After he said the mysterious tumor discovered was half the size of his brain I called BS. I mean I have heard of strange medical cases but that is a huge thing to miss and Howard wouldnt have been able to post let alone function with a tumor half that size. Interestingly enough Howard always had iffy grammar and I wondered if he was slow. Now I see that he is crazy. Seriously who goes into a thread for months and discusses a film (the Hobbit) then decides to just kill himself on the forum and be reborn anew. Thats some sociopathic behavior if Ive ever seen it. I feel dirty just having posted in the thread.
Don't feel bad about offering sympathy for a sociopath. People like him prey on the emotions of normal people for their own weird kicks. I've encountered scams like that on virtually every large forum I've ever belonged to. This one was less problematic than most because at least he didn't scam anyone out of money.
A couple of years ago a guy joined I forum I was on and soon started telling us about his chronically-ill wife. Over a period of several months he reported that the wife's condition was deteriorating and that he was too poor to pay her medical bills. Kind forum members quickly volunteered to donate money to help him out with bills. Shortly thereafter, he told us that poor Tommie Sue had died and he needed money to pay for her funeral. Again, other members gave generously to help give the poor woman a Christian burial. (I didn't give a cent or much believe his his tales.)
Immediately after collecting several thousand dollars from generous people, the guy promptly disappeared. He did return a couple of months later, though, crowing about how his life had turned around now that he was blessed with a brand new wife and a pickup truck. I might be the only person who wasn't at all surprised by that.
Over the years I've seen fake Iraq War vets scamming people, the old "gee I had an accident" scam, "My kid has special needs," "I suffer from _____ and have no insurance," etc. One troll faked her own death as the ultimate act of trolling. Criminals and the deranged have been doing this stuff forever; the Internet has just given them a new place to ply their trade.
Ironically, I responded sympathetically to that guy because a dear friend whom I met over the Internet is in hospice close to death right now. She's an extremely sweet person who has valiantly fought a losing battle with health problems for the last few years. I know that she is real and really suffering because a mutual friend whom I've actually met went to take her gifts a couple of weeks ago. Real-life tragedies are what makes scams like this so reprehensible.
