Justice League The Bruce Wayne/Batman Thread

if wb can't snag gosling, i think they'll go with someone like sam claflin.

I don't see why people are afraid of an older actor getting cast as Batman in the movie. I'd rather see a 40 year old Batman than one in his 20s. Young Batman would be a colossal mistake... I can't see Bruce being at his "roll with the League" level in his first few years of being Batman. He'd need at least 10 minimum. That would put him in his mid thirties at the youngest so it wouldn't be a problem to have him portrayed by someone that age or older. He doesn't have to be the male eye candy which will inevitably come with the movie... Hal, Barry, or even Clark could fill that better than Bruce would anyway.

The problem is that most of the JL members will presumably be somewhere in their 20s (very early 30s tops) so having a 40 year old Batman in a team full of younger members would feel out of place. A 40 year old as Batman wouldn't be a problem if the reboot was independent but we are discussing a Batman in a JL movie here and in a JL movie that takes place in the early few years of the modern DCU timeline where everyone else will be fairly young.

Assuming original lineup, Aquaman could be considerably older as well. It depends on whether they want to make him the eager, young, inexperienced king archetype or THE KING. Martian Manhunter would also not be so young... alien or human form.

GL, Flash, Superman, and Wonder Woman are the only ones I really seeing being youngin's (and possibly Aquaman like said above). I think that's fine, Batman can take a sort of mentor role for the team since he'd be at it a while while the others (excluding Superman and maybe GL or Aquaman) are relatively new to what they do.

If Man of Steel is the first chronological film, Superman will be the most experienced. I want Batman to be of a similar age to Superman.

Batman in the JL and reboot films should be in his early 30s. have him already have a few years of crime fighting under his belt and be around the same age range as the other members of the JL.

I said most of them would probably be young; not all. MM is definitely the biggest exception.

Assuming that Man of Steel will be canon to the JL continuity, Superman would be fairly young so Batman being in his 40s wouldn't work that well IMO. You can make him a bit older than some of the other JL members but him and Superman (and also Wonder Woman) have to be around the same age.

If Man of Steel is the first chronological film, Superman will be the most experienced.

Not if Batman is already active during the events of Man of Steel and if the first movie in the reboot features an already established Batman.

I just realised, Even Matt Bomer seems Cavill-ish in his looks..

So does Richard Madden. Imagine Cavill as Superman, Madden as Batman, Bomer as Flash.

I feel that we should avoid "look-alike" actors or general audiences will lose interest.

Which makes me think of Josh Hartnett rather seriously!

You have to acknowledge his acting style is more Bruce Wayne than Clark Kent.

what the hell has Hartnett been up to? i haven't seen that guy in anything since 30 Days of Night

The guy's a decent actor, and yeah he does tend to play more brooding characters.

He does fit the Bruce Wayne mold in that respect, and I wouldn't be unhappy/disappointed if he were cast.

Hartnett's a guy I always thought was perfect for Superman but I could definitely see him as Batman

Actually it was the Silver Age they were the same age, in the Post-Crisis world Superman was 2 years older and in the New 52 Superman is 27 and Batman is 30.

Interesting. I had no idea Superman was older in Post-Crisis. I knew at one point they were both 30.

What we should generally take away from this is at no point has Batman been significantly older than Superman.

Granted Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are supposed to be roughly the same (physical) age, and Avengers worked just fine with a 30 year old Captain America and a 45 year old Iron Man.

Going to throw this one out there again. Anyone here watch Homeland? I think Rupert Friend might make a good Batman. His character on that show is sort of like Batman only a little more impetuous. He'd need to bulk up a bit, but I think it could work.

^ Alright... He has my attention. Can he act?

He appears too skinny right now but that isn't a problem.

I think he looks the part. And nearly everyone in Homeland is a stellar actor. If he bulked up he would likely look as similar to comic book Bruce as Cavill does to comic book Clark.

can scott adkins act? if so, he can definitely play batman.

just rewatched TDKR and i know i said i still want bale to return i have 100% changed my mind i dont want bale back because it would just diminish the entire nolan trilogy and especially TKR ending. It was such a beautiful send off where bruce can now live a peaceful life now that he has saved gotham and gave them the symbol of hope they needed

it would be the equivalent of a pro athlete finally retiring after a great career only to return and diminish the send off - for any pro wrestling fans it is like when ric flair returned after his retirement

I wouldn't mind it if they write it as Bruce finding a new purpose, while still putting Gotham behind him (leaving it in Blake's protection).

Yes, he accomplished what he set out to do in Gotham, but perhaps years later when global threats emerge, he can't help but feel that he should extend his mission to the rest of the world, as having the world's greatest heroes band together will give the world the hope it needs.

Though Bruce is pretty useless now, with a broken body, no money, and not ever having been Sherlock Holmes, perhaps this symbolic gathering is more important than actually bringing each member to the league for their strengths.

He doesn't have a friendly face.

Well he's certainly got the forehead for that cowl. :awesome:

And God no to Hartnett as Batman. If charisma was his supply of air, he'd be dead in minutes.

He has the square chin too like the animated Batman, but he looks rather gaunt. It's not just a matter of bulking up, he has to fill out his face as well. Then we'll see. He's too slight at the moment.

I'm still on the Ryan Gosling band wagon. Haters be damned.
