All Things Wonder Woman: An Open Discussion

I just realized that I'm going to be on edge until they announce another director.

I'm having a sudden moment right now guys. I just want a Wonder Woman movie to finally happen. I need somebody to tell me that everything is going to be okay.

Agreed. No Whedon for "Wonder Woman", please.

"All-Star Batman and Robin" is actually very fun to read. It is a complete mess, a bastardization of the character and Miller proves there what I thought for years - that he is a talentless, sexist, cheap neo-noir hack, but it is genuinely fun. It is so terrible that I actually enjoyed it immensely.

You forgot racist, homophobic and Islamaphobic. :oldrazz:

Not that I condone such a thing... but I wouldn't mind a WB hack that leaks info about what really happened with MacLaren right about now.

Lynda Carter as Steve Trevor's mom.

a Wonder Woman movie is going back to square one...but realize they were only on square one point five.
This movie will be made...especially if the rumors are to be believed that WW steals the show in BvS.

Yessir! I hear ya Roach coach. There is so much BS going around on a daily basis....no point getting so pumped for a big let down.

We are vets of this circus of a game.

What I do find interesting is the timing of all this. How WB's released some big time positive buzz last week with the Lego guys taking on the Flash film and Wan possibly being added for Aquaman and than the Ayer and Leto SS stuff....but than the set back with MacLaren leaving the WW film?

Now this news of a possible BvS teaser on Thursday to get the positive momentum going again on the DCU train? All this has probably been planned for weeks in advance.

No matter how great she looks, she is getting older. Hippolyta was played by old women in the series but they didn't give a damn about consistency (she was played by 3 different actresses, after all). It could work if the Amazons aren't immortal or they age really slow... but either way I prefer her to play another role. Like someone in the military, or someone who helps Diana in the outside world like Julia Kapatelis (who, curiously, appeared on the WW '77 comic with the features of Lynda nowadays).

Also, the way she talks about WW... She relies on the Diana Prince alter ego. Which is understandable since she doesn't follow comics and Diana Prince was a huge part of the series (even bigger than WW as the show went on), and the general public probably expects Diana to have an alter ego. Will Diana Prince be present?

Once upon a time, this could have been a pretty awesome Diana and Hippolyta on the big screen:

At this stage, aside from my fan-boy casting of Lucy Lawless as Hippolyta, I'd like to see Hippolyta played by a respected actor along the lines of Cate Blanchett or Kate Winslet.

I think having an established and respected actor in the role would add some necessary ... "gravitas" to the mythology of the Amazons. But, DC/WB have been a little all over the place with their casting, so who knows who they're looking at for the role of Hippolyta (IF Hippolyta is even intended to be part of the solo Wonder Woman film).

Either way, those two should be in the film in some sort of role.

I imagine for Hippolyta, it's going to be a A list name like Cate Blanchett, Angelina Jolie etc Lynda Carter I imagine will be a cameo of some sort.

Yes or Zeta-Jones!

Can they still make the 2017 release?

Sure they can! Just depends how quickly they hire the new director. Need to get the new director onboard within the next 2-3 months minimum I would think.

More than likely, yes.

It's unclear how far into pre-production McLaren was, but even if the new director threw out everything that McLaren was working on, including the script, costumes, set designs, etc and started all over again, there would still be time to film and release the movie for June 2017.

Also, if the "creative differences" reasoning is true, then DC/WB may be looking for a director who will simply do as they're told without exercising too much creative control. That would obviously cut down on the production time as DC/WB (and probably Snyder) would have the final say on the script, costume, set designs, etc and the director's job would simply be to execute their vision to the very best of the director's ability.

So does this mean Snyder won and the movie is going to be set in the Crimea War?

Goodness, I hope not.

IF it has to be set in the past, then go for World War II which at least has a good basis in Wonder Woman's comic book history.

Who cares that Captain America was also set during World War II. They're separate characters and their stories would be very different.

I'm curious how Steve Trevor fits into the film, perhaps he's interrogating Diana in the present of her experiences in Mans World.

Other than the rumoured casting for Suicide Squad, has there been any confirmation that Steve Trevor would even be a part of the solo Wonder Woman movie? I certainly hope that he is, but I'm not sure it is guaranteed.

I think they could work him into the film in a number of ways. Maybe some threat of Wonder Woman's past re-emerges in the present, which requires flashbacks to their last encounter, but plenty of action in the present with Wonder Woman's government appointed liaison lending a hand.

Or Steve Trevor could be researching Wonder Woman's past for Amanda Waller. Or they could even have Steve Trevor as a WWII pilot (if he's removed from the "present day" Suicide Squad).

The article Variety wrote for the "MacLaren leaving" story says that four actors are receiving test offers for a part thought to be Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman movie and that Scott Eastwood is not playing the character.

Steve Trevor is an important part of Wonder Woman's history so I reckon he's in the film. I found it interesting that one of the rumours that MacLaren wanted to make Trevor a damsel in distress character and WB didn't agree which makes me wonder if they want the character to be on equal footing as WW

Ah. I missed that one.

Steve Trevor should be as much the "damsel in distress" as Lois Lane was in Man of Steel or Pepper Potts was in the Iron Man films.

I don't see how Steve Trevor, irrespective of being a highly trained pilot/officer/agent/whatever, can really be on equal footing with a demi-goddess with potentially hundreds or thousands of years of military, combat and tactical experience.

On equal footing, no. But, Steve should be a hero in his own right.
