Atheism: Love it or Leave it? - Part 2

If they saw an image of Muhammad, they would probably think it was supposed to be Osama bin Laden.

I can see why Muslims don't want Muhammad portrayed in general now that I look at that sign. I mean look at it. A red skinned Satan, Saint Nicholos dressed in red and white, and a straight haired white Jesus? Look at how far layman perceptions about these characters has corrupted their image over time.

Yes, evolution is unscientific, everyone knows people were created through magic.

I find this man amusing for a number of reasons. For one thing, he gets into that old circular argument of "God exists because the Bible says so, the Bible is true because God says so." For another, the main part of his argument is something that Paul said about how knowledge of God is programmed into every person. I think that's comparable to what Genesis says about how people are naturally ashamed of their nakedness, and yet when you look at the tribal cultures of very hot, humid regions, those people pretty much live their entire lives naked. Many ascetics of India practice in the nude, and they are held in high regard by the faithful for doing so. Even in our culture, we have nudist colonies and beaches where people go about their business sans clothes. They don't go around blushing and covering up their bits with their hands all the livelong day because they have no reason to. Feeling shame or discomfort over the naked human body is something that people are conditioned to feel. It is not something innate, and neither is this business about God. Frankly, if that were the case, Christians wouldn't have to get into long, drawn out debates with atheists at all, because whatever the Christian says about God would resonate with that god-knowledge that was apparently stamped into our "souls."

If anything, polytheism would seem to be the "innate" belief, as almost every primitive human culture starts out by assigning deities to the sky, earth, sun, underworld and so forth. Since that is the common theme among many cultures, should we assume that multiple gods have programmed us to be this way? Perhaps we should consider the more logical conclusion, that this is merely the way that primitive man tries to explain the things that he can't comprehend.

One big problem that I have with religion is that it encourages an unapologetic irrational way of looking at the world and poor reasoning with other people.

This video asserts that atheists who specifically get into arguments about the God of the bible being immoral must on some level believe God exists. Which is immediately, a ridiculous argument. You can talk about the morality of any number of fictional characters, it doesn't mean that you think they are real.

This is pointed out in very clear points in the comments. The author of the video just won't accept how poor her reasoning is, despite how black and white clear it is.

She also claims that Hitler was an atheist, in the comments. When its pointed out that Hitler made all sorts of public statements about God, she says...

"That's very shoddy reasoning" No!

Hitler though our brother Jews were to with no human value. By killing the Jews, Hitler was helping the strong survive. So, Hitler did not value human existence. this only comes in an atheistic view! because in an atheistic view, we are not special creatures, just one more species in the animal kingdom, and only the stronger species survive. so you see, Hitler's worldview fits perfectly with the atheistic worldview.

sorry friend, that is truth

So many leaps of logic.

Holy crap, even just reading those excerpts is extremely difficult to handle. It kills me because it makes me want to have a billion free hours to spend arguing with such an idiot until she finally wraps her head around some form of normal logic. And it would probably take billions.

Why did they make a children's version of this book? The adult version is already just as sophisticated.

I found the video too laughable to respond to... until I read the comments section...

If aliens showed up at the end of next year having researched out culture and history for the brief 4thousand years we've been collecting it.

If they then claimed and took the form of what we believe to be our deities and went on to tell us what to do. What percentage of the globe would willingly "fall" for it.
"enslave the 'sinners'" and all that jazz.

I think a large part.

This is a really interesting debate provided by NPR: Would The World Be Better Without Religion?

http://www.npr.org/2011/11/21/14247...eligion?ft=3&f=111787346&sc=nl&cc=es-20111127

I don't think the world would be better without religion. It would just be difference...instead of power hungry people using religion to push their goals forward, they would use another scapegoat.

We are always quick to blame something for the travesties of mankind....when really...the real problem with the world is US. People.

Also, the beautiful period of history know as the Renaissance would have never happened. Sure, we'd be slightly more advanced in terms of medicine and such, but I enjoy Renaissance art and the mythology and lore of religions.

That's true...never thought of that.

and actually...Churches were responsible for building a vast majority of the schools and colleges/universities throughout history and continue to contribute to the world in terms of helping those in poverty.

Yes but they also promoted Galen's theories of human physiology, which was incorrect, and made it illegal to teach other methods.

That's true too. Comes down to control. And that's a part of human nature. We want to control things. And the more power we get...the more we want to control.

Yup...they were the Nazi's of their time....only instead of killing anyone who wasn't their race...it was anyone who didn't bow before them.

As a Christian...I actually find this guy offensive :P
^this. I don't like it when Christians attack atheists like this. Yes I believe that you guys are wrong. Am I going to verbally beat you over the head? no, and when people do what that guy did in the video, it's just . Atheists, I may not agree with you. But know that even as a Christian I still respect you :word:.

They made it for the same reason they made the first one... to rake in the money er... to $ave people! :yay:

Are the real kids arms actually that disproportionate to his body?

That or they delusionally believe every word that a four year old undergoing anesthetic and had obviously been through an obvious state of near death experience which scientists know definitely happens when the brain simply doesn't get enough oxygen, thinks it's going to die, and does everything it can to jump start the body's motivation for surviving. Same thing happens to test pilots that loose consciousness during flight training.
