is it just me or do you find yourself not really caring about posting in the majority of topic on here any more.

personally i used to average around 20 to 30 posts a day on the hype, now i'll read the topics but usually can't be arsed adding my own input to them.

i really don't know what it is, i can't put a finger on a reason.

It's called growing up. Hopefully as you get a little older and a little wiser wasting your time online seems less fulfilling and you want to move on. I used to post crazy amounts a years ago. Now I am hardly ever on here, computer games hold almost no power over me any more.

I traveled around Earth and had a real good time in the real world. Last month I got married in Jamaica on a beach. That was better that any of this stuff.

DO not get me wrong the hype is still cool. But I am too old for this sh***

The reason I am on here now again is that work is slow as it is Christmas and I have the time to kill.

well everything you said is kinda obvious, in no way am i saying online life should be more interesting that real life, if you believe that then you have quite a few problems.

but you do bring up something of a point, but again it depends on the person, much like yourself i'm in my mid twentys(26) and i don't seem to spend as much time farting about online as i did in my teens, i still play computer games, but i've been focusing on my photography a lot more.

there just doesn't seem to be as much here to hold my attention as there used to be, some things just pickle my head i mean you said you got married and your only 24, i know a bunch of people i went to school with now have kids and such, and i just sit and think there is no way i could do that stuff at my age.

i really don't know what brought this all on

Yes it is very obvious to most people.

There is very little now that will hold my focus on here. Teen life was easier as it was all about the movies and tv and games. That is all that mattered as a young teen.

Pickles your head? I understand where you are coming from I think. How can one marry at 24 and call it good. I guess some people may view that as kinda early these days and a bit old fashioned however my wife is 26 and me being 24 it does not feel incorrect.

Kids never, not our thing. Most people do have the wrong idea about marriage these days. In the USA I find that very true - high school is over and they marry their boy/girlfriend and have a kid.

My wife and I (I love saying that) got married (in Jamaica!!!) after living together for almost 3 and a half years now. During that time we traveled over the USA and most of Europe. Given that she was born in Canada then moved to the USA then the UK by the age of 23 she was well matured and well traveled. Likewise with me I had been everywhere and now the USA is my second home. We will immigrate by the summer of 09 too so I can move from the UK to the USA. We get often gently teased by most of our friends single or not USA or English about how "in love" or "connected" we are and have been while they more or less go through their waiting period in life.

Again in todays world young marrige can seem odd. People want to wait for a long time thinking they are missing something bigger in life and that finding the right someone can be put off. With me it just happened and there she was. I have a better purpose in life now. I do not just wait for things to happen.

Anyway I am babbling on a bit - hope that clears the pickle on your head.

Would not change it for the world.

I think it has less to do with age than the rather circular nature of messageboard conversations, and the length of time you've been on a particular board.

We've had most of the conversations already, so they seem redundant, and less insteresting. The only real exception seems to be if you are involved in reading books that are being discussed - new issues of comics - (and even there there's a lot of the same discussion over and over).

In some respects it gets to the point where you can predict responses.

I guess but that could lead back into life in general. If you have been around the block anough times many things start to look and feel the same.

I don't go into the boards for the movies as much as I used to anymore. When I'm on here, I mostly stick to community, community games, or my fan fic. I'll occassionally post something in like the Misc Marvel board or IM board, etc. But, it is fewer and far between now.

I also feel the need to go out and do stuff more than ever. Guess I'm actually craving a life now, lol.

I used to run around the game threads - you know the rate the avatar above you ones to boost the post count....wow what a waste of time that was.

You don't think there are people bored with their lives in general?

You're travelling, meeting people, moving around... so it wouldn't really apply to you. In my case, I haven't lived in the same place more than 22 months since I was 15 years old... so I don't get bored either, but if I lived in the same house, in the same town, going to the same places over and over for 5+ years... I'd be bored.

I mean, I've been a member of this board for nearly 7 years! I've had 5 different homes in that time.

LOL, now they don't help you though. Since they are in the diner. I stick to Survivor/Mole games now.

Same here. Once I moved to NY, I have't stayed in the same home more than 2 years. It is great in one way, but has hindered my social circle. I'm the kind of person that needs time to get to the point where I want to hang out with you, so I have few friends. I love moving around though. It is an odd cognitive dissonance for me.

Oh yeah it's not just online lives that can repeat themselves.

I have been on here for 3 years and had 2 homes.

So I also do not stay still for that long.

I guess if poeple do have lives that stagnate and they know it then it is up to them to refresh their own lives right.

i could care less for the endless speculation based on the absence of news. i remember doing that all the time on the batman and superman boards when there was nothing happening. now i cant stand that, and dont get it. i only want to talk about something if theres something to talk about. so yeah.....im less amused.

^ Wait, you could care less?

With regards to the OP: Yeah, I definitely feel that. I think it's only natural that after nearly 8 years (more like 7.5) you may have some diminished interest.

The thing is, the Hype! isn't as cool as it used to be. It's as simple as that, IMO. We had some REAL characters that used to come around here and post, and the restrictions were a bit less strenuous. It was a more tightly-knit community back then.

Now it's cluttered and mostly unfunny. :csad:

EDIT: Oldest user in here so far! W00t!

I don't think it has to do with the topics, there's always going to be repetitive issues being discussed but what's missing is the character

consider the photo album thread. you'd post with people on her for years and there would be a general interest to see what people looked liked. It was like seeing the faces of 50-60 mini celebrities and it brought a genuine buzz.

now most of the time in there, it's like 'who the hell are you' and they are probably saying teh same thing about me.

there's just far less variation in posting style of individuals. I used to tell who was who purely by the content and manner in which they posted.

saying this, while community has died, the rest of the hype ticks on although there are less people with genuine opinions about things that i'm interested in.

at this pace and with a lack of superhero films potentially on the horizon, this site won't have a leg to stand on because there isn't that fiery community spirit keeping quality posters around

I'm not so much sure if it is good posters are leaving or getting banned as much as it is us oldbies have been here for years, so we have more nostalgia for the way things were. Things on here are changing, many get upset. Plus, being on here years ago, you had a certain relationship with many posters on here who are now gone or post little. This also makes the site less appealing.

Like I said in my case, I used to love being in the same discussions over and over again. Anymore though, once I've said my peace when the news/movie is new, I'm done. I don't feel the need to restate my opinion countless times anymore. Now I just kind of hang out in this area and do my fan fic.

After 5-7 years, things change for everyone. Just the way it is. All the newbs on the site right now will reach where we are now in a few years. It is a cycle that won't end (until this site is gone, but if comic movies keep being made and are successful, not happening anytime soon).

Yes. I spend most of my Hype time in PM or just reading threads now-a-days. Sometimes a good debate can suck me in, but not as often as it used to. I think a big problem is quality of posters. I'm sure you remember ultimate_evil, back in the day posters were actually decent to talk to. We had classy posters like Cyclops, and Green Goblin, and the list goes on. Then the post-Spider-Man crowd came and pretty much went out of their way to be the internet cool kids and act like dick heads. Posters like Brodie and Toven. Unfortunately, this trend has yet to go away so instead of posters simply being civil to one another, we have a very vocal minority of ass holes bogging down the conversation by intentionally trying to be pricks. It kills discussion quickly, in my opinion. I think it is common on message boards these size, however. When we had the small population of 2000-early 2002, we were a community. Once the Hype exploded, it became a bunch of attention ****es competing to see who could get the most.

Well said.

the thing is i've been through a few waves of friends on here because the site used to attract characters. People left or were banned, others came in to fill their boots.

but its dried up a lil. The real test of the site is how active it is when there's no superhero news. If the quality topics and quality posters are there to bounce off of, you don't even notice it. When they are gone the place ****ing drags...

i dare say a thread entirely based on a stupid picture or an outdated phrase would not last a page and ahalf in todays 'economic climate'.

Yep, things have certainly changed in my posting, life and on the Hype. Oh, wait...am I considered an oldbie? I know you guys have strict regs on that.

if everyone always assumes it was best when they first joined, when the hell was it actually best?

was there a fantastic time when there were like only 3 people and pornography and violence was allowed, a time without official moderation...

See, I disagree. I don't think that the Hype! is suffering right now from attention ****es or ********s. It's just downright boring. Most of the people who post here now seem radically vanilla, and "********s" or not, the old posters you're bashing, who are mostly banned anyway, brought an edge and a life to these boards. They'd post witty tirades and make threads like "Clones Have NO SOULS!!!" hilarious. There is none of that hilarity now.

In fact, I'd say that right now the Hype! is suffering less from an ABUNDANCE of *******s... and more from a LACK of content.

I don't want to say that the old Hype!, where it was just a downright hostile environment for everyone, was great or anything, but it seems like the Hype! right now has decided to pad all its corners to avoid certain people losing eyes:huh:

2000 to early 2002 was the best. There were moderators but they let a lot slide because it was a small amount of posters who mostly moderated themselves.
