And the one dying is.... (SPOILERS!)

Im 95% sure Lionel is a goner, just based on the description.

As for the killer...
Neither Lex nor Lana would be a surprise to me.
Clark would be absurd.
Chloe is plausable. I could see it happening.
Lois is a possibility.
Jimmy would just be hilarious. It would probably be a stupid accident.
Kara's a maybe. I dont see how, in the future, Clark would let her, a killer, take the name of Supergirl, though.

maybe the killer is Lionel himself. Suicide!

maybe the killer is Lionel himself. Suicide!

Hmmm... actually I wouldn't be surprised if he sacrificed himself to help Clark or someone else for some reason....

It is about time for Lionel to go, though, right? I mean, his death has kind of been pre-determined since early on, am I right? And with this being the second to last season (though, Lord only knows, they probably would try and bring it back for 9 if the ratings were, at the very least, decent), and Lex's screentime possibly significantly lessened next year, it's time for daddy Luthor to go, yeah?

Zorex, how could you seriously believe they're going to have a S9? Tom Welling is over 30, he's starting to show his age to keep playing a 21-22 year old, besides, the actors want to move on and TPTB have said S8 would be the last:

GOUGH: We feel really good about next season and I think we have eight seasons worth of stories to tell, but in the middle of next season, November, when we’re in episode 10 or 11. We have to know. Is there going to be eight, or are we done? Because if we’re done, we have to know, we have to start the launch sequence to end it.

edit:
erm, nevermind me. i need to learn to read before posting.

It's bound to be Lionel, but I'm unsure who will kill him. This will no doubt be the event which culminates in Lex leaving Smallville to take sole control of Lexcorp with no further involvement from Lionel.

I wonder if there will be some manifestation of Jor-El which does it? Would be very fitting to have the opposing fathers of two opposing sons squaring off - and for obvious reasons they can't really bring Jonathan back. With all of Jor-El's fortress mumbo jumbo I'm sure they can find some way to put him in a temporary body.

Gaz

I believe that what Ausiello meant by "shocking" refers to the act itself, rather than the identity of the killer.

It might be expected if Lex kills Lionel but a son killing his father is always "shocking".

So looking in here i can see the general idea os that it's Lionel (No idea when he first appeared in Superman in any form).

The killer..... I think it could be Braniac(What reason has he got to kill him?).......... What if it's Green Arrow? (GA kicking Lionels bucket would be quite a shock to me).

That being said after seeing the shot of Lex looking out a hole in the office window i suspect is going to be the obvious suspect.

Lex smashes Lionel's feet with a sledgehammer, then tasers him, then kicks him in the crotch, then yanks his armpitt hairs out, then hits him over the head with gigantic bag of legos, then makes him eat old moldy sushi, and then shoots him in the chest. :)

Craig from Ksite posted this on another forum:

"Re: Ausiello... I don't think whoever the killer will be, will be shocking. So don't get your hopes up on that. It'll still make for good TV, though."

So I'm guessing lex kills lionel.

Lex seems like the most logical choice to kill Lionel

Maybe Lana kills Lionel and is sent to jail. That would explain her absence on the final episodes.

Maybe she was aiming for Lex, to protect Clark, but it's Lionel who dies protecting his son.

But I DO wish it's Lex who kills Lionel. It would make the most sense. :yay:

How can Lana kill Lionel in episode 'Descent' when she isn't in any episode after Veritas? Seriously guys...no offense to anyone but use your heads. It's been plainly stated by KK herself that she won't be in anything after Veritas.

There is a reason for Lana's absence after Veritas. Not saying it's a good one but there is one.
