And nerf Superman down. Honestly, Batman shouldn't win. Even if he weakened Supes, just hitting him without giant gauntlets would hurt his own hand.
I am sure some sort of Exo suit that amplifies Batmans strength will be involved.

They'll have a variety of gimmicks to make this an even fight.

I actually prefer Batman Forever over the Burton movies myself. At least BF tried to be about Batman and explore his character (unlike Burton, who was too obsessed with the villains). Also, Batman isn't a psychotic mass-murderer in BF, unlike the Burton films when he acts more like the Punisher.

'Man of Steel 2' Seeking 40-ish Batman: The Early Contenders

Josh Brolin, Joe Manganiello, Richard Armitage? These actors and more are in the hunt as speculation over casting the new Dark Knight begins.

Who will play Batman?

That's the big question gripping the fanboy world ever since Warner Bros. and DC announced at Comic-Con that the two iconic heroes will team up for the Man of Steel sequel.

On Thursday, the L.A. Times posited 16 faces and conducted a popularity poll. The list was all over the map, from TV stars such as Jensen Ackles and Andrew Lincoln to next generation stars Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to outliers like Simon Pegg and Daniel Dae Kim.
The poll might be fun, but The Hollywood Reporter is hearing that a totally different set of names are in the mix.

First, some words of caution. The script is still being written, so nothing has been submitted formally to reps and actors. Two, according to sources, director Zack Snyder is only just beginning to look at actors.
But the real insight is the kind of Bruce Wayne/Batman that Snyder is looking to cast. According to numerous sources, this Wayne/Batman will be in the late 30s or around the 40 mark. He will be established and rugged. This new movie will not seek to recount an origin story or the rise of the Dark Knight. Christian Bale, The Dark Knight trilogy Batman, has said he won't return for another film.

Sources say the new movie is aiming for the tone of the relationship and fight seen in Frank Miller’s 1980s ground-breaking mini-series The Dark Knight Returns (How important is that work? Important enough that the cover to issue No. 2 sold Friday at a Heritage Auction for $478,000.)

Enough with the preamble.

Here are the top names surfacing at this stage:

Josh Brolin, 46 -- Warner Bros likes him a lot. He starred in the studio’s Gangster Squad, and that’s after he toplined the studio’s 2010 dud Jonah Hex. He's also attached to star in Warners' Quasimodo project as well as Crazy for the Storm. Plus, he already has a Frank Miller connection: he leads the cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming take on the Miller crime comics.

(Two sources say Brolin is the frontrunner at this stage, but a studio source dismisses the chatter, saying that the casting process hasn't even begun.)

Ryan Gosling, 32 -- Yes, Brolin's Gangster Squad co-star appears to be in the mix. He may be younger than the rest, he may be prettier than the rest, but no one questions his acting chops.
Other contenders:

Joe Manganiello, 36 -- According to several insiders, Snyder liked him as a possible Superman for Man of Steel before settling on Henry Cavill, but one major stumbling block was the schedule that Alan Ball had him on for filming True Blood, the HBO vampire series in which Manganiello plays a werewolf.

Richard Armitage, 41 -- The British actor appeared in TV’s Strike Back, but may be best known to audiences for playing Thorin in the Hobbit movie for Warners' New Line division. He will reprise the characters for the second and third installments.

Max Martini, 43-- He cut his teeth playing tough guys on TV in shows such as Revenge, Castle and Hawaii Five-O but won notice as a sacrificing father in Pacific Rim and will play a Navy SEAL commander in this fall's Captain Phillips.

Matthew Goode, 35 -- He’s already worked with Snyder in the director's 2009 film Watchmen, in which he played Ozymandias.

One insider says that any talk of casting is premature since the script isn't yet written. But that has not stopped studio insiders from whispering names or preventing agencies from drawing up lists of their best faces. Another insider scoffs "You might as well put Adam West in this list" and suggests that a left-of-center choice still could emerge.

Casting is likely to solidify in the coming weeks as Warner Bros wants to shoot the movie in early 2014 for a 2015 release.

I just came up with this crazy idea, and I decided to put I up here to. I was thinking that it would be really fun if Bruce Wayne/Batman was present in disguise investigating Clark through most of MOS 2, but no one knew he was there. Sort of lie how Lois first meets Clark as Joe, but one up, because the audience does not know this is BW/Batman. So I went with some possible aliases for Bruce Wayne.

Then I came up with a truly crazy idea. BW shows up to investigate SM using the name James "Jimmy" Olsen. This also works with my other crazy idea, I want Jenny Jurwich to be the love interest for Batman. So, am I just too crazy, or could this work?

Would it not be interesting if Snyder introduced kryptonite in this movie only for it to have absolutely no impact on Supes at all :woot:

I love that idea.

Batman:Superman, you can't win, I have this rock from your home world.

Batman opens a box.

Superman (still moving at full speed at Batman): Oh, that is made of the same element as the key I kept round my neck for years, it does nothing to me.

In the old George Reeve "Adventures of Superman" show there was one episode where a bad guy claimed to have something that could kill or incapacitate Superman, and Superman went along with it for a bit, and then when he had things the way he wanted, revealed that the substance did nothing to him and that the bad guys were now heading to jail.

Haha. That would be a funny subversion of expectations.

Yeah, I look forward to seeing what Superman uses as a fortress now. The ship made so much sense...

I hope they show Bruce in the Batcave while also showing Superman in the fortress. It would also be cool to see Superman and Batman together in the Batcave or Fortress. I prefer them in the Batcave, though.

Does Superman need a fortress of solitude? OK, I have to admit I come fro the L&C solution where some say "Superman does not have a fortress of solitude". That was actually my view on first viewing too, I did not know enough Superman lore to expect such a thing. However I later realized that they do show the words in L&C, but they designate Clark's old tree house in Smallville, and only appear briefly at the end of one episode.

Does Batman really need a Batcave? :P

If it's in Gotham, I wouldn't mind a cameo, but I don't want him to have a big part. If it's in Metropolis, no because it doesn't fit his story.

I do want to see Bill Henderson, Superman's contact on the Metropolis Police Department.

I wouldn't like it. I want to see Bruce Wayne beforehand in the movie interacting with people like Clark, Lex and maybe Lois. I also want to see things like Bruce suiting up as Batman and also just sitting in the Batcave with his suit on but cowl off.

Plus, I think Supes would easily find out who Bruce is early in the movie with some X-Ray. I don't think Bats will have known about the lead thing yet, so there's no way to hide it.

Do we even know that lead disrupts this Superman's x-ray vision? On the other hand, with this Superman seeing bone structures and internal organs, could he easily "see through" a mask? Yeah, he can see Batman's bones, but does he know bones enough to say "ah, those are Bruce Wayne's bones".

Cleese is pretty old, but that's why Simon Callow is my first choice. Hugh Laurie doesn't fit Alfred to me. He has dry wit, but doesn't scream "Alfred". Great actor, though.

And that would certainly be an interesting way to start the movie.

But isn't Alfred supposed to be old? I always thought he was older than Bruce's parents.

I hope there's 2 kissing scenes with Lois and Clark in this. (Someone had to say it!)

The big question is actually, will Lois and Clark do more than kiss. I want to see them go on dates, but I don't want sex scene. I am still hoping we can get a Lois and Clark marriage injustice League.

It's an exaggeration of the complaints about her turning up everywhere. :oldrazz:
That woman travels fast. Examples are when she goes from place to place searching for him and after he kills Zod. :funny:

I think in the first case she uses a newfangled invention Lois is know to use on occasion, called the car. In the second, I think you mean before he kills Zod, since we see her coming into the terminal before Zod dies. That might be the toughest one, but maybe Lois figured she wanted to get out of town for a bit. I think if she was going to the terminal for a reason other than seeing Superman, it might work her getting there.

Seriously? I know the last movie made over $1 billion but I genuinely thought they would stop at 4.

See that is the difference between WB and Disney. WB stops when they feel a story is done, Disney milks a story for all it is worth. If Disney had done Harry Potter, we would be getting Harry Potter 8.

I don't understand some complaints about the script not being finished yet. If Snyder is already prepping, then he and Goyer have already locked in the main story beats. It doesn't hurt to have a completed script, but if Snyder and Goyer already have the story laid out it shouldn't be a problem.

Plus, Goyer's a fast writer. And hopefully Snyder will get a good writer to rewrite Goyer's dialogue.

I'm not worried about this happening, but if it did, it would ruin it for me, too. I'm interested how Kryptonite is used in this universe. Will it completely incapacitate him like Donner's and Singer's universe, or will it be something that simply weakens him. I think the latter could make more of an interesting battle between Supes and Bats than if it's introduced and Superman whines while the crap is kicked out of him.

I just hope that they do it slightly better than L&C. I loved L&C, but n season 1 Superman gets exposed to Kryptonite, and is really weak and sic for a day, barely at normal strength 24-hours later when Clark wins Lois the teddy bear at a fair (I love that scene). He does not have his ullpowers back for 40 hours or so. Yet in the start of Season 2 he gets hot with a Kryptonite buller, Lois digs it out, and almost immediately he goes and uses Super-strength to stop a car.

However much Kryptonite weakens Superman in MOS2, I want it to always be the same, no changing the amount for plot convenience.

That was also because a "reboot" was not nearly as known or understood as it is now. Where Begins inspired the modern reboot arguably.

You'll still have the people who might be disappointed Bale isn't back as Batman though. That's why the actor cast in the role better be damn near perfect as there is going to be a lot of scrutiny. WB was actually smart to introduce the new batman this way though than in a solo reboot. Less pressure on the actor.

I remember one of the people I saw Batman begins with thought it was meant to be a prequel to other Batman films, sort of like how Star Wars Episode I was a prequel. She was all like "wait, but in the other Batman movie, his love interest was not named Rachel, how does that work."

At the time I thought it was a valid problem. It probably does not help that SR, the ultimate in loose but sort of in the same set film, came out about the same time.

See that is the difference between WB and Disney. WB stops when they feel a story is done, Disney milks a story for all it is worth. If Disney had done Harry Potter, we would be getting Harry Potter 8.

Um, WB did milk the HP franchise: they split the final book into two films. And technically, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is Harry Potter 8.

And even if Disney had snagged the HP rights, they would be contractually obligated to follow JK Rowling's stipulations like WB did. (Non-author sanctioned sequels, UK casting, et al.) Disney would milk the home video releases, but they couldn't do non author-sanctioned sequels.

I hope there aren't any major recasts in this franchise.

I know its petty but consistency is a big thing for me. The Katie Holmes to Maggie Gyllenhaal bugs me to this day!

Well we know Adams, Fishburne and Lane as well as Cavill are coming back. So with Adams coming back they can't do a recast on the Holmes level, although since Lois is a character older than even Batman, recasting her is not quite the same as recasting a character that first appeared in the last film. They might recast Jenny Jurwich, but if they do, I will be convinced they are trying to see how many ways they can get fans up in arms about minor changes to characters.

Zack:Well, Deborah, people seem to be OK with us making Jimmy, Jenny, what can we do to get a rise out of people now?

Deborah:Re-cast Jenny.
