some time ago it was said that New Line was working on a Y: The Last man movie.. writen by Brian K. Vaughan himself..

Any news on that?

(started thinking about it after i saw the "I Am Legend" trailer :P)

Vaughan said that Goyer was attached to it as a producer, and that Jeff Vintar was one of the screenwriters. That's it really.

Nothing's really happening with it that we know of.

Doesn't sound like there's much movement with it really.

New Line's tapped D.J. Caruso to helm and Carl Ellsworth to write the comicbook adaptation "Y: The Last Man" for producers Chris Bender, JC Spink, Mason Novick and David Goyer.

Project reteams Caruso and Ellsworth following their work for Par/DreamWorks on "Disturbia."

Story centers on a mysterious plague killing nearly all the world's male mammals overnight. A magician who's the only survivor among this group and his male pet monkey set out to find what may have wiped out the male chromosomes.

The comic "Y: The Last Man" was created by Pia Guerra and Brian K. Vaughn and published by Vertigo.

New Line-based Benderspink is also developing the adaptation of the comicbook "Power and Glory," the comedy "Mancation" and remaking the Spanish franchise "Torrente" for New Line.

Too bad they're not using Brian's script. Hopefully Carl Ellsworth is only doing some kind of rewrite.

I'm just so ready to see this film on screen, I don't care who's writing as long as it's good.

Yorick, baby!

I wouldn't be totally against that. It would certainly help the exposure. Him and the hot lesbian action.lol

Well I Am Legend is just a few months away.. while its a different plot its still a nice buildup to Y..
but i fear the general public is going to think Y is just a copy of I am Legend but with a monkey and women..

Yorick is more of an escape artist than magician. :csad:

Well, I don't think the movie is coming out anytime soon so LEGEND won't affect it.

Besides, the only monsters in Y's world is PMS!lol Legend seems closer to horror while Y will be a thriller/suspense like Children of Men.

I actually think Shia would be a good choice since Yorick isn't supposed to be an action hero and can be a screw up. Besides, he has a lot of comic timing that'd fit the role and in the comic, many people seem to be letdown when they find out a guy like Yorick is the last male. I think Shia brings that same kind of "letdown" since he's not the most likely person

Could Shia pull it off? Yeah.

Do I want him in the role? No.

And I don't know how I feel about Caruso and Ellsworth on the project. They already ****ed their 'interpretation' of Rear Window's to hell, they best not **** up Y.:cmad:

I have to agree with you except that I'm slightly more at ease with Ellsworth than Caruso because of Red Eye(The film, not that I or he actually have red eyes)

On one hand I'm glad to see they're actually moving along with this production, but no where did I see the keywords 'Brian K. Vaughan'.:cmad:

I thought he was writing the screenplay or whatever?

At this point, we can easily say that Shia LaBeouf will be Yorick.

It really is starting to look like it. I dunno...at least he seems like he'd be capable of pulling off Yorick's personality/dialogue. I'm still kinda hoping for an unknown.

what's so scary is, if done right, this could be one of those perfect movies that sets a mark in cinematic storytelling to inspire more original and intrinsic thinking....but if Fox made it, it'd suck like all of Marvel's 2nd Tier movies! :(

I don't think there's that much similarity between I Am Legend and Y: The Last Man. They're very different in tone, and one last normal man standing against vampiric mutations is very different to one last young guy being the only male in a world full of women reeling from the entire male population (bar one) dropping dead.

I would rather see "Y" as a TV show, perhaps on FX, HBO, or Showtime. It's far too large of a story to reduce to even a 3 hour movie.

Shia LaBeouf for Y: The Last Man?
Source: MTV
August 24, 2007

Disturbia director D.J. Caruso, who is reteaming with Shia LaBeouf (Indiana Jones 4) for the upcoming Eagle Eye, tells MTV he thinks the actor would work for his adaptation of Y: The Last Man:

"This is funny, but unbeknownst to me: Shia was already chasing this part prior to anything," Caruso said. "I haven't talked to him yet about it because he's off shooting 'Indiana Jones 4,' but Shia is the right type and the right personality because you want to have the humor, but you also want to have the seriousness. So we'll talk about it when we get there."

In a random sampling outside New York's Midtown Comics, fans told MTV News they could see Mark Ruffalo, Ryan Gosling and Tobey Maguire as good Yoricks. (Vaughan himself has no opinion, saying his "cop-out answer" is that the only Yorick he can imagine is the one on the page.)

I like Ryan Gosling for Yorick personally.

I'm just trying to think if I've seen him in some lighter fare, and I drew a blank.
