Any TMNT II news?

I thought TMNT was pretty good, I loved the fight between Raphael and Leonardo

The movie was okay, but I was expecting more. I really didn't care for the story that much. The fight scene between Ralph and Leo is the best part of the movie. Well, I think it is.

Agreed, I think TMNT at least opened the doors to get people interested again but yeah it could of been much better.
True.

Considering the PG rating, about 40 minutes being cut out, and the less then two year development time, TMNT came out as well as could be expected.:yay:

are those 40 minutes on the DVD, the storyline was blah, but the action and movemts of the turtles were very good and the humor was childish but funny.

According to Kevin Monroe, around a third of the deleted scenes made it onto the the dvd. On the dvd Monroe also mentions that at one point the movie was running at over two hours.

I bet you the movie would have been better if he would have left it, to bad kids have short attention span.

director's cut anyone? probably too late for that. but it could have been nice.

yeah, that would be an awesome idea, that and I hate the cover of the DVD, their original concept was better.

But WB is going to keep making TMNT movies aimed for little brats-- I mean Kids.

I don't think Ninja Turtles were meant to be taken seriously. The comics were a spoof of Frank Miller's work. So...there's gotta be some silliness in there somewhere.

I think the 1990 movie got it right. It was dark but silly at the same time.

There wasn't much silliness in the old comics, the original comics were a parody of the darker 80's superhero comics ,and other then having teenage mutant ninja turtles as protagonists, it was written in pretty much straight foward fashion.

The 1990 movie was a bit uneven imo, it was generally a silly movie made for fans of the old cartoon show, but would spike into a much darker movie as Eastman and Laird took several plotpoints from the comics and placed them into the movie (the death of Yoshi, having a turtle beaten into a near coma, Casey Jones), all things that would cause the movie to be rated PG-13 if it was released today.

Personally, I find the 1990 flick a film that catered more to the fans of the mirage comic books, than that of the fans of the 1980's cartoon series. Especially considering that there wasnt too many elements from the toon that made it into the film itself. Ultimately, despite the film being edgier, and having a unique style that was very much different from the style of the cartoon series, fans obviously ate it up. Which was expected I'm sure. With the TMNT franchise no doubt being in it's apex and all.

why must you hate :csad:

Critiquing a movie doesn't mean I hate it, overall I still consider the first live-action movie to be the best, but still not perfect (no movie is really).

Of all the TMNT movies, the first movie makes the biggest attempt to meld both the old cartoon and Mirage comics. There are plenty of elements of the old toon in the first movie, April is a reporter, for the most part the turtles are closer to the skate boarding, pizza loving, cowabunga spouting turtles from the cartoon, on the other hand, the movie throws in several elements from different Mirage story arcs, the Rapheal solo story, "Silent Partner", and "Return to New York".

Old cartoon fans who hate the new cartoon and movie for not being close to the cartoon (no Krang, Bebop, too serious,...ect), after all these years still love the 1990 movie.

I personally didnt find a good number of elements in the old toon in the 1990 film.

Theres the main title, and of course the April/Reporter aspect, but with the turtles themselves, I found them more or less much akin to the Mirage comics for the most part than that of the old toon. Especially Raph, who by far mirrored his Mirage comics counterpart than that of the often sarcastic, and lighter 80's toon version.
Inserting elements such as Pizza and what not makes alot of sense from a commercial standpoint (dominos in the film itself, pizza hut commercial on the VHS preceeding the movie even), but ultimately the 1990 film is a movie that makes a pretty damn good attempt to stay true to the original source and caters more to that version of the TMNT universe than what we would have otherwise got (and its something of a small miracle we didnt) with a live action version of the 80's toon.

Which more or less happened the very next year with 1991's "Secret of the Ooze". Despite Laird and Eastman not wanting the movie franchise to completely turn into a live action version of the toon. Hence the creation of Tokka and Razar.

There are plenty of sillier moments in the movie that mirror the tone of the old cartoon (not necessarily actual plots/characters), it's not really until Raph meets Casey that the movie begins to mirror the comic, especially considering the rest of the movie cannibalizes the comic for its story.

I felt the film illustrated how it would, in large part, deviate from the cartoon and become more in line with Mirage early on when Raph uttered his first, "Damn". But I will grant you that there are aspects that evoke the toon to some degree, just not to the extent of catering to that particular set of fans, IMO.
Which is why I previously stated it was something of a small miracle the film turned out as it did, considering what the majority of what fans were familiar with, and arguably even still, was the popular 80's toon.
