The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ASM2 the most under ratied CBM ever?

I actually think it is worse than Spider-Man 3, but then again I was a fan of the corny Beatnik Peter parts, and I feel the Green Goblin appearance in this movie is even more tacked on than Venom in Spider-Man 3.

If this movie had had Dane Dehaan take a bite of pie while saying, "So good." I might have given it a pass, but it didn't, so...

It sure was. It was so rushed that, in my opinion, it really diminished the impact of that little moment in the clock tower. I dunno, maybe I'm being too beholden to the comics here (fans should be able to relate, since this is such a perfect adaptation :whatever: ), but I feel like that moment would have meant so much more had it occurred between the two bitterest of enemies. It's astonishing to me how rushed and tacked on so many things were in a such mind-numbingly slow plod of a movie. That's an achievement in and of itself. Hmm...maybe we should be talking about the Oscars. :cwink:

No, because apparently people are seeing an entirely different movie than I did.

The ASM2 I saw is a borderline masterpiece. One of the best superhero movies ever made.

[diplomacy]I guess it was better than ASM1, anyway.[/diplomacy]

Loved the ending stuff(post electro). Beginning was pretty great as well.
Hated the main villains though.

I think it is underatied because it has the worst reviews of any of the spider man movies and ever one is calling it campy even though ever spider man movie has some chesness and this one has the least and ever one is saying the movies story is a mess. The story is pretty simple really it peter and gwens love and relationship and harry trying to find a way to not die what is so messe about that? Spider man charterristics have never been has good has they are in this movie the action is great. Even though spider man 3 I don't think is quite has bad has people say I do see the probems that people see in the movie. This movie I don't see the so called problems that people are talking about.

The first 1/3 of the movie was kind of slow the second 3erd was great and the final 3erd was prefect.

I lucked out and got that version both times I went.

Honestly it depends on who you ask. Some friends I went with thought it was a pretty good movie, the theater I was in looked like they really enjoyed it and I ran into a friend and his kid brother who wore the Webb first Amazing Spider-Man t-shirt before I went into the movie. But then you got some who think it's decent despite some flaws, every one who I seen in my area that I talked about it with really enjoyed the movie for the most part. I do think it got a higher public/general audience reaction than it did critic reaction which is kind of disheartening. Yeah I've seen some people on this forum look in disbelief or give gifs making fun of them or laughing at them for that belief but I've also seen people do the same for the people who hate this movie and the same if they like a certain form of Spider-Man(Raimi, Disney Ultimate Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, etc). I felt in a lot of parts, this movie had heart and soul and felt like Spider-Man to me but that's just me.

A lot of people praise 4 or 5 actors(Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane Dehaan and Sally Fields), despite thinking the villains are rushed and poorly developed and some who think it's the worst Spider-Man movie that ever came to existence and even made them want to destroy all they're Spider-Man paraphernalia. Do I think it should have at least scored a 78 or something on Rotten Tomatoes and not a 54, yes. Personally I think it's underrated. Was it perfect, not really but that doesn't make it a horrible or terrible Spider-Man or superhero movie by any means imo. But honestly at the end of the day if you love this movie or hate this movie, that's you. I don't think anyone probably won't change your mind much but at then of the day does it really matter.

So I'm just going to say I like it, explain why I like it as well as I can and go my merry way.

It's far too early to say whether it's underrated or not. But the reception it's been getting; slammed by the critics, mixed reviews from fans, I think is justified for the quality of the movie we got.

I can't deny it even if I'd like to.

People are not liking this movie...

RT recently has shown me that it is a complete waste of time after I got a movie that is rated 85% by critics. I got this movie based on that high score, that score influence me in a purchase of a movie because I most certainly wouldn't have bought this movie otherwise and thought the movie was an utter PoS. So were RT right? Was I wrong? No, a bunch of reviewers gave their opinion and I disagreed.

I have seen nearly every single CBM made including the likes of Road to Perdition and History of Violence (yet to see Jonah Hex, though). I have also been reading Spider-Man comics since I was 8, including ASM, SSM, WoS-M and Marvel Team up, and despite all of that I thought ASM2 is the best Spider-Man/CBM movie I have seen.

I have been beating myself up over the RT score including watching the movie several times to confirm how I felt. The movie, for me, had every thing I want out of a CBM and a Spider-Man movie and if other individuals thought the movie is rubbish, that is just fine as well. Movie is subjective and what works for one individual wont always work for others.

The past two weeks have shown me that RT, message boards, whatever, matters not one single jot to what you personally thought. Take RT with a pinch of salt, it's just a group of reviewers giving their opinion just like people on this message boards are giving their opinion. No opinion has more weight than another, it's just an opinion.

I think it's a little under-rated.

I think the problem isn't do much the rating as the meaning of the rating.

It's generally rated between a 6 and 10 which means it's okay to perfect.

But anything under a 8 by some is viewed as awful and worst movie ever and other such hyperbole

Great post, I agree

yes finaly some one understand how good this movie is lol. Yeah there are some things that could have been better but I fell like little minore problems people are acting like are big major problems and no movie or game is perect. The way people are nick picking this movie is crazy. If people nicked picked other movies like they do with this one there would be a lot more compliaing about other movies then there is.

the first 1/3 of the movie was like a 7/10 the 2nd 3erd was like a 9/10 and the last 3erd was a 10/10.

I mostly disagree. His action scene felt rushed but overall he was ingrained into the plot, he was introduced and built up over the movie and his motivation made sense (not just I hate Peter because he danced with a girl I had coffee with). His Action scene was the pay-off to his character but while good it was just too quick.

Unlike Venom he'll be back and further developed

I agree with you.

And at least the villains of Spider-Man 3 were introduced properly and I felt like I learned more about them that I did with the villains of TASM2.

Definitely. I didn't love the movie but it was fun. Critics are acting like the entire movie is Batman and Robin part deux. I'm literally defending a movie I didn't really like because the movie wasn't that bad. If this movie would have pulled about 70 -75 with Rotton I wouldn't even care. But it is definitely not that bad.

I think Rotton has a way of creating a mob mentality with movies that kinda catches on to the general public. Critics begin loving The Avengers and it steam rolled into a social event to love the movie. Avengers was great but not THAT great.... dear God, I'm putting down a movie that I love. I got to go.

The only one you could say this about was Rhino.

With Electro we learned about him as Max and with Goblin we learned about his as Harry.

 agreed

I thought its score and reviews were pretty much spot on until it went to America.

I don't think it's as good or as bad as extremists on both sides make it out to be.

And being someone who gives it a 7/10, yes, obviously I think that rating it in the 50s on RT is underrating it. A bit, at least.

But the most "ever"? I don't know. If anything, I think that honor should go to Fantastic Four 2, which I just rewatched the other day and surprised me by how entertaining it was throughout.

I saw the same movie you did.

Co-signed. For all it's flaws SM3 is a better movie than this.
