Oh good im not the only one thats " meh " about this casting , im sorry but it has thrown me right off.Ive seen him in Jack reacher and that pos die hard 5 he was "meh". Out of all the films im montiring this one is all over the place at the moment and is heading in B movie range. SMH Terminator doesn't deserve this sub par casting.

I think the collective thing that nobody wants to mention, and it's at a subconscious level, is that folks don't like the way he looks. He looks like a generic meathead.

Of course, this is not fair, it's something he can't change. And I've changed my views on Bradley Cooper, in whom I didn't like because he looked like a *****e, but in recent times..has changed my perception on him.

LOL this , i know he can't help it but seriously i was caught off guard by this decision i guess in time it will sink in (problay not) I will wait until i see some footage. You gave Bradley a chance ... fair play man fair ****ing play because i can't stand him, heard he was good in America Hustle though.

I'm not denying that I personally do not feel his look for this particular role. I'm going to give him a shot though because the performance is the most important thing to me. Still it is weird that this isn't a full reboot and they cast someone with a completely different look and feel from MB.

Everyone here who pays attention to my posts already know about my complete dislike of how different Stahl's version of Connor was from Furlong's in T2. God I ****ing hated the portrayal of John Connor T3. I'm fine with recasts but I don't like when the actor's are playing completely different characters 9 times out of 10, especially if that new version isn't as good as the original. I'm not a fan of MB as an actor but I liked what the Kyle Reese character was and what he represented. Jai Courtney does not look like he can play even a twisted version of that Kyle Reese.

This may still be Arnold aside a full reboot.Plus If Arnold is protecting Sarah Connor where does that leave Kyle Reese In film. His role may laregly be not as protecter but simply as love intrest to Sarah Connor.

So because he doesn't look the role we should ignore that? This is tricky because we already know what Reese looks like. He's not a generic meathead action hero guy like that. Since this movie is not an out and out remake it loses something when you completely recast a character with a different face. That's like taking Spider-Man and turning him into someone with the physique of Dwayne Johnson. Should we say Dwayne Johnson can't help what he looks like so we should wait and see him in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man?

If the person doesn't look the role for which they are cast then no amount of ignoring their appearance is going to help. It's still going to be a miscasting.

It can't be a full reboot with Arnold in it. Things just don't work that way.

And don't bring up Judi Dench in James Bond, James Bond films are a different story and have always had a loosy goosy continuity.

To me, its a miscast unless this dude can blow me away with his performance.

I think the Ellisons wanted to honor the Cameron movies but not doing a real, hard reboot. With Arnold back, I'm still think it's in the 'semi-reboot' in a different reality.

I have no idea what to call the Terminator movie. It's somewhere between all the re-boot/make and sequel/prequel terms.

True to an extent. Not gonna hold "Good Day To Die In The Cinema" against the guy cause it's not like he was responsible for that train wreck. Haven't seen him in anything else so it's hard to judge his acting talent. His look is off-putting though, not just because he's playing a familiar character and looks nothing like him, but also because he bears a pretty strong resemblance to another character in the franchise.

I've read a lot of comments saying this film should be a straight TS sequel, and I agree, which is ironic because I thought it was utterly terrible. Thing is though, it would be incredibly easy to carry on from that point with a new story, bringing Bale and Yelchin back, and making the aesthetic more in line with the future we waned to see.

This! I 100% agree with this to the full extent, if generic looking meathead Kyle Reese is what we're getting then I don't want to support this film, I haven't hated a casting decision in a long time but this guy is just wrong for the role IMO.

I would say 90% of this board is against this casting .

I could see Jai Courtney if they were recasting Marcus Wright but not Kyle Reese.

Well, I am a huge Terminator fan, and Kyle Reese was worshipped by me as a kid, I actually wanted to change my name to Kyle Reese when I was a kid I loved him that much.

I still love the character having grown, but obviously dont want to change my name anymore :cwink:.

As for this casting, I dont think its too bad personally, Courtney did the best he could in DH5 (he was actually one of the better things in the movie for me) and he was pretty good in Jack Reacher too IMO.

With a role like this I just hope he embraces it and gives the best performance he can. I dont think its as bad a casting as people are making out. Michael Biehn again I loved as a kid, and people here are saying he was just a normal guy as Reese, but he wasnt, he was a soldier who had survived years of war against a better equipped enemy, he was a warrior and a survivor, so for me thats all Courtney needs to portray.

I really liked Courtney in Spartacus and Jack Reacher, so I hope he does well in this. I think he's much better than people say he is, and certainly better than Sam Worthington, whom everyone seems determined to compare him to.

Nuke the franchise. ;)

New Reese could be good, could be bad. Difficult to say much more without knowing anything else about the movie.

I would rarely compare any actor to Mr. Worthington. Like I said if he's good in the role I'll get over it but I just flat out do not like his look for the role. I'm just super bothered by it because he looks like a bruiser and that was never the Kyle Reese character. Yes MB's Kyle Reese was a soldier but he wasn't some big bulky guy who looked like he could easily kick a Terminator's ass.

See everyone is whining about the SvB casting but this is the casting decision that just bothers me. This just feels like a Nick Stahl as John Connor level mistake, I'm sorta baffled. Even if this were a 100% reboot I still wouldn't be in love with this decision but I like it even less with this soft Star Trek type reboot they are apparently doing. Maybe I'll soften my stance in a few days like I do most of the time but right now no, just no.

They had Holbrook right there, spitting image of the original Kyle Reese, and they go with Courtney? I suspect they're just trying to make this dude happen, if you know what I mean, as opposed to going for the better choice. Spartacus work was good, but he don't fit this role. Reese is supposed to be an underdog looking gangly reluctant hero. He looks too much like a strapping hero.

Basically not some big muscled mother****er. He's thin, that's all you need. :o

Well that, I'll give you.

In essence I get it's a reboot but Kyle Reese should not look like he can hold his own in a fight.
