I'd say regressing Peter 20 years is a problem that needs fixed. He had grown up over 20 years into an adult with adult responsibilities, created a career, was moving forward in the superhero scene, etc. Now he's back to the swingin' spidey taking pictures etc. It's like the past 20 years never happened. Complete character regression from what I can see, and you don't see a problem here?

What career had Peter created before OMD? The teaching job? JMS introduced that in his second issue and barely touched it for the remainder of his run... Peter David did more with it in FNSM... and even at the begining of BND, he tries to get a teaching job but because of all the screw ups with his last position, he's NOT RELIABLE as a teacher, and we've seen this before when Peter attempts to make something with his work, like the scientist job he got when Mackie did the reboot... it never pans out because his being Spider-Man gets in the way...

And I don't see a character regression... I see a character continuation... but because of the way BND began, which was poorly executed by Marvel, in my opinion... people have just jumped on this "the last 20 years never happened and JMS' "cough, cough" brilliant Spidey work never happened and Peter has never matured, etc, etc... ad nauseum" bandwagon... but if a person has looked at ALL the stories since, it's plain to see that this is merely the next step in the life of Peter Parker, with his last 45+ years of experience still intact.

Well you do understand the OMD was a very bitter pill for most fans. It make it really hard to read the current stuff unbiased. Personally I stopped reading after a few months into BND because it wasn't really interesting to me. I felt like OMD undid a ton of character development for Peter, and all BND was doing was reminding me of what as a reader I felt I had lost.

I admit to some bitterness on my part, but it was mostly that I didn'y know if continuity was screwed... now I see that they're making it fit, so I'm cool with it.

johnny blaze did it and no one had an issue with it....and MJ agreed to the deal first...if you want someone to "blame", its the redhead

Hah, wow, you really try to pedal that don't you. It doesn't matter who agreed to it 'first', they both agreed to it, and it was out of character for both of them, no matter which way you spin it

well considering she sacrificed her husband and future child, to save her Husbands aunt, I think she and pre one more day Peter, deserve some slack.

I know the story is out of character but imagine if your dad was killed by something you could have prevented.(Uncle Ben) that inspires you to become a super hero. We all know about Gwen, and Harry and all the crazy things Norman Osborn has done to Peter now we're at civil war. Your mom(Aunt May) is on her death bed, nothing can save her Dr. Strange tells you nothing can save her and you believe it's your fault she's there. You revealed your secret identity, you're being chased by SHIELD. Your life is a wreck. Your mother is going to die, you and your wife are in hiding so you don't get arrested. There is no chance of a normal life for you or your wife and the Mephisto appears and says he can fix everything. You may act a little out character and accept the deal that fixes everything for the only 2 people you have left in the world. I'm not defending OMD it was a poorly constructed story but if you look at the sh**storm that was Peter Parker's life leading up to that story it kinda makes sense. All the poor decisions he made were ruining his loved ones lives and he did sacrifice his marriage but in Spidey's world if he didn't where would he go from there? If they didn't reboot ASM this way it'd be Peter and MJ homeless and on the run from SHIELD and guess what they were doing that leading up to OMD. Did you guys really want see Peter attempt to go to Aunt May's funeral and have SHIELD waiting to arrest him? Even if you don't like the stories now how do you know they'd be better if the marriage was still there? Even if you don't like what happens in a story we are fans. We are not the creative control for these characters. No one was rooting for Gwen to die she did, no one was rooting for Harry to die he did, and we all know no one want Aunt May to die and when they saved her we freaked out. Just take it for what it is it's fiction.

No. You're obviously biased AGAINST an old ASM story (OMD) from over 50 issues ago, it's admittedly made you very closed minded about the stories that followed which were put out by a different editorial and a different creative team.

Have you read one More day? I don't wanna meet the spider-man fan that isn't atleast somewhat bitter about that story. The new stuff has been great though. But atleast Gwen stacy wasn't brought back, like she was allegedlly suppose to. Gwen Stacy being brought back would of made for some great "soap opera" drama in the NEW amazing spider-man. Peter haveing to choose between his returned from the Dead first love, who fathered 2 secret children with the green Goblin [sins of the past]. Mix that up with his retconned ex-wife/ex live in girlfirend Mary Jane Man you guys really would of had days of our lives level drama with that.

You see i agree with you for the most part. Its not the marriage ending that bothered me. I think for me and for some fans, its the way it went down. Instead of Peter and M.J. seperateing or divorceing like mature adults do. Peter who pretty much got himself into the unmasking mess etc, pretty much yet again ****s himself over. Aunt may died already in the 90s, and peter for the most Part dealt with it. Thats what always made Peter parker/spider-man a great character. He had all these problems, and he mad alot of mistakes, but he never had a reset button. He had to deal with his problems like a man, like his uncle ben taught him to. Uncle Bens death made peter become a Hero, Gwens death I think made him realise the value of those that he loved. I was hopeing Aunt Mays death, would of made him finally become a man.

Yeah, the clear majority of fans don't like the idea of Peter making a deal with someone who is the equivalent of the Devil. However, most fans have gotten over the sting of One More Day.

The thing is, marvel had to have anticipated this kind of backlash. They changed Spiderman in a major major way and people werent even asking for the franchise to be fixed. This argument's going to go on for a loooong time.

They did. That's why BND followed OMD with huge-name creators and fan-favorites coming out its metaphorical ears. People who were pissed off by OMD but couldn't turn away from the prospect of McNiven drawing Spider-Man or Slott writing kept buying, and BND seems to have been good enough to keep the sales high. It was all rather shrewd marketing on the part of whichever higher-ups came up with it.
