I find the interaction between Kennex and Dorian to be the brightest spot. The way they present the future on their budget is really well done as well.
But I just can't get into this show, try as I might. It had promise at first, but I don't even think airing the episodes in order would've helped.
Other than the above 2 good things, it's the same cop procedural I've seen a dozen times before. And Detective Valerie? Boring and wooden. They put a hot chick in the show, and called it a day. I haven't seen Minka Kelly in any thing else to my recollection, so I can't say how much of it is her inability.
I would say the stakes for the over arching plot should be higher- what even is the over arching plot? His wife blew up his leg and he forgets things? Dorian remembers things?
Whatever it is, the over arching plot almost never comes up, so almost every episode seems to be 95% filler material, and save a few exceptions often they follow the same formula. Someone dies, so they interview a bunch of people, most being smug or mildly distraught, they barter for some information, find out who's been killing people for revenge, and race the clock before they kill again before stopping them.
The only real over arching villain we seem to have is a few glimpses of Kennex's ex. I think I would prefer a stronger antagonist, maybe one we have some reason to fear. All we have is "huh? why'd she do that?"
So yeah, good pilot, but it's just been circling the drain since. Airing out of order doesn't help, but I barely noticed the difference. If they manage to make it to season 2, hopefully **** will get real.
