To be fair, many Thor stories were pretty similar to the magical girl mangas when it comes to concept, as were some other heroes.

Dragon Ball Evolution should not be considered an adaption of the source material, making a new movie should not be considered a reboot of that.
Could they make a good Dargon Ball movie? It's possible, a franchise as big as that can be adapted properly, at least translated into a good movie.

Personally, I've always thought, rather than live action, though go with CGI. Ya know Final Fantasy Advent Children? Go with that, DBZ just has too many fantastical designs that wouldn't work well in live action. By all means go make a film series, but stick to CGI.

I realy don't get it why people usualy like to say animes like Dragon Ball have too crazy concepts to be adapted in live action, considering the fact that i would argue that many action Shounen mangas are actualy more realistic than most superhero comics that are being adapted.

Thse guys have been adapted:

To be frank, when you look at some of the heroes designs, they just look very corny, with action mangas, the characters may have a weird look, but that is usualy done to make them look more badass. And a CGI film? Scroll to the top of this page and there's a mention of Saint Seiya: Legends of Sanctuary, which tried to do what you say and failed badly.

I think the problem with American anime adaptations is that the producers doubt too much and therefore change what would actualy make their films fresher. Asking so many questions about how it can work and if it isn't too silly, a double standard they no longer aply with superhero adaptations...

Is that a big yellow pony tail coming out of Loki's head?

We gave as good a try as we could...let us know what you think.

It's entertaining, not a strong start, but an entertaining one.

I came here to post this... you were part of that?

I work for the production company now...I had little to do with this as I am a writer and my knowledge of DBZ is right up there with Quantum physics. However our partner ship with Machinima is giving us first crack at DC heroes and I have written a short based on Elongated Man and another on The Vigilante.

the spiky hair should look like this, different little strains instead of it all coming to a point.

If they make a CG version, that is how it should look. That is eerily good.

Major thread bump but I just had a thought the other day.

I still don't think it would be good decision to make a DBZ movie. But if they do do it they should do it Tintin style with actors doing the mo cap.

If that is the way they do it you know who would make a perfect Goku? Chris Pratt

Now I do think people suggest him for too many roles, but I think he's perfect for Goku. He's a good actor that can do drama and comedy, his voice is still kinda childish/youthful like Goku's is in the dub, and he's well liked.

As I said I don't think they should make it but if they do Pratt would be perfect for the lead

No it wouldn't. The motion capture style of Tintin is still not great for a lot of audiences. Plus where is the Tintin sequel? It's never happening. The movie did not do that well.

You are never going to see a live-action DBZ movie again.

way to keep the hope of the universe alive :(

There is a potential gold mine in this franchise for live action movies. They just need somebody to come along that respects the material and is a decent director. There's rich material here. Imagine a shared universe for this. The action scenes? The best ever put to film. Anime voice actor cameos? Yes please.

A live action movie would be ****ing awesome. Wachowskis are probably the only ones crazy enough to pull it off. An animated one would be pretty pointless imo. We already have the anime for that

Maybe with the recent resurgence in DBZ, a good live action flick will finally happen.

Chris Pratt? You want the film to get negative attention for white washing again? Anyway, i realy don't think the film has too start with the Sayian saga, too much bagage. Starting with the universal story of a boy who discovers the world for the first time and is helping Bulma on the quest to find the Dragon Balls is a much more fitting idea imao, this way, when you get to the DBZ storylines, you're actualy invested in the characters.

I mean if they're animated him similar to Tintin I dont think it matters at all.

The majority of the dub cast arent Japanese as far as I know. Some of them arent even male and they voice male characters.

I don't think he should be animated either, while i liked Tintin, i think Dragon Ball has potential in live-action. Saint Seiya also tried to go the CGI route and it failed miserably.

I think a CG movie using Toriyama's designs could actually work. A PG-13 action flick. And Pratt voicing Goku actually could work.

It's not going to work. People don't like the Tintin style for a CG animated movie. Tintin only made $77 million domestic anyway.

I just don't get why you would spend $200 million on a CG animated Dragon Ball Z movie and cast Chris Pratt as Goku. That's pointless.

Resurrection F costs $5 million.

It's not going to happen folks.

Also, when was the last time we saw a PG-13 CG animated action oriented film? I recall that God awful Final Fantasy movie. That was a box office disappointment. So was Beowulf. Both those movies were PG-13.
