I had to think of a movie with a whole lot penis and that won the contest.
socko you see more penis on a daily basis...I can think of a better one.
I didn't find it preachy at all, actually. Some nudity and one (just one..) same-sex scene, but I found the movie to be more observant in these guy's lives rather than trying to send any kind of message. We didn't have to be told how devastating the story was. Nobody had a speech about how gay men should be able to do this and that.
But, it's your interpretation of the work. I personally found it quietly powerful. I think he asked the question cause he was surprised it brought out a fairly strong reaction from you.
...Now I kinda wonder if my aunt/uncle/cousins saw it. They're pretty conservative and "ewwww teh gay!" but they dragged me to see The Hulk to "support Ang Lee." LOLs. I can be pretty assured they didn't see Lust, Caution....![]()
I seriouly didn't think the movie itself was offensive in anyway. My main issue were the people supporting just carried this attitude that all those who didn't appreciate it were ignorant and intolerant and they were sent here with this film to enlighten us.

Wow, amazin how Heath succeeded in changing public opinion! Those who hardly criticized him must have a shame feeling those days... lol
seriously those smug *******s.. reminds me of those guys that go
"I'M GAY AND IM IN A WORLD THAT IS AGAINST ME" vs the guy who says "oh ya.. i'm gay so what?"
Its only a big deal when you make a big deal about it
I don't know why people keep talking about Crispin Glover. The guy can't act. He plays the same character in every role; a skinny, deranged guy. And he does look like a psycho, but that's about it. Ledger has the talent, and charisma; he's a heavy weight. He doesn't just run around acting like a lunatic; he's smart. Glover has no where near the chops that Ledger has. There's a reason why Glover is getting very little work....he sucks! Lets take a look at the movies he's been in, that i've seen: "Like Mike", Charlies Angels, and that's it. Those are crap movies for a crap actor.

Except the smug *******s behind brokeback mountain were often heterosexual women.
she wants to tell people she made a difference. She wants to glory of being that one person who brought attention to it, but really in our society it is slowly becoming acceptable. But at a snails pace.

Hah yeah. I'm pretty tolerant of people in general (I've even softened up to my extremely OCD housemate) but there's a point where you just have to go, "You know what? Just...shut up please."Fair point.
Bottom line: I have a few gay friends who were just OUTRAGED at me and chewed my ass out up and down because I was not "moved" by the film as it represented their "plight" and that I was a selfish, insensitive bastard because of it...and this went on for a LONG time 'til I told them to buzz off.
Plight? WTF?
Sorry if I seem harsh, I don't like people thrusting that kind of attitude on me...it's nothing personal to anyone here.
"Life has such possibilities, and from lack of courage or weariness or outright fear we allow it to shrink us into this small, sad space doing this small, sad thing."
I agree, I think it is very overrated and so boring. I wanted at least there to be something crazy like them show a murder or they find out their son is gay and so no and beat him up or something sheesh..throw an alien and robot in that movie it would be awesomebrockback was boring as a movie thats enough for me.
Ahhhhhh.....a loaded question.
I love these, so...so...entertaining, if I may be permitted as small bon mot.
If you want to do a movie about gay men and whatnot, fine & dandy.
HOWEVER:
1. I really do not want to see Ledger's - or whomever it was - schlong hanging out in the first ten minutes or so of the movie.
2. Graphic gay sex scenes of that nature verge on porn...true, Hollywood is loaded with sex sex and more sex nowadays and I don't care for sex scenes, period.
(...and this got an Oscar nod? There were FAR more deserving films that year.)
That is for your bedroom, OK? Call me a prude to your heart's content.
I am not anti-gay, but, I really do not like being preached at - in this case nearly force-fed - agendas or propaganda.
All this crap about the film being a "sensitive, beautiful story"? Forget it.
Not my cup of tea, thank you very much.
If that offends you, well...sorry about your luck.
Now, my turn:
...why did you ask me such an curious question?
seriously those smug *******s.. reminds me of those guys that go

I have been at the end of racism sexist remarks and dressing in an eccentric manner doesn't help either. I have never fell into groups between the two races that I am because I am a "sell out" and white people never liked me. I know what its like to be a social stigma. Homosexuality can be hidden, you can't hide how you look.Well you are aware that we're living in a world that DOES make a big deal about people being gay right? It's easy to say gay people have a persecution complex when you've never been on the receiving end of homophobia. A little empathy goes a long way.
