Seriously, Annihilation ruled. Although, if I did have to complain about something, it'd be that Quasar, Stardust, and Firelord got royally owned. All of the characters I actually liked kept getting their asses handed to them. That was depressing. But Phyla made up for it at least a little in Quasar's case. Time will tell if the upcoming Heralds one-shots will make up for it in the latter two's cases. I hope so.

Over at CBR Forums there was a lot of active campaigning to keep Wendell as Quasar. Aniscape led the way followed by others. Unfortunately after everyone read Annihilation #6 it wasn't exactly the result the 'quasophiles' hoped for. Andy Schmidt was kind enough to take time out of his schedule to answer and respond to posters. The general consensus was that they liked Nova and Gamora. The artwork was great. The showdown with Galactus was classic. Everyone was ticked about Phyla being the new Quasar. Moondragon held interest as a support character. And someone had a new poll asking who would read the new Quasar limited series. I don't know, its tough substituting the same character with someone else. The one good thing is that the cosmic part of Marvel seems to be back on the map.

If by "back on the map" you mean "still largely unknown by the general public," sure. Annihilation came and went with a whimper in the mainstream, despite the fact that it's about a thousand times better than CW. It's sad, but at least some more comics are being made to follow it up. I hope the sales can show Marvel that their fanbase would appreciate more cosmic stories.

As for Phyla as the new Quasar, I can see where the anger comes from (beyond the blind hatred of the character simply because she's not Wendell, I mean). It's kind of diminishing two legacies, really, by sending the message that Phyla couldn't cut it as Captain Marvel, so now she's relegated to taking over for Quasar, a.k.a. "that other Captain Marvel." But I like Phyla and I think the Quantum Bands have loads of potential, so I'd be willing to at least give her a shot. The right creative team could make it work.

I definitely would be interested in seeing a Phyla mini. Don't know who I'd want to see scribing said mini though. Maybe her creator PAD?

Either way, I'm very interested in this upcoming Heralds mini. Can't wait to see Terrax whooping some ass after what happened to him in Annihilation.

Actually, this is the most I've been interested in Phyla. I always felt she was a forced gimmick.
