Are there cgi villains that are actually good?

As far as good ones go, I’d go with Gollum (still #1), the cave trolls, the fell beasts, Smaug, Koba, Ultron, Cloverfield and Tarkin, though I assume that he wasn’t all CGI; just the head? So I’m not sure if he counts. Davy Jones was good but I hate those movies so it’s hard for me to give him a positive rating.

Hopefully Thanos will be great; he certainly looks amazing.

Among the worst would be that one-handed orc in the Hobbit movies, the devil character in Spawn (Mulbulga or something), Abomination, the beasts in The Great Wall, Doomsday, and Steppenwolf. Those last two would probably be the worst on account of how much time and money was spent on those movies.

And oh yeah... the CGI helicopters in Olympus Has Fallen. :D

It's amazing how much Thanos kicked the door down in this category.

It's basically Thanos and Koba....and everyone else.

No matter what you thought of the character, you can't deny that it is marvelous technical work. He looks great.

So does Davy Jones, but neither he nor Snoke are on the same level as Thanos and Koba in terms of truly compelling villains.

Gollum is one of the best sympathetic villains. Still tops.

But yeah, Koba and Thanos aren't too shabby.

Davy Jones and Smaug work pretty damn great. Shere Khan from the live-action Jungle Book was pretty frightening at times.

Davy Jones, Gollum, Shere Khan, Smaug, and Thanos work for me.

Visually, Ultron was great, and I dug Spader. Just wish there was more to him than what we got.

Also, the movie is super cheesy but aged better than I thought it would, I always loved the grey werewolf in Van Helsing. Minor villain character, but loved the design and intensity.

Dormammu is pretty underrated in Doctor Strange. Even with the time stone he still couldn’t be defeated.

Very creepy too. Hope they give Galactus a look like this.

(In no spefiic order)

Thanos
Ultron
Smaug
Davy Jones
Also the O.G. CGI Villain T-1000.

There's an argument online that cgi villains like Thanos or steppenwolf don't work because they lack the human element. I mean, if you look at the best ones like magneto, joker and Hela they're all more human based.

Can you think of any good cgi villains? I suppose King Kong/Godzilla counts but let's keep it as the main villain (so not the goon or fighting a Sharknado or whatever)

Thanos
Gollum
Koba

The OG T-1000, Thanos and Koba are definitely the standout CGI villains for me.

Isn't it kinda breaking the rules to call the T-1000 a CGI villain? So much of that character is also practical effects and terrific flesh and blood acting. He's as much a CG villain as Doc Oc is in Spider-Man 2.

Yeah, the T-1000 doesn't count as a CGI villain. He's only CGI for maybe 5% of his screentime.
