Comics Asm #536

If you really think Peter's a weaker character for taking support and strength from family, you're entitled to that.

The fact that he's not Batman-style "I do everything my way, alone, and nobody can say a thing to make me wonder if I'm wrong because I never am" makes him that "everyman" hero that has put him as one of the most recognizable and most popular heroes worldwide.

 that's not what I was talking about. Read my post again to see what makes peter weaker IMO,.

Aloha,
I enjoy being right.Fifth page of #536[BLACKOUT]Tony Stark tells Peter " I'm a technocrat Peter, what kind of techie would I be if I didn't build in safeguards so that this suit couldn't be used against me? Peter responds with "what kind of techie would I be if I didn't figure you built in an over ride?[/BLACKOUT]
Won't discuss anymore until more people read the book.
Spidey rules

Me too! Bit disappointed there wasn't more of a rumble between Iron Man and Spidey, but i'm happy with the fact that at least Spidey actually finally lived up to his smarts for a change!

I agree about the fact that Spidey had figured a contingency with the fail-safe!! :spidey: Very nice.....

But I'm confused.......In Civil War, Iron Man doesn't go after Spidey. But in ASM 536, he does??????????

The way I see it, CW #5 just skipped over that whole beginning to ASM #536. In CW #5, Maria Hill tells Stark not to go after Spidey just before sicking the New Thunderbolts on him. Presumably, Stark ignores this "order" and goes after him anyway, where the tussle in ASM #536 ensues. Then he escapes into the sewer, which is briefly touched upon in ASM and gone into more depth in CW.

Kind of bogus that you need to pick up two issues for the whole story there, but I guess that's just the way it is these days. :(

Uh huh. It's all MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!

Read the issue, and I think it ties-in pretty well.

All because tony stark wants to play hero for once..........really maybe tony should like have better security with his damn suits!

That's true. But it's also probably because they need civil War and the ASM arc to both work as individual stories. The fight featured in ASM really would've been pretty pointless if it were it Civil War #5, but since its in ASM, it works quite well in the story talking place.

It's about freaking time Peter beat the **** out of Tony .

A little short but that's the Spidey we know and love. Kicking ass.

The only thing I didnt get about this issue (cos otherwise I thought it was exceedingly well done, except I cant figure out how they're gonna put the genie back in the bottle) was why he has MJ and himself hiding out in a motel and being on the run... This might be addressed in Civil War #6, which of course i havent seen. But I saw no reason why they can't stay with the other Anti-Reg heroes in their safe house. Better beds, food etc - and more secret and impossible to find than a motel.

He may not be welcomed with the anit-registration crew, that's the conclusion that I'm going to come to for now until we see Civil War # 6. As I said threads over the months leading up to this...it's a high possibility that Spider-Man is going to be the loner through this Civil War thing from now on. Not for the registration act anymore but shunned by his fellow anti-registration crew. Definitely Spider-Man-like right there.

ASM # 536 was pretty good. I wish the fight between him and Iron Man were a bit more involved. And with the added insight of Punisher War Journal, which I read before ASM # 536, definitely helps put things into perspective as to how Spide got taken down by Jack O Lantern and Jester.

Ron Garney's artwork was a little better in the issue as well, but I still miss Romita Jr. in the worst way and can't WAIT to see him back on Spidey.

I'm sorry but this falls WAYYYYY short of the ass kicking I wanted to happen. this is far from an ass kicking.
It's a sucker punch then run away from the big bad Iron man.
It's crap IMO

What did you want him to do? Rip him out of the Iron Man suit, cut off his penis, and then stuff it down his throat?

It seemed to me (from reading #536) that Spidey had been out there actively fighting the Registration (sometime after CW #5, presumably after or concurrently with CW #6).

Mary Jane says something to Peter like, "The only way you'd be breaking the law is if you went out of your way to fight Tony and the whole Registration thing...if you tried to help the other heroes who are refusing to register."

There's a beat, and Peter doesn't say anything. MJ replies: "You've already joined up, haven't you? I knew you would, just the way I knew you'd come here. To where it all started for you."

Peter: "I didn't bust us out of there so I could sit on the sidelines, MJ."

I suppose it's possible that the Anti-Reg group shuns him and he helps them anyway. I guess we'll have to wait for CW #6 to see, eh?

I dunno - after having a bit of a think about it, seems that Cap needs all the help he can get and tried to get Peter to rethink his position cos he knew where Peter's heart really was and that it was really only loyalty to Tony that kept him on that side. I'm thinking he will welcome him, but Peter feels if the anti reg side was found (as they have been a couple times now), an all out brawl of supers in a confined space, with his wife and aunt in the middle of the room trying to dodge repulsor beams and ricochetting shields... best to have SHIELD find Peter when its just him, MJ and May in a motel I guess. He can run and have SHIELD chase him so MJ and May arent caught in the crossfire.

Remember, Spidey's also being chased by S.H.E.I.L.D units. How long would this 'ass kicking' take? Spidey's now a hunted man...he can't risk it.

It's too dangerous to stop and take the time for ass kicking.

You guys have to stop making excuses for Marvel. How many comics have you read? How many movies have you seen, where a hero is facing incredible odds, yet the action, the fighting delivers.
Come on people, after all this build up between IM and SM are you really telling me this is the best they could do?
That this is an exciting fight?
One punch? and a sucker punch at that?
read this thread again. See the anticipation. then tell me if this crap delivers.
It never ceases to amaze me the lengths some people will go through, the lies they will tell themselves, just to follow their leaders.

What else could Spider-man really have done though?

I thought that moment devilvered bigtime. Especially with Peter finally using his smarts again to reprogram the suit.

Seriously though, Spidey just needed to get the hell out of there and rethink his entire strategy. This is a huge decision he just made. Slugging it out with Tony was probably the last thing on his mind at that moment.

Well, actually, it was two punches if you count CW#5. And both times IM went flying. The last time he knocked one of his systems off-line. He also demonstrated that IM was unable to hit him with a repulsar blast. I'm pretty statisfied as a Spiderman fan.
