Alright, since Drak's got a lot on his plate right now I'll say something and then *hopefully* MB will chime in later. ^_^
As Drak's already listed he has a ton of things to do on his plate, as far as MB and I are concerned neither of us had any idea as to our 'position' in this till we each got a PM asking for our approval for an RPG. That's when we realized there needed to be some sort of organized chaos.
Hence the 'approval' plan, it's still in planning stages however this last week it's fleshed itself out very quickly and easily.
It's fairly simple, the RPG community is it's own almost self-governing community within Hype. We've had flame wars within our threads and yet we've always been left to ourselves to figure it out, without Mod's or Admin's reacting as they normally would.
Given this the general idea is simple. Taking the 'acceptance' plan each RPG has for player approval we expanded upon it.
Each person interested in creating an RPG will fill out an 'RPG application' which will then be submitted to the 'board' for 'review' and approval.
The 'Board' or 'Panel', as we call it, will be a quarterly rotation of 7 GM's, AGM's and regular players already within the RPG community.
Since organizing 7 people is hard only 5 need to cast a 'vote', majority wins as too if the RPG is a go or no-go.
While this sounds harsh and a bit confining, it cuts down Drakon's job considerably and helps MB and I as well as the rest of the RPGer's involved in the decision.
The application proves to us that the RPG is well thought out and allows for longevity in some way.
We, or rather I understand where you're coming from..but since we have no mod powers and Drakon has a larger job than just being a mod, it's easier if we sort out any issues before the RPG's start since we can't clear deadwood from the forums ourselves.
While this is the general basis we've been working off of for the last few weeks we are in no ways closed to suggestions and compromises. Even now the general idea is being changed.
Perhaps a forum where the person presenting the idea can post a thread with the RPG premise laid out to see how much interest is showed in it? Many Forum RPG's do this and it's a popular idea that would work great.
As for 'shooting down' ideas. I doubt it will happen.
The approval process is more for us to see that the person presenting the idea has thought it through and is committed to following the guidelines of Hype for an RPG.
(i.e. no Porn STar RPG's..which actually would be sort of fun.... o.o
)
