And the one dying is.... (SPOILERS!)

Okay, I guess its obvious it will be Lionel now.

They probably extended JG's contract for 8 hoping Rosenbaum would also continue.

When they realized MR would be leaving, they probably wanted to tie up and end the Lex/Lionel thing this season.

Traveler made me feel like Lionel's chances are indeed high to die this season. It feels like we've reached a kind of peak (or new low?) for Lionel's "is he good or is he bad" characterization. Clark's counted him out (at last or again?), and maybe Lionel's true colours will be shown just in time for him to bite it. If he's good (which I think he is... mostly), maybe it'll be self-sacrifice for Clark. If he's bad, maybe it'll be death at the hands of (Lex?) which then spills all the nastiness he's kept hidden. Maybe a mixture of both. Maybe this is pointless conjecture.

Technically, hasn't EVERYONE from Season 1 been "presumed dead" before? That is, except Pete and Martha?

Lex, lost at sea, funeral held...
Clark, shot, flat-lined...
Lana, blown up...
Chloe, in a morgue with a toe-tag...
Lionel presumed drowned...

Although I do think it may be Lionel, reports of Glover being signed for next season are a bit confusing, if he's dying here...

Although I will HATE it, because I like Lionel and Lana, I think that a likely scenario is that she will end up killing him.

This whole season has been a ridiculous disappointment when it comes to Lana and Clark... I guess they feel like they HAVE to torpedo the relationship that they have been building to for 6 years, but can it be more stupid and contrived, the way they are doing it?!

I can't imagine this show without Lana, Lex and Lionel.... :(

But, that said... if they wanted to show nothing but Clark... doing ANYTHING... I'd watch. ;)

It's Lionel. Lex will kill him.

He's contracted for the final season...so even if it is Lionel, i'm pretty sure we'll be seeing him again.

Hence why i'm not really 'hyped' about who's gonna die...its just another stunt, IMO.

This is what I think:

Lana isnt around for the episode where Lionel dies. So it wont be her.
Where is Lana supposed to be?

But, if that's true...

A dramatic scene would be Lex trying to do something that would kill or seriously endanger Clark and his destinty... with Lionel sacrificing himself to save him. Lex seeing his father give up his life for Clark... I couldn't imagine anything that might push him over the edge more...

I would rather see Lex killing Lionel in cold blood with no remorse.

I said it once , I'll say it again Lionel a Dead Man . By hands of his Son Lex .

It wouldnt be very shocking... given he killed Patricia in cold blood with no remorse.

Way too predictable.

Way too predictable.

That's what some people on here said to me when I first said in the 7.14 - Traveler - Discussion Thread (Spoilers) (Way before The trailer & The Official Description for "Traveler" was even released . As soon as I read the spoiler) that the special built prison in which Pierce would keep Clark captive in would be THE GREEN KRYPTONITE CAGE .

Turns out I was dead on the money . Well I'm going to stick with my original statement that Lex is going to be the one to axe-off his Father once and for all . (This has been a long time in the making from since the beginning of the series .)

I'd be shocked if it turns out to be someone else .

Lex killing Lionel wouldn't be shocking to us, but it could be shocking to the general audience who don't read spoilers.

Umm it was obvious it was a Kryptonite cage... otherwise they'd never be able to restrain him.

It could be Lex killing Lionel but I just think that'd be such a predictable outcome.

Mike Ausello said the identity of the killer would be shocking; I hope he's right.

The problem with Lionel being the one to die is that it has been confirmed that John Glover will return next season & unless they are lying (which is highly possible) my prediction is Chloe is the one that is going to die. Remember she was confirmed to be in the comics countless times only to finally be confirmed to not be coming to the comics & Allison Mack is the only one that we have not heard about returning in Season 8 probably to hide the fact that she is dying & the fans will obviously guess that it is Lionel. The obvious death is Lionel but the surprising death will more then likely be Chloe. Clark will probably die in his "final battle" with Braniac & Chloe will heal Clark taking her own life (unknowingly of course). I would imagine it is different between healing a human & an alien

I think it may be Lionel that dies but the real shock value would be Clark doing the killing...

He gets annoyed with Lionels lies too much or finds out that Lionel is the cause of Jonathan's heart attack.

Get 'im Supes.

Yeah, because we want to see clark killing people before he's even superman with hsi 'no killing' credo /rolleyes

yeah but you'll find batman is more of the no killing...absolutely against it...Superman is more of a last resort killing person.

I think when angered enough (much like the episode 'Vengence' in season 5) he would snap....He's killed a few people in smallville....not on purpose but he has...and in Vengence he nearly snapped that guys neck just for stealing his dads watch...how do you think he'd cope if he found out who the guy responsible for his fathers was?

My money is on that he would kill them....

Mike Ausello said the identity of the killer would be shocking; I hope he's right.

Ausiello exaggerated a bit, Craig (webmaster of K-Site) said it won't be shocking at all, that means Lex will kill Lionel. Also, there is a screencap from a trailer that shows Lex looking down at "something" from a broken window that seems from Lionel's office, go to K-Site and look for this:
