To all my friends on the internet,
For quite some time I have been a Dragonball fan. I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a stereotypical "fanboy." I simply enjoy the series. This letter is not meant to be a rant or troll and is solely written with the best interests of the brand in mind.
With that being said, I want to challenge each of you to do a couple things before you decide to purchase tickets for Dragonball: Evolution. I, like many others, have seen this movie. It is true that DB:E came out in theaters in over-seas markets earlier this week and many of us went to see it. Because of the methods of piracy around the world, the final version of the movie can be found on popular torrent and movie streaming websites.
I urge all of you to seek this movie out. If you are excited or even unsure of this moive, please watch it at home first before you decide to give FOX your hard earned money. If you watch this movie at home and are still excited about it, then by all means, visit your local theater, watch it again, and show your support. However, if you watch the movie and realize that this movie completely undermine the brand, its characters, plot lines, effects, history, and future, then please, show your distaste by NOT seeing this film in theaters. Excusing the fact that it destroys everything Dragonball is, this film is nothing more than a B-Rated movie with horrible effects and even worse acting. I promise you this, if you see this movie in theaters, like it, love it, or hate it, you will be telling FOX that they have another customer that would love to see a sequel.
This brand already needs a reboot from the current FOX iteration. True fans of Dragonball should not have to settle for this lackluster attempt at the franchise. We all know in our hearts that the cartoon has the characters, story, plots, and fan base to make a Dragonball movie an incredible success, but if we willingly accept this horrific version, this will be the one we are stuck with. FOX will change nothing about the movie in future iterations and continue to let the series, as we know it, fall by the waste side just to make a quick buck.
While I do not advocate piracy, I believe that even though a film is pirated online, it doesn't necessarily indicate no one will see it. The Dark Knight was pirated early and many people saw it, and, because of the quality of the film, became one of the highest grossing movies of all time.
In closing, I would like to challenge each of you to watch Dragonball: Evolution before purchasing your tickets. If you are as excited about it afterward as you are now, then please, go enjoy the movie. If you are not, voice your opinions to anyone you can. We, the consumer, have the power to dictate our entertainment, not the other way around.
Sincerely,
The Bartender.
