Another Fatal Shooting in a movie theater

So sad to hear of this. Nothing will change in America's (lack of) gun control, however.

Guns are part of the world. If we didn't have guns we'd use knives, spears and axes.

Drugs are a bit different as many are just plants used in different ways. Guns we make ourselves.

That's only somewhat true. Melee weapons are more personal and takes a slightly different mindset to use...also, it's harder to kill as many people with a melee weapon. Where as a gun is very impersonal, easier to use and kills in larger amounts.

Study after study shows violent death drops when gun control is in place.

Countries that have gun control laws have far less violence. That should be proof enough. But it won't be enough...because americans prefer their guns over human lives.

I should point out that enforcement is just as important as the laws themselves. Perhaps more important still is the broad cultural acceptance of the law. Gun control would be useless if enacted against the widespread resentment of ordinary Americans, many of whom already own guns. Sadly, I think Americans at large are incapable of being persuaded on this issue. If neither Columbine nor Sandy Hook provided a sufficient reappraisal of the status quo, I doubt anything will.

It´s insane you can´t go anywhere now, without feeling 100% safe.

Yeah elementary school, churches and movie theaters used to be places where families could feel safe.

Now a few idiots are destroying that feeling of security we had in these communal places.

And recruitment centers.

So apparently a teacher pulled the fire alarm during the shooting after being shot herself and possibly saved dozens of lives.

What a hero this woman is.

Yes and she was saved by a friend , fellow teacher who took a bullet meant for her .
Both of them survived .

Yeah, it's impossible, because someone like me, who has access to a full operating machine shop, and a local Home Depot, can easily make my own guns and ammo, regardless if the law wants me to or not. Law wants me to drive no faster than 55 on the highway, but guess what, I don't care, and will go 80!

When are we going to wise up in the U.S and take action about gun laws and mental health? Despite what gun toting folks think, it's WAY to easy for mental unstable people to get their hands on guns. That statement is proven by all these shootings 2012 Colorado shooting, sandy hook, Virginia tech, the shooting in South Carolina, and the list goes on. So we need stricter gun laws like it or not. Also, we need to raise more awareness about mental health and mental illness among people we know or are aware of. How many more times does this need to happen before we actually do something? Schools, movie theaters, churches, malls, military bases, work places have all been hit. The sad thing is what will be the next location for these shootings? SMH

Agreed 110%.

I always see the argument "Guns don't kill people... people don't kill people!"

Well, guns make it a whole lot easier to kill someone and inevitably increase the death toll. Simple as that at the end of the day.

I wish there was an unbiased investigation that shows exactly what gun law would've prevented this recent spur of mass shootings.

Were most of these guns legally acquired? If so, what background check requirement was missing that allowed these killers to legally acquire a gun?

I want to know the specific gun control measure that would've prevented these shootings outside of banning guns.

As long as we take care of both issues at the same time.
I don't have a problem with it .

I'm not going to get involved in an unending debate on gun rights. No matter what is said someone is going to take it and run away with a wildly different interpetation to what I actually said.

Instead I will suggest anyone interested should look up the Cracked.com article on the NRA and how it has nothing to do with gun ownership and everything to do with gun makers pushing some of the most outlandish and irresponsible gun laws in the country.

If we had no guns, we would be talking about mass bombings.

There are some weird gun laws out there, no question about it .

Problem is too many Americans are too concerned about their "rights" and the 2nd Amendment... which is over a century old. Sorry, but times change, you don't need to have the right to bare arms anymore. This isn't the frontier, this is supposed to be a civilized first world country.

And this whole bollox about a civilian militia? **** off. What good is a few civvies with limited training going to do if the US government does go rogue?

I agree with this.

Seeing these topics all the time are starting to make me numb to the issues hand. I'm not trying to sound cold, but like people have always been killing each other. Since the beginning of time. This isn't really news to someone like me... Take away guns, people will find a way. Or.. just use guns because killers aren't really concerned with the law. I'm probably sounding like a terrible person, but I don't know what people expect to do by creating topic after topic about gun shootings.
