Ubisoft Assassin's Creed Remake

Honestly, they should've just done this and added a multiplayer mode, instead of Skull and Crossbones (Which is once more suspiciously absent).

My suspicious brain wonders if this is an internal plan to recover losses from Skull and Crossbones, by using that engine and assets to get more value out of it haha

This honestly disappoints me because Black Flag still holds up really well, it doesn't need a remake, the first Assassin's Creed on the other hand could really benefit from a remake because that game aged pretty badly the moment AC2 came out and has only become more and more outdated since.

Skull and Bones is already a younger-dryas level cataclysm that they're going back to remake the actual good game it was designed after.

Incredible.

They should remake the first game, or at least release a remaster.

Its the only game unplayable to PS4/PS5, if I'm not mistaken.

Hmm. I get remaking an exclusive because people might have swapped to a different console this gen and they want to try one of the classics. But this was on all consoles and isn’t that old. Black flag is my fave assassins creed but there’s probably better ideas than this

Ubisoft is basically a mess right now, not just with Assassin's Creed.

Valhalla was so bloated.
It will be 3 years since the last main AC game
Mirage which looks promising was originally a DLC for Valhalla
And of course the numerous AC games in the works including the skippable VR, mobile game

If I were Ubisoft (when it comes to AC) I'd just focus releasing a new main AC game every 2 years featuring locations/time periods they haven't featured primarily. I'm still confused what in the world is Infinity.

I think that'll be why they're doing it. They can probably get away with a graphics overhaul, maybe use the Skull and Crossbones engine, but keep the gameplay intact.

For an AC1 remake, I think it would be a fair bit more intensive to make that more palatable for a modern audience.

Yay, the single most overrated game of the past three decades is getting a remake. Are they actually going to put **** to do in it this time?

Is it super overrated? I feel like everyone treats AC1 like the red headed stepchild. While AC2 is treated like the real start of the series.

Retrospectively, probably not but when the game released originally, if felt like everyone and their grandmother was singing its praises. By the time I got around to playing, I was confused by the reception because to me, it was a fairly obvious tech demo.

Well there are more chances for a Black Flag remake than the first game. But if I have to choose only one for a remake, I'd pick the first game.

Black Flag could use some graphics overhaul, but gameplay-wise, its still great.

I played it on release and I liked it. It was very different from everything else at that point. So even with the repetition, I had a lot of fun with it. I do not remember people treating it like it was Ocarina of Time or other similarly praised games.

"Very different" is a bit of a stretch. A lot of the tech was recycled from the previous gen's PoP trilogy. It's biggest achievement was it's scale and even then was barely anything of note to do. Assassins Creed 2 on the other hand, is one of the most improved sequels of that generation.

Prince of Persia is not the same game as Assassin's Creed. Same tech, doesn't mean the same game.

The thing to do was assassinate people, while seeing the story with Desmond unfold. You did the repetitive side missions to get to the very fun assassinations.

I'm still confused how it's the most "overrated game of all time". Is it simple because people liked it?

And the assassinations suck ass due to poorly implemented stealth mechanics. The concept of "Risk vs Reward" is almost nonexistent in AC 1. The game doesn't adequately punish the player for failure so there's no tension to the stealth or the combat and it doesnt adequately reward the player for performing well either.

I didn't say "of all time", I said of the past three decades which I stand by.

81- PS3, Xbox 360
79- PC

From Metacritic, thats not really high praised and overrated. From a lot of Youtube ranking videos I saw, it isn't highly praised. People comment how the graphics looked great at that time. The gameplay wasn't that well received.

And yet, it became the blueprint for Ubisofts design moving forward.

Furthermore, 81 is entirely too high for what's on offer here. I would rarely it around 60.

I still don't get how it is overrated / highly praised. That score is pretty much similar to what Watch Dogs 1 got in 2014 (a game that isn't highly praised) and Sony wouldn't be happy with their first party games scoring in the 79-81 range...

Yes, it might spun off to a dozen of games, plenty of average games got a sequel. AC1 is hardly one of the most critically acclaimed games in the franchise, let alone in the 2000s and the past 3 decades.

That fact that it became Ubisofts entire design and business model is enough to warrant it being incredibly overrated. Furthermore, you don't have to agree with me.

It was instrumental. It doesnt necessarily mean it is overrated. I don't see the first game popping out in a lot of list of 2007 best games, best games of 2000s, best games for Ps3/X360, best games of the last 3 decades.

AC2 and AC Brotherhood got a much better reception in comparison. Black Flag, Origins and Odyssey too.

You do understand that something doesn't have to be lauded by industry tastemakers to be overrated right? Especially when the person you're engaging with thinks mainstream games "journalism " lacks any semblance of credibility especially in the mid 2000s. That game was everywhere in my gaming circle. I couldn't escape it.
