Arnold Schwarzenegger Returning For The Legend of Conan

First of all, I was going by a picture I had seen of Arnold on vacation at the beach with his family. He was wearing a speedo, and all of his muscles had turned to flab. And the older you get, the harder it is to rebuild lost muscle tone.

Second, I'm not saying he hasn't returned to the gym since leaving office, but he wouldn't have to try and rebuild some semblance of his old physique had he maintained his exercise routine while he was in office, for fitness reasons if nothing else. Even if he had kept up with his exercise routine while in office, he wouldn't be in as good of shape as he was pre-office. Age catches up to everyone physically, no matter how physically fit they are. Just look at all the wrestlers who continued performing well past their prime like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Terry Funk. All look great for men their age, or men half their age, but none are in the shape they were in 30 years ago.

I'm just gonna have to wait and see I suppose.
You basically just agreed with my post but with a much longer than needed explanation. ;)

If he is playing an older 'King' Conan ... he doesn't need to be in great shape. He just needs to look in basic shape.

With 'Legend of Conan' I would image he's going to wear armor anyway. A) Because he's a king and makes him more regal and B.) So he doesn't have to be shirtless.

That's a good point. However Conan is quite the womanizer. If they're planning on adding any scenes like Conan/Witch and/or Conan/Valeria from the first movie, he'll need to tone up his torso as much as possible.

You know what I mean. He'll wear clothed vest for some casual lady time. His arms will be bare though.

He might not need to be in 'great' shape, but he should be at least in 'good' shape. But while Arnold was in office, the only shape he was in was 'round'. And at his age, recovering from that is going to be far more difficult than had he attempted to maintain an athletic physique during that time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Justin Lin got this in the bag..

I'm sure his buddy Sly has a thing or two up his sleeve to help him bounce back. And which he has remarkably well, when you look at the recent photos of him.

He does look somewhat funny to me because his legs are still long but his upper body has compressed considerably.

It's amazing how in 2013 people still have no faith what movie magic, as well as advanced gym programs can do for the purposes of a 2 hour film.

Having said that, the FF writers are not exactly Milius, are they?

And for those who said Paul Verhoeven... I salute you.

Exactly what I was saying, videos have surfaced for a while now showing Arnold's current routine which is mostly what he used to do back in the day except now only heavy enough for an old man to handle.

This man in a nutshell created fitness, and wrote the encyclopedia of bodybuilding I don't think he has to ask anyone else in the world about any "training programs".

not from me

That looks perfect to me, and probably close to what we might get.

Arnold is in a very bad situation. his muscles can get very strong in 1 year. but his joints couldnt take it. so he is always training with smaller weights that he could use. so progress is slow. but the guy is 65 :woot:

I am a fitness and bodybuilding enthusiast and I pray I look half that good at 66.

I mean lets face it no ones looked as good as Arnold did in his prime, no one.

its crazy how asthetic his body was. and he was from a time when they knew ''less is more''. today bodybuilders dont know when is enough. today they have 5% bodyfat and they look sick.

the biggest suprise for me was when i found out years ago that Arnold started as a powerlifter. he got big by being very strong. so in his first movies he was not only bodybuilder big, he was strong like his characters hahahaha ;):)

Did you ever hear that when he first started lifting he would post workout drink a whole picture of beer for his carb intake? Crazy stuff

Yeah, I heard that story too. My post workout meal does feature beer too because of Arnold. Though I'm more of a Reg Park follower.

didnt Reg Park train Arnold? everything is connected :)

They trained together, Arn was already winning titles long before. Reg's training is closer related to HIT (like another hero of mine Mike Mentzer) and made him look naturally thicker than Arnold. Check out both their stomach vac to see the difference, Reg looked big no matter what.

To be fair Arnold was on a hell of a lot other things than beer back in his bodybuilding days.

Reg Park was one of Arnold's idols and they trained together then Arnold beat him in 1970 in competition that was the real start to Arnold's reign as the world's best bodybuilder.

I'm talking about when he first started in the 60's not when steroids became relevant in the 70's.

He was roiding since his teen years in the 60's. This is him at 19 if you can believe it.

I'm not singling arnold out because everyone in bodybuilding took steroids at the time (and still do among other things) and he did put in a lot of hard work no doubt.

It's just that some people are a bit naive and get disappointed when the results they are trying to achieve naturally don't come anywhere near to some of these body builder types. Not to mention he did appear to pay the price for his roid use later in his life with his heart troubles, which is why he's probably staying natural at this point in his life unlike his buddy stallone.
