Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and the Wasp - Box Office Discussion

Has it turned a profit yet? What if, and humor me on this, it does not turn a profit? Or at least makes less than "Ant-Man" domestically and worldwide? Would Marvel Studios still want to make an Ant-Man 3? Would it really be such a bad thing if we never get an Ant-Man 3?
It will turn a profit and we will have to wait until September to see exactly what it’s worldwide b.o gross will be.

Other than that the film is a major disappointment in the U.S , no way to sugarcoat it. Just like I wrote it didn’t click with families the way it was supposed to hence it’s very low box office numbers. If something like jumanji can do ganbusters in the u.s I don’t see why ant man couldn’t if families warmed up to the concept of the film.

I honestly see dark days for CBM in general after infinity war 2 is released, that movie will signal the end of an era. Anyway I am happy with what we got anyway.

Worldwide numbers are going to be even worse thank to that month of delay. Hell I wanted to see it but I kinda don't want to anymore and will just wait for nice copy on home release

The hype dies a bit with such a delay. Don’t know why they didn’t just release it later in the year after the World Cup was done.

I think the Domestic numbers will be something like 205-210 mil.

Its gonna be at 135 mil by the end of Sunday.

No way its not making an extra 65 mil for the rest of its run.

OS its hard to tell with that BS marketing-scheduling.

You're still at this? :funny:

Dark days ahead. Simply terrifying.

Still at what exactly ? The movie is seriously underperforming in the U.S , sorry that ******** fanboys such as yourself don’t want to admit it.
Even if its domestic performance may be a bit underwhelming to some, it's far from a flop. The domestic run is probably well described by "eh, it's ok" instead of the "wow that's really good/great" that we're used to seeing from the MCU.

You keep repeating yourself and overstating things, acting like this is some kind of disaster... It's not. It's doing fine.

Deadline’s estimate now $28.1 million, so no jigs, I guess.

Official Friday estimate is $8,407,000.

The same Saturday-Sunday increases/drops as Homecoming and the first Ant-Man gives it a range of $27.27-28.87M for the weekend. Deadline's estimate is right in the middle of that range.

Seriously underperforming? lol trolls are funny.

This looks to be in the Thor 2 range, we'll get our threequel in Phase 4.

the movie has a budget on the low end 162mill so i would say underperforming it will still turn a profit

I think you cracked their code on this one. I suspect Homecoming will prove a better guide; the first Ant-Man was ridiculously leggy, doubt that happens again.

Not yet.

The studio will move on.

Or at least makes less than "Ant-Man" domestically and worldwide?

The studio will still move on.

Would Marvel Studios still want to make an Ant-Man 3?

They might not be excited for it, but they will likely do it nevertheless.

No it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Actually in the first couple of weeks SMH performed very similar to Ant-Man to the point that I made the "Is Peter Scott's clone?" joke.

Considering the film hasn't even opened in some major markets and it's performed well in the countries it did open in, I'd say it's highly unlikely this film doesn't turn a profit for Marvel. All this chicken-littling and gloom-and-doom from the same couple of posters is just tiresome and lacks the gradation of what a constitutes success.

i feel like Mission Impossible might be a big hurdle for it. It's getting more critical acclaim than I expected. One guy called it the next Fury Road. I'm guessing Marvel might have taken competition account but MI might be a variable.

Yeah, it apparently had a good opening in India.

Unlikely to be a big market — the first one did just $1.6 million — but positive news nonetheless.

Deadline gave Ant-Man and the Wasp an estimated $162 million production cost. And that's Deadline. That means the sequel is somewhere in that ballpark.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can't hit a homerun every time you are at bat.

People have short memories but in 2008, The Incredible Hulk didn't do all that well. It was basically a box office disappointment. Not an out and out bomb, but it didn't do great business for Marvel. The reviews and box office weren't bad enough to tank the MCU.

I would venture to say that AMATW will beat Thor 2 as it will have smaller day to day drops...it’s a better film than Thor2 and it is looking to hold more screens in the next two months due to less stiff competition

I think we all knew Ant-Man and the Wasp wasn't gonna do gangbusters at the box office. It might be performing a little less than what Marvel expected/hoped for, but it still hasn't opened in the UK among other places.

This time of year is a big vacation time for families so that could be a factor as well.

When it's all said and done I'd bet it grosses more than the first one and we get a third film in 2021.
