? Etc. People will want to know.

Not that a team up wouldn't get people more excited, but as you said it's...simple. They need to distinguish this from The Avengers as much as possible IMO.



Hostility or not, it'll get us TALKING. It's already getting us talking. And all of us are going to buy a ticket no matter what.

Unless somebody here debunks this but David Goyer here said at the SDCC Superman panel that there will indeed be some decent follow-up to the events that transpired in Man of Steel within the movie.

Goyer said that WF would address the ramifications of Superman killing Zod in MOS. Given his no-killing rule, Batman is actually to perfect person to have that discussion with, since he would oppose what Superman did regardless of context. If WW was in the movie, it would be even better since she would probably support killing Zod in that circumstance (she broke Max Lord's neck after all).

The idea of an old, Frank Millerish Batman totally screws with a lot of people's ideas for the standalone Batman movie(s) and character dynamics. No interest in Batman fighting Superman, even less interest in an old Batman.

That would be an interesting direction to take seeing the differing ideas of justice between those 3 characters. Anyways, I'm pleased with what Goyer said that there will be some follow-up, which is the first step into making a decent sequel to MOS. The next step would be what's going on with the characters in this movie like Lois/Clark. I think it's a given we'll see some Superman-Lois interaction and development since MOS, another plus for this movie, since that's what people want.

One thing I am worried about is that Zack Snyder has not mentioned Lex Luthor at all. Is there still no word on it? It's one thing to have a lot of Easter Egg teasers, it's another to confirm it. I do not want Bruce Wayne taking the place of Lex.

They cannot call this film "Batman vs. Superman" and give us one skirmish. I'm sorry but I'm afraid that is wishful thinking on your part. They're going to have a intense, heated and complex relationship in this film. The writing is on the wall.

There will be plenty of room for the "buddy cop" stuff in Justice League.

Yeah but the mere fact that Goyer is even saying "We're not sure if we're gonna call it Batman vs. Superman or Superman vs. Batman" is an eyebrow raiser. Both of the options he offered up there have VS. in the title.

It's just the way things look right now. Maybe it won't turn out that way, but right now it very much feels like we're going to get a VS. movie. Plus, considering this is a WB mandate and WB has been keen on making a Batman vs. Superman film for a long time now...throw in the DKReturns quote at SDCC, Snyder meeting with Miller and it all starts to add up.

Honestly, if Batman ends up humiliating Superman in this film, then I'm done with Warner Bros's DC films period and I'm switching completely over to Marvel until someone at the studio manages to make a great Superman franchise that doesn't involve the Caped Invader.
