Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5 - Part 1

Considering how one of the complaints that I kept hearing about Salvation was that it just wasn't the same without Arnold and that his absence really stood out, then I doubt that him merely cameoing would be enough for many people, it'd just be disappointing. He doesn't have to be in the thick of the action all the time, but he needs to be an actual part of the movie.

That was not the main complaints about Salvation. T3 gets as much hate as well. What people did not like about those two films was simply they were not good. Nothing to do with/without Arnold.

More Arnold would not have improved Salvation's story. Terminator 3 had Arnold and he did not save the movie.

The idea that an actor can save a movie is only occasionally right. If the story is bad or the other actors are bad, or the effects (when there are some) are poor, all that can be said is the "savior" actor was the standout of an otherwise bad movie.

Nothing short of a rewrite would have saved Salvation's reputation, and I'm not a harsh critic of the movie. I liked it but I'm not about to defend what they did in it because I know it was badly done.

Let's be real now. Even Christian "I'm the Batman that had a billion dollar movie without 3D to boost the revenue" Bale couldn't save it.

Yea, people were excited about the film going in to Salvation and most knew Arnold wasn't in it really. That movie had other issues. Still better than Terminator 3.

Maybe he's the scientist who takes over Project Skynet after Dr. Dyson is killed in T2. And the computer just happened to choose his likeness for the T-800's design, likely due to his bulk.

And since he's already confirmed for T5, it's the route that makes the most sense.

The most fundamental problem is that Terminator 2 doesn't leave room for a sequel. Maybe a good writer can work around that, but none of the hacks so far have been able to. Terminator 3 was full of blaring plot holes.

He's not "confirmed" he said he wants to do it and they asked him, I think it's far form a "contract signed". That was before they announced it was going to be a reboot, he may very well be "out" now.

If reviews for Short Term 12 are to be believe Larson is one to watch. I haven't seen that film yet so I can't say I agree or disagree with the critics.

After reading that article the Tom Hardy thing sounded like more of a director's wish than anything concrete.

You really can't replace Linda Hamilton. I know it's nostalgia talking, but some chicks just have it. Lena was able to do a decent job.

I thought Lena was a mediocre Sarah Conner and didn't even begin to touch Hamilton's performance in T1 or T2.

I doubt that. Mainly because they say Kyle will be in this, to father John....this sounds like a reboot, and I doubt they are going to CGI up Arnold as a T-800 again. And people keep regarding it as the "fifth" film when even the PR says it's a reboot.

I think there must be some confusion, I want to know more of what's going on. Because half of that article reads as if this is a reboot, and some of it does not.

I think it's going to be a "soft reboot", which is to say it will reboot the franchise without ignoring what came before, and not a total reboot (starting a whole new franchise).

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. I have a feeling it'll be something of an Elseworld iteration of the 1st film.

Along the lines of John Connor coming along with Kyle Reese and an aged reprogrammed Termintor model (Arnold) trying to battle Skynets next (that's where the soft canon remains) attack on the Connors is.
