Anyone have any info on this? It'll be a few days at least till I pick up my copy and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is curious. I'm kind of surprised someone hasn't started a thread on it yet.

Peter and Iron Man duke it out on the street, with Tony finally turning on the suit failsafe and chastising Peter while doing so, however in a rare feet of modern Spidey outsmarting somebody, Peter reveals he knew about the failsafe, and reactivates the suit.

*Civil War 5-6*

Peter returns to midtown high, where his family has been holed up. After a discussion with MJ and May in which his alligance to the Secret Avengers is reavled, Peter sits in the schoolyard courtyard has a "talk "with a teenaged version of himself. Later the Parkers, get a room in a sleezy motel, with Peter washing his red and blues, and preparing to go out again. He interupts a live News feed, and denounces registration to everyone watching. Iron Hitler, seeing this, tells his surrounding cape killers, to bring him in

Sounds interesting, I like how he [blackout]knew about the failsafe. I'm a bit disappointed though, sounds like he wasn't fighting a ton of A-list villains before being taken down by the Jester and Jack-O-Lantern.[/blackout]

Aloha,
I enjoy being right.Fifth page of #536[BLACKOUT]Tony Stark tells Peter " I'm a technocrat Peter, what kind of techie would I be if I didn't build in safeguards so that this suit couldn't be used against me? Peter responds with "what kind of techie would I be if I didn't figure you built in an over ride?[/BLACKOUT]
Won't discuss anymore until more people read the book.

crap, looks like i was right as well cause it doesn't sound like peter kicked any a$$ :whatever:

The only thing I didnt get about this issue (cos otherwise I thought it was exceedingly well done, except I cant figure out how they're gonna put the genie back in the bottle) was why he has MJ and himself hiding out in a motel and being on the run... This might be addressed in Civil War #6, which of course i havent seen. But I saw no reason why they can't stay with the other Anti-Reg heroes in their safe house. Better beds, food etc - and more secret and impossible to find than a motel.

This issue was nice, but vexing. Better than Civil War #5, by a longshot.

So let's see if I understood the breakdown:

Civil War 5: Iron Spidey (IS) and Iron Man (IM) are arguing in the hallway, right after IM blew through the wall and knocked IS over. They talk, IS attacks IM, tries to escape, and is blown through the window. IS escapes to the sewer.

Amazing: IS is blown through the window after IM blew through the wall, they fight, IS gains the upper hand and escapes to the sewer.

Civil War: IS is in the sewer, where he encounters villains from the Thunderbolts, whereupon he receives his ass. He is rescued by the Punisher and brought to the Anti-Registration's bunker for medical attention.

Amazing: IS escapes the sewer and returns to Aunt May and MJ. They go from place to place, finding a suitable hiding spot in a Motel 7. Aunt May gives Pete his original costume. He dons it, goes out, and crashes a TV station's news report. He bashes the Registration Act and asks IM to bring it on. On the last page, IM accepts the invitation, albeit quietly and to himself, as he's watching Spidey on television, along with everyone else.

So where, exactly, do these fit in with each other?

Pretty much thought it was a nothing issue, most of this had already been played out by anyone with some small ability to deduce things the moment the concept was put forth. Namely the suit, revealing identity and the whole being wrong stuff. I think the worse thing is JMS was overly trying to be a writer. In that he seemed to overthink things and make it all seem rather conceited as well as convoluted for a story that requires a 5 year old mind to understand anyway. Also, it has now been made clear that May and MJ know sod all about what it takes to be a superhero and that Peter is clearly the more experienced in these matters. After admitting this to Peter, May again makes the clearly wrong decision for Peter by saying "Yes, make me a target because I got you in this mess in the first place". Hello? Peter needs a spine implant STAT. I wonder if this stupid decision comes back at Peter down the line too...

My opinion isn't very objective though as I hate everything about this setup and payoff. I really don't like Marvel's Spider-Man, in fact I hate him. He is the many things I loathe about humanity and the comics genre so I don't think I can call myself a Spider-Man fan anymore. Maybe this was the endgame, but I really could care less if Spidey was killed off. So apathetic to him now. Done.

The Bottom line is that we're clearly not getting any kind of redemption for Spider-man.
This thread was about Marvel's mistreatment and abuse of SM lately. Some held out hope that somehoe Spidey would be redeemed by kicking some serious ass.
I seriously doubted that.
And Now that has been confirmed.
Spidey is still the weak, low level, needs to be rescued by people far less powerfull, chump they made him out to be.
my question is do you get our frustration now?

AFTER the scene where pete escapes into the sewer...the whole midtown high thing...that scene is actually AFTER the events of CW 5 and 6. It's a time span issue. Seemed to flow quite nicely, i thought- especially the beginning.:yay:

I'm not following these complaints, I've gotta get the issue. My bookstore didn't receive the order this week (ticked).

Wait it out and see. I get the impression something big may go down later. Without writing the story yourself there's no way to predict when (and if) you'll get the 'gratification scenes.'

The part I find annoying for some reason is May constantly giving Peter costumes. What, is she Betty Crocker with a sewing machine now? It's getting too repetitious. When would she have time to make a costume??? It's dumb.

And what happened to her 'style?' All of a sudden she's back to the stereotypical 'old woman' clothes and 'hair in a bun' after at least looking real in FNS.

Crap, I gotta get this issue. :cmad:

Sheesh, how many times does spidey have to 'connect with his past' by hanging with a teen nerd? It's so overdone.

It sounds so lame on paper, but it's actually very well done in the issue. VERY good issue. The one the fans want.

She didn't "make" the costume...

She clearly states in the issue that she grabbed it from Peter's closet before leaving Stark Towers.

:yay:

I was under the impression he was having a discussion with a ghostly 16 year old version of himself...

If you really think Peter's a weaker character for taking support and strength from family, you're entitled to that.

The fact that he's not Batman-style "I do everything my way, alone, and nobody can say a thing to make me wonder if I'm wrong because I never am" makes him that "everyman" hero that has put him as one of the most recognizable and most popular heroes worldwide.

It's the family interaction that helps define the character and makes Spider-man who he is. I really enjoy the "talks" he has with Aunt May and MJ. I just wish that writers would stop beating us over the head that he loves MJ and that she's the best thing that has happen to him. We get it already ready no need to keep shouting at us every issue as if we can't see they are in love. It's always better to "show it" I feel instead of constantly "saying it". It's as if Marvel is trying to convince itself at times I think.

Thus far the greatest MJ/May moment has to be Aunt May taking down Chameleon by herself. :)
