Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and the Wasp - Box Office Discussion

Oh....my daughter and I just got back from watching ANT-MAN AND THE WASP again.....still a hilariously fun afternoon.

In my viewing of AM&TW, a father brought his daughter, she was maybe 4 or 5, they were seated next to me and she was laughing, clapping and cheering at just about everything on the screen. This little girl had an absolute blast and seemed completely unconcerned about villain problems or continuity and plot holes, and reminded me of why we all fell in love with movies in the first place. Sometimes I wish we with ultra critical eyes would just enjoy stuff.

It actually fell below 76 million with the actuals. Damn and Disney is very conservative when it comes to estimates so the movie seriously underperformed. I expect terrible legs for it and a very similar take with the first film. What a debacle....

It’s so far estimated to make a $100m profit or more, with a ROI of over 20%......can I have a debacle too please?

A couple of years ago she started a **** storm on here when she accused another big name youtube guy of being a Marvel stooge being paid off by them because he had said something bad about some part of BvS.....it apparently had missed her perception that he had loved BvS, was constantly talking about how much he loved BvS....but had just complained about one part of it. I had had to watch several videos by each so that I could figure out what everyone was spazzing out about. Basically....I figured she was a complete idiot that didn't deserve to be watched.

Yeah John Campea. His video about her was absolutely epic. I watch her videos occasionally, but most of the time she just annoys me. She's a fake social justice warrior and tries to take it to the extreme all the time

While some of her rewievs are the type I can agree on, some of her takes are just WAAAAYYY out there. Like the Deadpool needing to be PG-13 and Ant-Man needing to be bigger. She doesn't seem to get all characters. Since she puts points on a list on her videos, you can figure out from them if you want to go on and watch the video.

Amen. FWIW I took my daughter, who’s 20, and both of us were laughing, clapping and cheering. I’m sure we annoyed some folks but life’s too short, y’know? It’s a movie about people in funny costumes who change sizes and talk to bugs. Become one with your inner Calvin & Hobbes, it’s your only choice (#tyrannosaursinf14s)!

Just hope more people are aware this time that movies have bigger 2nd weekend drops in July with schools out of session, and that the bigger weekdays make up for that.

This caused a lot of unnecessary doom and gloom about Spider-Man: Homecoming's 2nd weekend drop last year, lol.

Went again (this time with my wife ..... the 1st time i went alone during work lunch) and she absolutely loved it. She even mention that it was more fun than IW.......

So its a good flick to bring your gfs & wives i guess......

Lets do our part for the 2nd weekend drop to less than 50%...

I don't know, that skyscraper and hotel Transylvania look mighty tempting.

:o

Ant-Man, an original movie, opened to 57M around the same time of the year, had higher Cinema Score and RT audience score, dropped 57% in the 2nd weekend.

So if AMatW drops 60% this week I hope there's no panic.

And I think if AMatW matched Ant-Man's admission then Marvel Studio will fork out 150M to finish the trilogy (or go the Thor route).

Just for the record, domestic second weekend drops for Marvels other summer (June-August) releases:

GotG 55.3%
AM 56.5%
TIH 60.1%
CA:TFA 60.7%
SMH 62.2%

So yeah, a 60%-ish drop seems likely.

Oh man you are right the SMH thing got out of control last Summer

Another terrible number. Damn the U.S is flat out rejecting this film, passing the first one will be extremely hard.

You are panicking way too much, dude.

You are saying the US is rejecting the film, saying it basically bombed in another post, etc. Gross overreactions. The movie is going to make a fine profit for Marvel, even if the gross in the US ends up similar to Ant-Man's. It has not even debuted in like, half of its markets yet.

Yup. Per Mendelson:

When your smallest series is still earning over/under $175 million domestic and $500m-$600m worldwide, that's not exactly cause for panic and reactionary decisions.

Yup. Per Mendelson:

Correct. This movie had the budget of a phase 1 movie, and will gross more than any phase 1 movie that didn't have Iron Man in it. It's fine.

Pretty much. No reason to run around claiming the sky is falling for Marvel. If a movie with a giant budget like Infinity War was performing this way, then that would be a cause for concern.

This still has like, a chunk of Europe and China to be released in doesn’t it?

I don’t see the concern.
