Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and the Wasp - Box Office Discussion

Enjoyed this one! Just like the first one, it's highly re-watchable and I'm sure there's plenty of aspects that can be missed the first go around.
700-750 is my guess.

Hopefully it can squeak by the $100M OW mark.

Great! Can’t believe it’s opening bigger than Spidey in HK.

Ant-Man is surprisingly popular in Asia apparently which is why Marvel has had the cast out really promoting the sequel over there.

I'm rooting for it so much! Finally a female co-lead and I just adore the characters and actors here

$11.5 million Thursday per Disney. That likely sinks hopes of 100+ but is still a great result.

If it gets the same preview to opening day ratio and internal multiplier as Spider-Man: Homecoming, that Thursday number would lead to an opening day of $37.9M and an opening weekend of $87.4M.

I don’t think Disney would complain about that kind of start one bit.

Excellent! I always thought this would do at least as well as Doctor Strange. It's early, but it looks like CA:TWS might actually end up the better comparison.

CA:TWS ($95M OW) actually made quite a similar jump up from the original CA ($65M OW), so it would make sense that this sequel would follow that pattern.

Oh right, great to hear.

Can Ant-Man beat Logan?
Logan's opening weekend was $88,411,916.

80 plus is perfect for this film and an upward trend from AM1 I'll hold out hope for 90

Great number! So happy for Peyton Reed and the entire cast/crew :yay:.

Much like other MCU sequels it will make more than its predecessor.

Hopefully the walk up business will push the OW to 100 mil. :fingers crossed:

I really liked it. also, as Walked out of my theater i overheard a couple say they wanted to see it several more times. The audience in general really reacted well to the film. Seems like another crowd pleaser.

Did you like it much more than the first film?

4TH UPDATE, Friday 11:44 PM: Overall a respectable opening for Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp this weekend with projections currently showing an $81.5M 3-day which is 42% higher than the original title’s $57.2M opening. In addition Wasp‘s ticket sales are besting the low-end of tracking’s $75M forecast.

This is a situation that every distribution boss craves: Having a sequel improve greatly upon the original’s opening weekend results, and increasingly this is only common with Marvel product.

We’ll see if Saturday pushes Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s weekend higher. Typically, most Marvel movies ease on a Saturday when compared to their Friday opening days which are further bulked by Thursday previews. Los Angeles is seeing 100-degree temperatures this weekend, with the San Fernando Valley suffering around 118 degrees. That heat wave is good for the box office, however rainy days are better so we’re told.

Boxoffice.com projected $82 million in its final tracking report, which now looks to be bang on, so props to them. With that kind of start it will have no problem besting the first film’s $180 million domestic total. Should easily clear 200.

Disappointing opening weekend. Really expected much better by it, seems that marvel should have made the whole franchise less kiddie-friendly since kids don’t seem to have embraced it and this has the usual marvel crowd to fall back in.

The sequel has a huge increase from the first movie, and it's getting stellar reviews. And you really think Marvel should make a serious movie out of a superhero named "Ant-Man"? Did you think GOTG should also be grounded with a talking raccoon and a walking tree too?
