Infinity War "Apparently you alienated my favorite daughter" - The Zoe Saldana/Gamora thread

I know the Russo's said that Vision and Wanda were supposed the heart of this movie, but to me it honestly felt like the whole father-daughter relationship between Gamora and Thanos was the emotional center, especially considering how much screen time is dedicated to it.

I left the theater disappointed that we didn't get more Gamora and Thanos. I agree 100% they were the heart of the movie.

I said a little while back Gamora's role in Infinity War would be a breakout akin to Black Widow in Winter Soldier. I actually felt like Gamora was the main character for the first act of the film.

Definitely her best performance. I loved how she hates Thanos... but deep down she still sees him as her father. There was layers to their relationship. She helped make Thanos a great character.

I won't go so far as to say it's THE emotional center but damn if they didn't do great things with Gamora here and it enhanced everything around her. It enhanced Thanos it enhanced Star-Lord it enhanced the relationship with Nebula... My biggest issue is, having this meaty backstory to play with why is Gamora such an underutilized non-entity in the GUARDIANS films proper?

I imagine [BLACKOUT]lots of dream type sequences between Thanos and her will be taking place. Curious to see how they handle the soul stone stuff in the next one.

She was great, loved her and the Guardians in this.[BLACKOUT] Gamora added a ton of impact and emotion to the film and that led to some pretty heavy action decisions with Thanos and Quill. Wouldn't be the same movie without her. I also loved that Quill messing things up plays completely into his character. Starlord has very emotional and impulsive actions. He was immediate to shoot Ego in GOTG2 after hearing about his Mom, and seeing the change in his attitude here when he hears about Gamora just played into that side of him more. While a part of me didn't want him to interrupt keeping Thanos down, I wanted him to show his anger. Glad they put out on characters reactions and showing them make decisions like this. [/BLACKOUT]

Saldana was MVP. I was more blown away by her in this than in her 2 Guardians films.

Thought Zoe gave an amazing performance as Gamora in this, her best performance as the character to date, and personally I loved her in the previous movies.

She was one of the things that stood out for me and I couldnt believe how it all unfolded up until that shocking moment. I just...Wow...Gamora was one of my fave characters from GotG but like others have said...this was her best performance to date. Incredible!

Zoe has always been great in most of her roles. And as a former ballerina she's a great action star. I've noticed that former dancers/ballerinas such as Charlize Theron, Rebecca Ferguson, Emily Blunt, and Zoe excel in action roles.

would absolutely love a prequel movie on how Thanos trained her and nebula

the scenes with nebula and gamora in GOTG2 were well done too
when Nebula says all you ever wanted was to win and I just wanted a sister very powerful scene IMO

'Thanos, you need to sacrifice something you love'

Gamora will get where this is leading in one...two...three...

Nope?

Gamora will get where this is leading in four...five...six...

Nope?

Gamora will get where this is leading in seven...eight...nine...

Nope? Oh c'mon, Gamora!!!

I'm honestly surprised that didn't cross her mind once until it happened.

Yeah, she was pretty slow on that lol.

Agreed. I loved Zoe's performance and what her character added to Thanos'.

At first it surprised me too, but now i feel like she saw Thanos as so incapable of loving anyone or anything that it totally surprised her. She didn't feel that what Thanos felt could ever be love, like the line in the movie. It actually made my heart break for her death even more :csad:

I really enjoyed her more in this than in the 2 Guardians films. She def has been overlooked in the past.

Oh, I get it. It's just in this instance the audience is way ahead of Gamora and are waiting for her to catch up.

It makes that scene all the more heartbreaking and brutal, because the audience realises what Thanos is about to do, but Gamora has no idea. And when Red Skull says that the tears are not for him, Gamora's expression there is saddening to see. It all culminates in Gamora feeling powerless and betrayed, and despite her fighting prowess, she regresses into a frightened child in the way she beats Thanos. That whole scene is masterfully executed.

I think it's because on Gunn's list she is the least important of the characters for him. Basically it feels like she is just there to fulfill the female quotient (including the love interest part). We know Rocket is his fave. Quill is the main character. Groot and Drax are Twitter darlings but even Drax got shafted in GOTG2, even more than Gamora.

Gamora and Nebula was my fave part in GOTG2 and considering their next outing was going to be IW, that relationship should have gotten much more screen time than it did. It's not like the movie didn't have time for that. Cut down on the damn Ego exposition and less Rocket/Yondu/Groot. Get rid of the stupid Taserface scene, boom there is some extra time. Or Groot getting all the wrong items.

It seriously annoyed me that we finally had someone call her what she is called in the comics (Thanos called her 'most feared woman in the galaxy' or something similar) but we still have nothing to back that up. The warrior women of BP and Black Widow in any of her outings kicked more ass than Gamora in 3 movies combined. And she went out kicking and screaming instead of like a warrior. Urgh. I would have loved to see her finally let lose to see what she can do, like be in Wakanda and slash Outriders left and right. Or go 1 on 1 against her Black Order siblings. Anything to back up that claim. But nope, she went out like she came into the MCU...weak.

True, she's basically been the straight-man..er, woman of the GotG series. This was her time to shine.

Yeah, was a very emotional cry when it looked like she'd taken him out on Knowhere.

How on earth did she die from a fall when she landed on her feet in GOTG2 falling from an even greater height?

^Uh, she didn't land on her feet.
