The Dark Knight another New heath ledger interview

Ledger seems kind of arrogant to me.

I mean, I have faith in Nolan and Co. and I think he'll give a good performance but something about the guy rubs me the wrong way. Personality wise that is, but I think it has to do with him reminding me of some kids I knew and hated from school.

A rich, handsome, famous actor. Arrogant? No way! :whatever:

Um Nolan mentioned TKJ as a basis for the Joker months ago. Why's everyone like 'Yaaay' you knew this already no?

Yeah he comes of a bit swarmy and nooty. But this may be a good thing.

One of the things that some people are worried about in Ledger Performance is that he'll be like Nicholson with an over the top but "likable" crazed clown.

However, I'm hoping for a different direction for Ledger's Joker in that he will be someone the audience will "hate" and would love for Batman to beat the crap out of him, almost how Cillian Murphy portrayed Johnathan Crane in 'Begins".

And who didn't enjoy it when Batman sprayed his own fear toxin back into his face. :yay:

Heath' arrogant, snooty attitude already have rub some people the wrong way, maybe this will help us to dislike him as the Joker, not is the sense of a bad performance, but a genuine character we'll love to hate.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. And besides having no idea what swarmy and nooty mean I agree with you.

It's weird though, I've read about alot of people detesting his attitude.

Not including here, or comic fans, but just your average person.

Iam sure that after the movie is released there will be this huge division between the ones that prefer nicholson's joker and the ones who like ledger's joker more.I can already hear it, "Oh no nicholson was more charismatic and suave as joker, this ledger joker is a damn sick son of a ***** and he has no style like jack did" "You gotta be kidding me ledger's joker kick's ass he's darker, crazier and he doesn't mess around throwing one liners like nicholson did, this joker just kills you straight up"

Nah nicholson's better you idiot"

No ledger's joker is better and it stays that way"

I meant SWARMY and SNOOTY (I'm typing under the tryanny of being at work) :woot:

Every time this comes up all I can wonder is why the hell Heath's off screen persona even matters. He's an actor. He won't be playing himself in TDK.

But then, I'm a fan, so maybe I'm just biased. ;)

EDIT:

Mmm, apparently he won't actually start filming till the middle of next year. Supports the idea that the Joker might not show up till late on.

I recently got the chance to talk with Heath Ledger at a press roundtable for the movie Candy. While on the hot seat I got the chance to grill Ledger about his upcoming role of The Joker in The Dark Knight.

Daniel Robert Epstein: Have you started to think about how you will play The Joker?

Heath Ledger: Yeah. I’ve been trying to delay my commitment to the preparation process on that because I’m trying to extend my holiday time. I definitely have an image in my head. I definitely have something up my sleeve. I want to be very sinister. It’s so early that I’m trying to be open at this point. I don’t want to be glued down to anyone.

DRE: Have you read many Batman comics?

HL: No and I think that’s kind of helping me a little bit. I was never really a fan of comic books or comic book movies. I never despised them but I was never one to read them. I never sought out the films but I would sit down and enjoy them. So because of that I really feel that I’m not carrying much pressure.

DRE: Have they given or asked you to read certain comics?

HL: The Killing Joke was the one that was handed to me. I think it’s going to be the beginning of The Joker. I guess that book explains a little bit of where he’s from but not too much. From what I’ve gathered, there isn’t a lot of information about The Joker and it’s left that way.

DRE: Is doing the role of The Joker scary after Jack Nicholson did it so well?

HL: I’m not going for the same thing he went for. That would be stupid. It is also two very different directors with different styles. Tim Burton did a more fantastical kind of thing and Chris Nolan is doing nitty gritty handheld realism. I love what [Jack] did and that is part of why I want to do that role. I remember seeing it and thinking how much fun it would be to put on that mask and attempt to do something along those lines. But it would obviously be murder if I tried to imitate what he did.

DRE: They’re talking about bringing in the co-creator of The Joker, Jerry Robinson, as a consultant on The Dark Knight. I don’t know if it would be more of an honorary title.

HL: It probably is [laughs].

DRE: Have you ever wanted to do superhero movies before?

HL: Not really. With the tights and undies and the boots, I would just feel stupid and silly. I couldn’t pull it off and there are other people who can perfectly. But I just couldn’t take myself seriously. I feel like this is an opportunity to be in one and not do that. I just gravitated towards the villain role because I felt I had something to give to it. I instantly had an idea.

DRE: Have you done screen tests with The Joker makeup yet?

HL: No, but I did do 3-D image scanning. I don’t know what they’re doing with it. This Bat truck turned up at my place in L.A.. It had these gadgets and cameras that zoom around you and up and down you. It instantly projects a three dimensional image of you. I’ve never used anything that high tech before in a film. I felt like I was in the truck from Knight Rider.

Intresting

Am I the only one who didn't like that?

when they film his scenes doesn't have anything to do with when the scenes appear in the film.

I do think that they'll augment HEath's fae with the CGI.
Nolan isn't completely Anti-CGI. I mean if that were the case , wouldn't he also NOT have approved of the CGI miniature shots ? .
I mean the full scale shots of the train in BB , there's some CGI involved in there.

It all comes down to how a particualr scene works. If it doesn't require CGI , then it doesn't require CGI. It's that simple. Nolan understands that. In the end it's the story that determines how/when CGI is used , not the other way around.

Anyways going back to the topic. You guys might also remember that ILM ( i think) did augment Ralph Fiennes'face in the last Harry Potter movie. There were no masks involved , just some CGI removal.

Same thing might happen in TDK. The performance is kept the same , but the face is changed slightly tomake it even creepier
